OPI The World Is Not Enough Swatches & Review

OPI-The-World-Is-Not-Enough-Swatches-ReviewOPI The World Is Not Enough from the Skyfall Collection brings to mind the song by the musical group, Garbage.

Remember Garbage? #1 Crush was my favourite from them. It’s such a sexy, dark song. And even to this day, I think that Shirley Manson is incredibly gorgeous. (Hehe, you know how I feel about redheads!) 😉

Alas, I digress (as usual!)…Back to the polish!

This is a neutral that’s more than meets the eye. Upon closer inspection, I was really intrigued by what I saw.

So what did I see? The light at the end of the tunnel? A man doing the Macarena underwater? A frog playing the kazoo with its left nostril?

Okay, maybe not, but I did see something interesting!

OPI The World Is Not Enough Review

Colour

At first, I thought that The World Is Not Enough by OPI was just your standard taupe glittery nail polish. But when I was being the vainest peacock in the zoo and inspecting my nails up close and personal, I noticed that the glitter isn’t just taupe. It sometimes looks silvery, but most times it’s a warm tone. I also saw pink and what looked like blue (although the ‘blue’ could’ve just been the reflection of the taupe or pewter).

All the colours blend together, so the pink and ‘blue’ don’t stand out. It was very interesting…like a personal secret that you get to enjoy yourself. However, it’s the taupe that dominates.

From a normal distance, you can’t see those other colours. And although I really did try to capture the colours with my camera, I had quite a challenging time. If you look realllllly closely and inspect the photos, you can make them out a little in the natural-light photos.

Finish

The glitter is very fine, and the result is smooth, not sharp and rough.

Application & Formula

It was very easy to apply this polish, however it was on the thin side, so it was pretty streaky with the first coat.

I recommend that you use a minimum of 3 coats if you want to completely cover the nail line. And I also suggest that if you’re going to use a quick-drying top coat (like I did), try to wait a while between your final coat of colour and your top coat. This will hopefully prevent tip wear, which is what I got because I was impatient and then slapped on too much top coat (which can also lead to premature tip wear, by the way).

Pros

  • Interesting pewter/taupe with pink & ‘blue’ (maybe it was a reflection of the silver, though)
  • Formula applies easily
Cons

  • Thin, watery formula is prone to shrinkage if you use a quick-dry top coat & don’t wait before applying the top coat

Final Verdict: 7.5/10

The World Is Not Enough by OPI is a nice neutral that’s very easy to wear and pair with anything in your wardrobe. I liked how sparkly it was and how there are other colours that seem to appear ‘for your eyes only’. 😉

What’s your favourite song by Garbage? When you hear ‘The World Is Not Enough’, do you think of the movie or the song (also by Garbage)?

This one kind of reminds me of Zoya FeiFei in glitter load. I want to like it but something about it is reading as overloaded in my mind. Maybe I am just going through a more minimal phase? I did pass this one over in my picks. Did not think I would get beyond the overloaded feeling and also the base shade was just not one I thought would look attractive on me. Maybe when the 1 place I get to who sells OPI gets this collection in, I will change my mind when I try on the nail color wheel chip against my own skin.

      Hey beachgal!

Overloaded? Really? In person, it’s just very sparkly, but I actually consider it more of a subdued glitter because the taupe really tames it.

Yeah, those nail swatches in stores really help you judge whether or not a colour would look good on you. I wish that more stores had them for all different brands.

I love this one! This is one of those rare times when all the colours that come in the mini set are the colours I’ve had my eye on! I think I will just get the mini set and call it a day 🙂

      Hey Kat!

SCORE! How awesome is that? Yes, usually I find that there’s one or two colours I want that are missing from the mini set. Hehe, it’s probably a way for OPI to get you to buy the full-size bottles. 😉

But…are you suuuure that you don’t want a full-size bottle of GoldenEye? Seriously, when you wear it, you’ll want 15 mL of it because the mini polish just isn’t enough.

      Hey Randi!

That’s a good point you raise. Definitely agree with you! It’s casual because of the easy-going taupe, but because it’s sparkly, you can dress it up.

      Hey Saima!

Really? Did you ask her anything about her music, or did you play it cool and treat her just like another customer? What was she like? And what did the sofa look like?

      Hey Catherine!

Glad you liked my little peacock comment. 😉 Sometimes I really feel like a peacock when I stare at my nails a lot. But…it’s for the blog! 😉 Hahahhaa…or maybe the power of polish compels me! Polish exorcist?

Yes, this polish definitely has a taupe look to it. There’s some pewter, though. And I think the pink warms up the shade.

Hey Maria! Your nails and cuticles are so beautiful. I apologize if you’ve answered this question before, but what is your cuticle care routine? My cuticles are having a rough time at the moment. 🙁

      Hey C!

Oh my gosh – THANK YOU! 😀

Haha, but I’m seriously the last person to give any advice on cuticle care. Why? I neglect my cuticles a lot. Literally, I apply cuticle cream a few times a year…and I did it more back when I was preparing a review on the Burt’s Bees lemon one a while ago. After that, I got lazy and stopped (even though I LOVED that cuticle cream). Even when it comes to using hand lotion, I’m pretty lazy and don’t do it as often as I should.

If you’re looking for a great cuticle cream, I highly recommend that one. It smells delicious and is very effective and affordable. (You can check out my full review on it if you’re interested: http://www.swatchandlearn.com/burts-bees-lemon-butter-cuticle-creme-review-pictures I actually liked it so much that I included it in my Best of 2011 post at the end of the year: http://www.swatchandlearn.com/the-best-of-2011-nail-polish-nail-art-makeup-skincare-fragrance)

But…if you’re willing to take advice from someone who doesn’t listen to herself… 😉 …well, for healthy cuticles, you should try to use cuticle oil or cream on a regular basis (usually at night so it’ll absorb better). And you should moisturize your hands after washing them to replenish the moisture that’s lost. Also, don’t cut your cuticles (this rule, I actually follow). Instead, just push them back gently with a cuticle pusher. If you cut your cuticles, they can grow back faster and thicker, I’ve read. Plus you open yourself up to infection. And…pushing back cuticles is just way easier. (See? Sometimes laziness is a good thing!) 😛

No worries! 🙂 Actually, my hairdresser always calls me Maria even though he knows my name is Mary. And I have a few friends who insist on calling me Maria. 😛 Some strangers who met me thought I looked Spanish/Portuguese (which is funny because I’m not and I don’t think I look to be of that nationality), so they ask me if my real name is Maria. But, no, my birth name is Mary. Annnnnd…one of my brother’s old ex-girlfriends had the birth name Maria, but she wanted everyone to call her Mary instead. 😛
