Orly Sapphire Silk is from the Precious Collection back in 2011. Since purchasing it when it was first released, I’ve worn it several times solo and once under Clarins 230.
It’s safe to say that I’m very much attracted to this blue nail polish.
Originally, I purchased it because it was rumoured to be a dupe for MAC Blue India (which I don’t own, but liked).
(You can Google comparison swatches to see what they look like side-by-side.)
After buying Sapphire Silk, I had absolutely no desire to track down Blue India. It squashed that lemming, which is good because Orly is way more affordable than MAC.

Orly Sapphire Silk Review
Colour
This blue isn’t your ordinary garden variety. It’s a blue with teal undertones and a dusty appearance.
While I love bright blues like China Glaze Blue Sparrow, I also find my heart racing every time I wear a dusty blue. For some reason, I think that it’s more ‘grown up’ than sky blues, and it has a fashionable personality.
Maybe there are lots of dusty blues out there, but in my collection, I only have a few, so that makes Sapphire Silk even more special to me.
Finish
What I love about Sapphire Silk by Orly is that the finish is no-nonsense. It’s a creme that isn’t flashy. It doesn’t come up to you wearing a trench coat, fling open the front, and blind you. Instead, it’s elegant and minimalist, which I find endearing.
Application & Formula
Sapphire Silk by Orly applies like a dream. The formula’s creamy and smooth. With the great brush and the rubberized handle, you have total control over the application. (Gotta give major kudos to Orly. The vast majority of their polishes apply effortlessly.)

Final Verdict: 10/10
Sure, Sapphire Silk by Orly doesn’t pull out all the stops like a multichrome or a glitterbomb, but sometimes you just want something simple and pretty. This is perfect, in my opinion, because I don’t have to struggle to apply it, the finish looks smooth, and the dusty blue is a shade I find very easy to sport.
Do you feel the need to wear the latest nail polishes, or do you dip into your older shades often? Are you also a fan of Orly lacquer?
This looks like it would be breathtaking with a matte top coat! I have to see if I can track this one down 🙂 Orly is pretty much the only American brand that retails at an affordable price in my country!

Hey Fedoraharp!
Good idea! I have worn this polish more than once, and none of the times have I ever experimented with a matte top coat. Now that you mention it, I think it would look spectacular!
Good to know that you can get Orly reasonably! They’re a great brand – lots of colour choices plus their bottles have more polish inside! 😀
I actually discovered a cool matte trick by mistake- instead of applying matte directly onto the polish, put a regular top coat on first. It makes the base color have a kind of glowing-from-within feel. At least with shimmers! I remember trying it with Orly Smoulder and the result was dramatically different.

Oooh! Interesting! I’ve never heard that one before. I’ll have to try it out sometime.
That’s beautiful!! I’m going to have to keep my eyes open for it. Very lovely. 🙂
