I’ve always heard good things about the True Blue Spa products from Bath & Body Works, but it was only until very recently that I tried my first one.
Since my hands have been pretty dry with extra-frequent washing, I decided to put this cream to the test: True Blue Spa Super Rich Hand Cream Lay It On Thick Fragrance Free! (Wowzers, that was long!)
So, I’m not usually diligent about applying hand cream after every single instance I wash my hands. More often than not, I find myself applying cream when I notice that my hands are dry. (Yeah, not the best strategy.)
It also doesn’t help that sadly, I’m still feeling under the weather. (When I’m sick, I tend to wash my hands and use sanitizer a lot more because I don’t want to spread my misfortune.) I made some improvement and thought I was getting better, but then the really cold weather made it harder to recuperate. This is officially the worst illness I’ve had in a long time, and I’m so ready for it to leave me alone!

Moisturizing Efficacy
As I was slathering on this True Blue Spa hand cream and ‘laying it on thick’ as the name blatantly says, I was skeptical about how well it would moisturize because although the consistency was thick coming out of the tube, when I rubbed it into my skin, it felt very thin. (My skin usually loves thicker lotions like Aveeno.)
You have to really rub this product in, and I noticed that no matter how long I did so, it still left my hands looking a bit shiny.
I’m also glad that I only applied it to the backs of my hands (and not my palms). At work, I have to type a lot on the computer, so having slick fingertips and palms might drive me crazy and dirty up my keyboard.
After letting the product sink into the skin for an hour, then I noticed it wasn’t quite so greasy-looking.
Aside from the ‘slick’ look, the True Blue Spa hand cream did a good job at hydrating my parched hands. I felt immediate relief as I was applying it, and after leaving it on for a while, I could see and feel a big difference.
Fragrance
One of the main reasons why I even decided to try the True Blue Spa Super Rich Hand Cream was because it came in a fragrance-free formula. Sure, I love yummy-smelling lotions and creams, but sometimes you just want something that’s plain and that won’t interfere with your perfume.
I didn’t really notice any fragrance when using this, so I was really happy about it.
Packaging
The True Blue Spa Super Rich Hand Cream comes in a small 70-gram squeeze tube with a flip-up cap. This is my favourite type of packaging for a hand cream because I can easily throw it into my purse and dispense the product while on-the-go. (Creams that come in pots with screw-on lids always confuse me. Wouldn’t your hands be slick with cream, and wouldn’t that make it hard to screw the lid back on?)
For the price, even though I got this on a Buy-2-Get-1-Free sale, I thought it was quite expensive for such a tiny tube, but I’ve found that using it sparingly (instead of slathering it on like I did initially) still seems to yield good results.

Final Verdict: 8/10
Even though the True Blue Spa Super Rich Hand Cream moisturized my hands as promised, I personally still prefer my Aveeno lotions to this. With Aveeno, I feel like it doesn’t make your hands feel so slick, and I’m not a big fan of having my skin look like I dipped it into a bucket of KFC. 😉
Still, I had to give this True Blue Spa hand cream a high score because it managed to bring my dry hands back to looking normal again even with just the initial use. I think this is better used as an overnight hand treatment than one you frequently use throughout the day.
Would I repurchase this? Probably not. I’ll stick with my Aveeno.

sounds good I always forget to sue hand cream, and you are right sometimes you cant mix, I have that with my hand sanitiser I don’t want the smell of the hand cream mix with the hand sanitiser is a awful smell

Haha, yeah, I’ve made that mistake many times where the lotion and the sanitizer smell nice on their own, but combined…yuck! 😛
I’ve been loving the Live Clean lotion I got, even though It’s not “specifically” for hands. When I put it on at night before bed my super dry hands feel soft and healthy (if you get what I mean) in the morning. I got the pomegranate flavoured one and all over my skin feels more hydrated (so important living in Edmonton!!). I despise the lotions that sit on the surface of your skin and wash off as soon as water touches your hands. And I won’t even get started on the greasy ones, LOL!! Hope you feel better soon!

The pomegranate scent sounds nice and refreshing! Yes, I’m with you on disliking the lotions that just lie on top. I prefer the ones that sink in right away and get to work! Stop lying around and being lazy, lotion! Haha!
Thank you – I’m really surprised at how long this cold is lingering. I almost never get sick, and this one really got me badly. (I haven’t even painted my nails for days and have been wearing the same colour…Haha, I know, soooo ‘terrible’. Hehe! But, for me, it’s unusual.)
Hrm. Seems like the kind of product that would work best if you don’t have to do a lot of stuff with your hands. :p Perhaps before bed? If I have to wait an hour for my hands to de-slick I’m more likely to just wipe it all off. LOL Funny they put it in a small tube and tell you to “lay it on thick”…. seems like a racket.

Yeah, so not very practical! I’ve definitely been using it before bed since when I’m awake, I use my hands a lot. As you know, I’m a professional wrestler, so I need to be able to grab my opponent easily. Greasy lotions make me lose my edge in the ring. 😛 Hahahaha! Just being silly. 😉 Although now I wonder what hand lotion wrestlers use. They must have dry hands that need healing.
And even if you lay this cream on thick, it becomes super greasy, so I think their suggestion is really weird. In my opinion, it’s best used sparingly so it absorbs better since the formula takes a long time to sink in.
I tired this hand lotion in the fall and although it felt moisturizing, it left my hands feeling incredibly greasy and shiny for a long time. I don’t want to worry about putting hand prints on everything in the house, so I only use this at night when I’m going to bed. Great post!

Parabens are preservatives. They’ve been found in breast cancer tumours, so an increasing number of consumers have become more concerned about their exposure to parabens.
As for myself, I still use some products that have parabens. And, when I come across a product that claims to be paraben-free, I have to share that information with my readers in case there are those who are trying to cut out or cut back on parabens.
