The other day, I was grocery shopping at Loblaws and was struck by an intense craving for some salty snacks.
At first, I was going to reach for a bag of all-dressed chips or dill-pickle chips, but then I walked by the health-food and Asian sections and found some yummy snacks I wanted to try instead.
In this post, I’ll show you 3 of theΒ Snacks I’m Munching On.
They’re all considered junk food, so don’t expect to see anything healthy. π
(In my defence…hehe, because I feel the strong need to ‘defend’ my snacking choices, I did buy a fresh-veggie platter for myself with broccoli, cauliflower, celery, and carrots. But when I went to put it in my fridge right after coming home from the grocery store, I tried to put it on the top rack. Thought it was secure, but I didn’t push it back far enough. Guess what? The platter fell onto the ground, the plastic lid popped open, and there were veggies all over my kitchen floor! I was frustrated because I didn’t feel right about rinsing them and eating them since they touched the dirty kitchen floor, so it’s a waste of food. Plus it was my only healthy snack…)
P.S.Β I’ll also show you a really cool frying pan I bought recently. It’s the cutest! (Yes, a frying pan can be cute – you’ll see!)
Okay, so it wasn’t my first time trying these Hapi Hot Wasabi Peas, but it has been a couple of years since I ate them.
If you like the burns-up-your-nose feeling that wasabi gives you when you eat it with sushi, you may like this. And if you want a snack that gives you that satisfying crunch, this will also be right up your alley.
I like eating these occasionally when I’m hungry, but I’m caught between meals. Because they’re hot (at least they’re hot to me – my level of heat tolerance is low to medium), it prevents me from eating the whole container in one sitting, even though it’s small.
I’m the type of person who munches on snacks the entire day and, if I were to eat traditional chips, I can literally eat half or the entire large bag at one go. Afterwards, all the oil makes me feel gross. So, I appreciate how this hot snack helps me not go overboard. It helps me not ruin my appetite for the upcoming meal.
It’s a little on the pricey side. I forget exactly how much I paid, but it was around $2 to $3 CAD for this little tin. (You can also buy it in a long tin in a size that’s maybe 3/4 the length of the Pringles chips can.)
Here’s what they look like.
Some green peas are coated more than others.
See the one on the bottom left that’s fully coated? Just eating oneΒ would send that burns-up-your-nose feeling. Clears the sinuses…haha! π That’s what my dad used to joke about when he ate hot food. (I’m not sure if he ever liked or tried wasabi peas. I know that my mom doesn’t like them. She also doesn’t like eating chips.)
Speaking of chips, I couldn’t just hang up my hankering for them and be satisfied with wasabi green peas.
Sometimes I like to walk down the health-food aisle at Loblaws because they have stuff that I don’t usually eat.
(Sure, I sometimes eat organic food, but I’m not one of those people who only buys organic. Unfortunately, my finances can’t support that lifestyle. However, sometimes I treat myself to organic apples, and I definitely notice a big difference compared to regular, run-of-the-mill apples.)
These Garden Veggie Straws in the Rosemary and Olive Oil flavour caught my eye – partially because they were on sale and partially because I never ate them before.
They have no artificial flavours, no trans fat, and no preservatives!
There’s an original version in a green bag, but I got this because rosemary and olive oil are always a tasty combination in my mind.
These are delicious! Dangerously delicious! In fact, I pulverized this entire bag in a single sitting. This is one of those snacks where “you can’t just eat one”. It’s very addictive, and it’s fun to eat because they’re very crunchy.
They’re called straws because these pieces are hollow and look like rectangular straws. Very fun!
The back of the bag says that the portion you should eat is 68 straws. But, I didn’t count. I never do.
Here’s what they look like:
Finally, I caught sight of someΒ Garlic Green Peas. I’ve only ever seen plain or wasabi green peas, so this was new to me.
I had to give them a go.
Inside the large pack were several portion-sized packs:
These peas are much smaller than the wasabi green peas I showed you earlier.
I really love garlic, so trying this was a must. The garlic flavour was there – not too intense and not mild, either. It was good, but I don’t think I’ll buy them again just because I like green-pea snacks where the peas are larger. It makes it easier to eat. (But, if I’m eating them at home, I could probably just use a spoon.)
So, those were some of things I’ve been munching on. Could you hear me crunching all the way from here? π
Lastly, I would like to show you something unrelated. Here’s a cute frying pan I picked up.
It’s perfect for frying a single egg. I love eating eggs in the morning, and I love putting them on bagels or English muffins as a breakfast sandwich. But, I strongly dislike having to pull out my large pan just for something so small.
This tiny little pan is ideal for those who are just cooking something very small for ourselves. π
I’ve placed a full-size OPI nail polish in front of the pan so you can see just how small this cute little frying pan is! Awwwww!
(This reminds me of the pans I used to play “House” with in kindergarten. Haha, looks like I’m reverting back to being a child…except now I’m allowed to use the hot stove.) π
What snacks have you been chowing down on recently? Do you snack throughout the day? What is your favourite thing to munch on at work or at school?
Hi Mary!
I loved your frying pan! It’s so cute and small! (loved the handle ;)) I also hate bringing out the large frying pan for one egg, the “egg layer” gets too thin and it takes time for the fryer to get hot.
About snacks, I’m more of a candy/cookie-kind of person. I occasionally eat chips, but mostly because my bf is eating them and then I only eat a couple. My favorite is sourcream n’ union, dill/chive/herbs and those being extra crispy/dry.
When I want to munch on something I buy chocolate or chocolate chips cookies or pecan and maple danish. And I like buying candies being red/pink because I like their flavour the most (strawberry/raspberry like). I also like to bake and mostly it contains chocolate! π

