OPI Love. Angel. Music. Baby. Swatches & Review

OPI Love Angel Music Baby Swatches & ReviewOPI Love. Angel. Music. Baby. is a champagne nail polish that’s part of the highly anticipated OPI Gwen Stefani Collection that’s set to be officially released in January 2014.

It’s right around the corner!

Aside from being such a classy colour, what I like about it is the unique satin finish, which I can best describe as frosted glass.

It’s designed to be worn without a top coat, and I think that if you slick a shiny top coat over this, it completely defeats the purpose.

I think that even if you’re not yet on the textured trend, a satin finish like this can ease you into it because it’s halfway between a textured polish and a shiny one.

Key Notes

OPI Love. Angel. Music. Baby. Review

Colour

This is definitely how to wear a metallic in a classy way. It’s flashy, but there’s a simultaneously a subtlety about it that I appreciate.

Unlike some loud golds, this one is paler in comparison. I would call this more of a champagne.

Golds and champagne hues can be tricky to pull off, but once you find the one with the right saturation and undertone, it’s pure love!

While I really enjoyed wearing this polish, I felt like the more vivid golds tend to look best on my skin tone. That being said, I won’t let that prevent me from wearing this shade again. (Perhaps a little stamping on top?)

Finish

Love. Angel. Music. Baby. by OPI has a satin finish, which is officially described as being semi-matte.

The best way for me to explain the finish and how it feels when you glide your finger along the nail is that of frosted glass (like sea glass). It’s smooth, luxurious, and far from the gritty, textured polish predecessors.

I can’t see this finish snagging on delicate fabrics, so for those who were wary of textured polishes before, you may want to give this one a try.

It also was very easy to remove. I didn’t feel a need to scrub my fingers raw to get it off.

Application & Formula

I loved the formula because it was very pigmented. Even with a single coat, I got extremely good coverage, and the polish went on evenly.

It’s pretty interesting to watch it dry. (Yes, I sometimes enjoy watching ‘paint’ dry!) 😉

At first, it starts off wet (obviously), but then you can see it dry down. The transition is a bit subtle (because of the slightly speckled finish). It’s neat because you can almost visibly see when your manicure is cured! (I could almost picture it saying in a high-pitched, squeaky voice, “I’m done now!” Or am I just weird? Yeah, I am.)

I was pleased to see that Love. Angel. Music. Baby. by OPI dried quickly. So, even though I’m really attached to my bottle of Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, I didn’t miss it with this polish.

Pros

  • Classy champagne
  • Satin finish
  • Dries quickly
  • You can visibly see the polish dry down to the satin finish, which is fun
  • Semi-matte texture that feels like frosted glass

Cons

  • It has a satin finish, so those who aren’t into textures may not like it.

Final Verdict: 8/10

I’m a fan of textured polishes – that’s no secret. So the more variety I have to choose from with the finish and the shades, the happier I am.

I think this polish is a great way for even traditionalists to explore the textured trend in a sophisticated way, and I encourage everyone to give it a shot. Sometimes you never know how much you may like something until you try it. (Actually, before I tried OPI Get Your Number, I thought that I would hate texture on my nails. Boy was I ever wrong!)

Do you like the gritty textured polishes or the satin finishes best? Do you reach for classy or flashy polishes more often? Do you have any nail resolutions for 2014?

Gorgeous… although they should have released this a bit earlier!
I think it would make a very elegant New Years Eve manicure 🙂

I love the occasional bold color but I usually go for the classy ones.
The textured polishes have conquered my heart by storm and I have all OPI Liquid Sands and Zoya PixieDusts… and any other brand I can get my greedy little hands on 😉
If anything it makes for a great meeting opener as by now my collegues tend to comment on my polish choice for the day first before starting with the actual agenda and they can’t seem to get over the textured ones: “Doesn’t it feel weird?”, “Don’t you get caught on everything?”, “You forgot to put the glossy stuff on… oh, it is gritty so you did that on purpose, eh?” 😀

And as this year is almost done: Happy New Year and all the best to you and your loved ones 🙂

      Hey Joyce!

You’re right – it would totally make a wonderful New Year’s Eve manicure! Very glam, yet trendy, too.

Wow, that’s amazing you have all the OPI Liquid Sands and Zoya PixieDusts. I’d be drooling all over your bottles if I saw them. (Better bring a cloth with me to wipe it.) 😉

Happy New Year to you, too! I hope that 2014 treats you and your loved ones well with plenty of laughter, good health, and happiness!

    Hey Mary!
I’m just making my wish-list among the polishes of this collection and this one is on the top of it! Maybe I could pass on some already-seen hues, such as Hey baby! or I sing in colour, but not on this one!
    Great swatches, as usual!
This will be my last comment in 2013, so I wish you a very Happy New Year, hoping it will be full of delightful novelties for you!
    Cheers!

      Hey Icequeen81!

It’s not gritty at all. Are you sure you wouldn’t like it? It’s like frosted glass – very interesting and chic!

How gorgeous is this? Normally, I head straight for the flashy-sparklies, but this looks so classy that I’ve asked my seller to reserve one for me. I love that it doesn’t have that overly warm tone that happens so often with golds.

Okay, confession time…I have tons of sand polishes, but the texture drives me nuts. I can’t stop touching it and it makes me want to reach for an emery board. I usually settle for slicking them down all smooth and shiny with topcoat. I do plan on getting this one, though. You could be right about the transition thing.

No New Year’s Resolutions for me…unless you count buying more polish. 😛

      Hey Karen!

Haha, you know what? I’m just the opposite! When I wear the traditionally gritty textured polishes, I can’t stop touching it, but I LOVE how they feel. In fact, I love them so much that when I go back to wearing shiny polishes right after, I miss the grittiness.

But the polish in this review is much smoother than the typical textured polishes, so I think it just might steal your heart! 🙂

Hehe, I like your New Year’s resolution of buying more polish. That’s definitely a resolution that won’t be ignored! 😉

      Hey Erin!

WOWZERS – amazing! I hope you love all the colours.

Which one’s your favourite from the bunch so far? For me, I really loved OPI 4 in the Morning when I wore it for several days straight. Expect a review on it next week!

I saw that the two I’m most interested in (this one and 4 am) are included in the mini set and now I’m really excited! I do have a few nail resolutions for 2014 with the main one being to finally buy some nail stamping stuff. I figured a new year is the perfect time to try it out. 🙂

      Hey Tanya!

It’s funny that you should say that because verrrrry soon (next week!), I’m going to be posting a full review with tons of swatches on OPI 4 in the Morning. I love it so much, and I wore it for several days straight.

You’re going to have so much fun nail stamping. I bet that you’ll never look at a plain manicure the same way again. You’ll see it and think, “I wonder what stamping would look like over it?” At least that’s what happened to me when I discovered nail stamping! 🙂
