Nicole by OPI Selena Swatches & Review

Nicole-by-OPI-Selena-Swatches-Review-Selena-Gomez-CollectionNicole by OPI Selena is the second shade that I wore from the Selena Gomez Collection that’ll be in stores January 2013.

Pale pink nail polish usually is difficult for me to sport because a lot of times it makes my fingers look dirty, or there isn’t enough contrast between the colour of my skin and the lacquer.

But Nicole by OPI Selena had a tiny bit of peach in it, so I gave it a shot. 🙂

Edit: I totally forgot that I had photos of my manicure in the sunlight. I’ve updated the post to include those pictures.

√ Fresh, young peach

Key Notes

Nicole by OPI Selena Review

Colour

Nicole by OPI Selena is such a soft, pretty pink with a hint of peach that if it had a texture, it would be fluffy…like the sheep you’re supposed to count when you can’t sleep.

(Does anyone actually count sheep? I tried doing that when I was in elementary school, but stopped at close to 1000 because I was extremely bored. And I was still wide awake. I’ve never tried counting sheep since.)

This peachy-pink polish is nice, but it’s not my style. I’m more into polishes that pack a punch (preferably an uppercut). Although it didn’t clash with my skin tone, I found that it also didn’t stand out against it. For this reason, I believe it would be more suitable for those who have much lighter or much richer skin tones than me.

Finish

When I saw this in the bottle, I thought that Nicole by OPI Selena was a creme polish, but to my surprise, it’s actually not!

There is micro-shimmer that’s so subtle and so fine that you might miss it even when you’re wearing it. In the sunlight, you can see it, and it looks like it might be slightly iridescent because it didn’t seem just silver or just one colour.

The shimmer is soooo subtle that it’s undetectable by other people. You’ll be the only person to notice it, and even then, you may have to bring your nails abnormally close to your eyes (yes, I do that when I wear polish because I’m a weirdo).

Application & Formula

The formula was pretty streaky, so you’ll need 3 coats. I used 4 coats because I wanted to see if there was a dramatic difference. There wasn’t. So, to get full opacity with this one, you’ll need 3 coats minimum.

The polish was easy enough to control, and it wasn’t too runny or too thick.

Pros

  • Pretty pink with a bit of peach
  • Has very subtle micro-shimmer
Cons

  • Subtle micro-shimmer is so soft that you can only really see it if you look very closely and in the sunlight
  • Requires at least 3 coats for full opacity

Final Verdict: 6.5/10

My low Final Verdict score doesn’t mean this polish isn’t any good. It just means that I wasn’t crazy about it. The shade didn’t do anything for me, and while it didn’t clash with my skin tone, I also felt like it didn’t flatter, either. This is the type of colour that I feel looks better on other people than it does on me.

Would you wear Nicole by OPI Selena? What pink polish is the one you wear the most?

Haha, I most definitely tried that counting sheep thing, and just like you, I eventually stopped because it got boring 😛

I actually really love this color! And I’m not a pink person at all. I think it’s because it has a touch of peach that makes it appealing and not so sickeningly pink 😛

      Hey lawren!

Especially because you’re not a pink person, I’m surprised you like this shade! 🙂

P.S. I found a bunch of photos I took of this while wearing it in the sunlight. Forgot to put them in this post, but I’ll get them up soon. The sunlight photos help you see the creaminess of the colour better.

Like you, I’m not crazy about pinks, but that’s more because I’m not a huge fan of the colour. It would have to be a pretty spectacular pink to get me to take notice. I also prefer colours with a punch.

For me, this kind of pink suggests little girly. That and the lack of opacity would be enough to turn me off.

      Hey Gwen!

Definitely this is a very girly type of pink, which is suitable for Selena. (I don’t know her or her music well, but from the way she dresses, I get the impression that she’s girly.)

It looks nice on your skin color , for some kind of reason those colors doesnt look on me , it gives my skin an old tan color ( you know when old woman look orange after tanning?) like that.
I’m more a vampy, wine and berry person it looks fresh on my skin color and give me a smooth and young look.

U did also a nice and neat manicure

      Hey Icequeen81!

Hahahahaha, yes, I know exactly what you mean about the ‘old-woman-orange-tan’ look! I get that with a LOT of pink polishes, which is probably why I don’t wear many. 😛

For me, it’s not that I don’t like them. I just have a lot of trouble finding the right shade. But, give me a green, and we’re good. Easy peasy, over easy.

      Hey Randi!

Okay, it’s good that I wasn’t alone in thinking this. Sometimes when I try out a pink, I’m concerned about being biased (as I usually don’t care much for most pinks).

Agree – just OK and I know I have a # of ’em that look like this and don’t tend to reach for those very often. That coupled with I HATE the NOPI bottles makes this way less than a 6.5 in my book!

      Hey beachgal!

Haha, so many people dislike the Nicole by OPI bottle shape. I wonder if they’ll one day redesign it. That might be the only thing getting in the way of them making more sales. Who knows?

I think this looks good on you :). For such a light color, it still has some punch. I was disappointed to hear about the streakiness issue, though–3-4 coats seems like too much work for a simple creme polish with barely visible shimmer.

      Hey Jessica!

Thanks! 🙂 Yeah, it was very milky, and when I applied the first coat, I wasn’t expecting it to be quite that streaky.
