OPI Glitter Off Base Coat Press Release

OPI Glitter Off Base CoatA couple of years ago, you may remember the trend among nailphiles that, to make it easier to remove glitter nail polish in a cinch, many were using PVA glue as a base coat. This meant that you could literally just peel it off, along with any stubborn glitter and forego the scrubbing-your-fingers-raw process.

Well, yesterday when I was on my way home from work, I received a bunch of cool press releases, which I’ll share with you all really soon!

The first one I’d love to tell you about is the OPI Glitter Off Base Coat, which is set to hit stores officially in March.

It promises to leave natural nails free of stains and also to make it easy to remove nail polish in just seconds without the need for a typical polish remover. You just peel the base coat and any polish on top off!

I’m really curious to try this one out, since you know that I have worn my fair share of glitter polishes. If I can avoid spending a long time to remove it, I’m all for it!

Edit: I updated this post to include step-by-step photos of how to use the OPI Glitter Off Base Coat!

Below is the official press release sent to me by PR:

Glitter On, Glitter Off!

OPI Glitter Off Peel-able Base Coat Allows for
Glitter Nail Lacquer Removal in Seconds

OPI Glitter Off Base Coat

Glitter Off by OPI is a new, peel-able base coat that allows for the quick and easy removal of nail lacquer when applied beneath any glitter or dark nail color. Glitter Off provides a base for quick one-step removal and protects natural nails, while simultaneously making nail colors brighter. Glitter Off is designed to leave nails polish-free and stain-free in seconds, revealing a clean nail surface without the use of lacquer remover.

“Women love glitter nail lacquer, which adds a glamorous element to any manicure. However, it can be difficult and frustrating to remove. Now OPI fans can fully embrace the glitter nail trend without the accompanying hassle. Simply brush on one thin layer of Glitter Off to bare nails, wait until it dries clear and then apply as many coats of glitter lacquer as needed to get the desired look,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Co-Founder & Executive VP. “Glitter Off is designed to last for a few days, allowing for glitter shades to be changed frequently or worn just for a special occasion or night out. It’s so easy to use – And when it’s time to remove it, peel!”

To remove, use a cuticle stick to gently push and peel the glitter lacquer off the nail. No nail polish remover is necessary for this final step.

Glitter Off features OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application. Glitter Off will be available March 2014, at Professional Salons and Spas across Canada for $10.95 CAN suggested retail each.

      Hey Chiro!

I bet that OPI has different ingredients so it won’t smell like just regular white school glue and that it’ll be more durable, too. We’ll see! *Fingers crossed*

I’m really really curious about this! Usually peeling anything (even PVA) off my nails leaves them a hot mess, though the scrub tub I’m trying out currently is working ok, as long as I remember to moisturize my cuticles first. I can’t wait to see your review on this!

      Hey Brynn!

I’ve always been curious about those little pots that supposedly can scrub even glitter off your nails, but I’ve never tried any.

Once PR has it in stock and sends it my way, you can bet that I’ll test-drive it with a stubborn (but beautiful) glitter polishes I have! I’ll report the results on here.

This could be really interesting! I haven’t had much success using PVA glue for a peel off base, it doesn’t work for me like it seems to for many nailphiles. Also, even when I do try to use it, the glue takes ages to dry (no matter how thin of a coat i use_, so I’m hoping this will solve the drying issue!

Looking forward to your review of it, if they send it to you 🙂

      Hey Fedoraharp!

Even though it was such a trend to use PVA glue as a base coat, I just never tried it. Not sure why. But now that there’s a legit base coat with the same concept, I am very curious to try it and report the results on this blog. (I’ll also pay close attention to the drying time, since that was an issue you raised.)

Yes, PR said that they’re going to send it to me to try, so you can definitely expect an honest review from me on here. 🙂

I’m really curious. Nail Pattern Boldness already does something like this (Glitter-a-Peel) but I can’t even get 24hrs. of wear time out of my manicure without it chipping or starting to peel on it’s own so I never use it. I’ll definitely be seeing how OPI’s works out because I love the idea of what Nail Pattern Boldness but it just didn’t work for me.

      Hey Camille!

I’m also very curious to see how OPI’s version holds up. I’ve never tried anything like it, so I’ll for sure report if it affects the wear time of a polish in any way.

      Hey Kat!

It’s really exciting, isn’t it? I’ve been hoping that OPI would put something like this out, and now that they have, I can’t wait to test-drive it!

I can’t wait to see what this is like! I’ve used PVA glue and Glitter A-Peel by Nail Pattern Boldness and they both work, but I can’t even get a day of wear when I use them. Hopefully this will be something new and longer lasting!

      Hey Laura!

Hmm, I also hope that this OPI base coat won’t cut down the wear time of a manicure. I’ll definitely give it a spin and report the results on here later!

I want that cuticle pusher! lol. this is awesome, I’ve been using Elmer’s Glue (popular school glue here in the states), but being that I live in Florida it almost never fully dries (curse you humidity!), so it always ends up with squished polish

I’ve used a pva/school glue base fairly successfully. two thin coats dries more quickly than one think one and makes it pretty easy to peel off. if I make sure to get my top coat at least a smidge past the edge of the polish to bare nail, I can get two days out of a mani before nails start to pop up or off.

dying to see the OPI! I hope it’s not just disguised glue and lasts longer!

How cool is that? I wonder if it’s really durable. Seems like if an cuticle pusher can move the polish off the nail, wouldn’t the polish lift off if you accidently bumped into something? Can’t wait to see a review of this with “real life use”.

      Hey Michelle!

If the anti-stain claim holds true, that’ll be amazing, and I’ll want to wear it under all my dark blues and reds! (I’ll definitely put it to the test with glitters and staining polishes!

      Hey Sarah!

I also have my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed that it’ll work like magic! 😉 I love wearing glitter, but when it comes time to remove it, I don’t really like spending so long just to get it off. I hope this is the solution we’ve all been looking for!