Hey Gelic’ nail art!
Guess what? I’ve already tried out the new frying pan twice, and I love it! It’s so easy to clean, and it fries the eggs perfectly. I like to actually put two eggs in the pan so it’s thicker. Perfect for a yummy breakfast sandwich!
Oohhh, I love candies and cookies, too! Yum yum! But lately, I’ve been on a bit of a salt kick.
My husband would love all of these snacks! I’m going to look for them next time I go to the supermarket or health food store. Thanks for sharing!!!!
But the frying pan—too small for him. (I’d like it, tho). He likes to cook for the three of us.
Hey Sophie!
Yay! I hope your husband enjoys those snacks. And if you come across other stuff you think I’d like, please come back and let me know. My stomach is always on the hunt for tasty food. π
Haha, yeah, I imagine that a lot of men wouldn’t want to use such a small pan. I’m small, and even I feel a little silly cooking with something that literally is the size of the toy I played with in kindergarten! π Hehe, but it’s been working out well for me. π Maybe I’m “reliving” my childhood – I used to like playing “House”. π
OMG That is a cute frying pan! π I think I’m going to have to see if HEB carries the garlic peas. Wasabi is a bit too hot for me. lol

Hey Lizzy!
The wasabi is quite hot. Hehe, sometimes I’ll try eating a couple of peas at a time, but then I quickly regret it and it burns. I can only really eat these peas one at a time.
Have you ever tried Nagaraya brand hot & spicy cracker nuts? Delicious!
Hey Tam!
No, I’ve never even heard of them! Oh, there are actual nuts mixed in with the crackers? I probably wouldn’t be able to eat it then, since I have a nut allergy. π
I saw that pan at Stop and Shop a few weeks ago! Super cute, and a smart idea. I’ve ordered one of those silicone egg rings to try, same idea (bagel-sized egg!) but cheaper. Though yes, I will have to break out a larger pan.
Hey Heather!
There’s a whole line of cute egg products by this brand, and I kind of want to collect them all. Haha! π
I have one of those silicone egg rings you mentioned. Mine’s heart-shaped, but I didn’t like it because the heart was too big, but the ring wasn’t high. So the shape didn’t turn out well. I think the rings work better if they’re taller and not as wide.
Oh I saw a little pan like that. I ooooo-ed and aaaahhhh-ed n my husband thought I was nuts. Next time I WILL buy it!!
Hey Alice!
Pfft! What do guys know about cute little pans anyway? π Hehehehe!
I feel both happy and guilty that I just enabled you to buy that pan. (Don’t tell your husband it was partially my fault!) π
You’re right, that is a cute pan! I’ve tried the wasabi peas but didn’t care for them. I think I just don’t like wasabi as a flavoring, because I am fine with spicy stuff overall. I am Mexican, after all. π I’ve tried a variation of the veggie sticks before, but the rosemary flavoring sounds especially yummy! π

Hey another Cristina!
Yeah, wasabi isn’t for everyone. I just like how intense it is. Usually I can’t take things that are really hot/spicy, but wasabi is something I can handle, so I like to test my taste-bud limits. π
I think I’ve tried all those snack you listed here – wasabi peas are definitely a fave of mine!

Hey Margo!
Cool! π Are there any other snacks in a similar vein that you’d recommend I try? I’m always on the lookout for tasty food!
Oh I LOVE wasabi peas!! π
Ashesela recently posted: Lord of the Rings Map Nail Art
Hey Ashesela!
Can you eat a whole handful at once, or do you have to eat them one at a time like I do?
Wow, I love your snack choices! Because I eat these exact snacks as well, haha! I usually can’t stop myself from “grazing”, so I’m glad the peas come in small packages. And I usually get the veggie straws in a box with small packages inside, but I admit sometimes I can’t resist, and eat more than one bag in one sitting. π Your little fish bowl is really cute too!
Recently I’ve been eating croutons, minus the salad. Not the healthiest snack, but I try to limit myself…
Hey Julia!
Awesome that we’re snacking ‘twins’! π Munch away, my friend, munch away!
Haha, funny how you call it grazing – that’s totally what it is. Hehehe!
I adore the little fish bowl. It came in a set of 4 (with different colours), and it’s supposed to be used for soya sauce when you’re eating sushi. π I also have a large clear plate that’s in the shape of a large fish.
Mmm…croutons are sooooo yummy! *Craving them now*
sounds so good i love the chinese mix dont know if you know it , it has wasabi in the mix too
Hey Icequeen81!
Is that the mix that has some crackers or something that looks like chips…or maybe shrimp chips?
