Sally Hansen Midnight Glitz is one of the amazing, glittertastic nail polishes in the Wonderlust Holiday Collection, which will hit stores in November.
This nail polish is marketed as a layering polish, so that’s exactly how I chose to wear it. Haha, and it didn’t take long for me to come up with a colour combination!
Although this sparkle diva is supposed to be more for the December holidays, I was itching to give it some Hallowe’en flavour. (After all, my favourite holiday is Hallowe’en!) So, I went with a pumpkin-friendly orange, China Glaze Papaya Punch.
The overall effect is exactly what I was aiming for, and it’s making me look forward to October 31st even more!

Sally Hansen Midnight Glitz Review
Colour
Midnight Glitz by Sally Hansen has glitter suspended in a clear base. The glitter is mainly black, but you’ll also see holographic glitter.
There are small black and holographic particles, medium black hexagons, and large golden hexagons. Together, they offer a great sprinkling of glitter that adds a festive touch to any manicure.
Finish
I could notice some texture, but it wasn’t too bad. I think it’s because there’s a lot of clear polish to coat each piece of glitter. And when you slap on your final top coat, that smoothes out everything nicely, so you don’t even notice any texture.
Application & Formula
Midnight Glitz by Sally Hansen has a very smooth formula. The base polish itself glides on like a charm, but you’ll need to use your brush to manipulate the glitter if you want even distribution. (If you just paint on the polish like a normal lacquer, you’ll get some spots with clumps of glitter and other areas that are bald.)
Because of the chunky nature of this polish, it’s trickier to remove than your standard creme or shimmer polish. That’s why I like to use just one layer – it’s easier to remove than if you layer coat upon coat of glitter.
What It Looks Like Worn Solo
Sally Hansen advertises this polish as being meant as a ‘sequin over coat’, so I wasn’t expecting it to achieve full opacity with a single coat. And I only plan to wear it as a layered polish.
However, in case curiosity gets the best of you, below is what it looks like after 4 medium coats.
As you can see, there are still areas that aren’t totally covered with glitter. So, I don’t think you should wear it solo unless you don’t mind your natural nail peeking through in certain spots.
Layered Over Other Colours
Before I settled on my final manicure, I decided to try out a few layering combinations. I was looking for a good Hallowe’en combo. And, well, the aqua was thrown in because I was curious. (See, curiosity does sometimes get the better of us!) 😉

Final Verdict: 8/10
Midnight Glitz by Sally Hansen is a fun nail polish to own, and you can get a lot of varied looks just by layering it over a different nail polish.
What would you layer under Midnight Glitz? Do you tend to wear glitter solo, on an accent nail, or with 1 coat over a base?
Love the look. It just screams Halloween! I’ll be getting one or two of these when they hit stores in November.
Hey Melissa!
Thanks! 🙂 Hehe, can you tell that I’m really looking forward to Hallowe’en? 😉
Ooh, I really like this! I also think it looks really good over the blue one too.
Hey Tanya!
It can definitely work over a lot of lighter/brighter polishes. I think it would look great over a yellow for a honey-bee look!
This is such a great Halloween look! I wear glitter with one coat over whenever I’m wearing it. I like seeing how it’ll go with various bases, and I also just like getting distracted by the sparkle when I’m going about my day :o)
Hey Donnie!
Wearing glitter in layered looks is my favourite way to wear them because you can completely get a different manicure look if you use a different-coloured base. Plus it’s easier to remove when you use just one coat of glitter – always a plus!
Awesome glitter! 😀

Hey Lizzy!
And it’s so versatile, too! 🙂 I’m curious to see how other people would use this for layering. It’d be neat to see different colour combinations!
No. no. no!! I don’t want another brand that is available to me in normal stores and that I just can’t pass without grabbing something… but this one sure looks too much fun to pass up on!
Hey Joyce!
Haha, sorry for the temptation! 😉
I layered it over black and it is gorgeous. I kinda wish it had fewer of the larger gold glitter because the holographic glitter is just so WOW.
Hey Kellie!
Great choice – it would really pop with that layering combination. I can picture it!
