You may remember how excited I was because it more than paid for the cost of the Topbox – great value!
Haha, well, it ‘only’ took me nearly a year to try it out. (Isn’t it strange how you can be so excited about a polish, but then it takes you forever and a day to actually wear it?)
Better late than never, I say!
After wearing China Glaze Prey Tell for a short while, I felt the need to make it blingtastic. This manicure was the result.

Deborah Lippmann Some Enchanted Evening Review
Colour
The main colour of this polish is an icy pink. When I first saw this polish (and took it out of my Helmer to admire it on several occasions), I thought it was just an icy-pink glitter polish. It’s not! When I wore it, there are actually holographic glitter pieces, so when the light shines on them, you can see many colours in the rainbow – blue, red, yellow, green, etc.
Finish
Some Enchanted Evening by Deborah Lippmann has a chunky-glitter finish, so you’ve been forewarned…This is the hardcore type of polish that you’ll need to use the Foil Method for removal, unless you want to scrub your nails raw for an hour. (If you do the crime, you must do the time.) 😉
It’s also hella gritty. You must use a thick top coat if you want this to feel smooth. And it also ate glitter like it was at an all-you-can-eat-top-coat buffet.
There are large hexagonal glitter pieces and a sprinkling of smaller glitter.
I wouldn’t recommend wearing this polish solo. (The more coats you use, the harder it is to remove.)
When it’s layered over another colour, I think it looks the best because having a contrasting base colour helps to accentuate the glitter. I feel like if you wear this solo, the glitter just blends together, and you can’t really see the outline of each glitter piece.
In my swatches, I used 2 coats over a base colour, but it still looked very nice with just a single coat over a base colour. It really depends on how much of the base colour you want showing through. If I could redo this manicure, I’d choose to use just a single coat because the sparse look, in my opinion, was better than this dense 2nd coat.
Application & Formula
Some Enchanted Evening by Deborah Lippmann had a thick consistency, but it wasn’t difficult to work with. However, I can see this formula as being the type to get even thicker with age. Eventually, you’ll need to restore its original consistency with nail-polish thinner (not remover).
The glitter spread out evenly on my nails without me having to put in much effort, and when you go over with a second coat, the glitter still disperses evenly without any trouble.
I found that it dried faster than the average polish, but that’s pretty standard for glitter polishes.
Packaging
I love, love, love the way Deborah Lippmann polishes look because the bottles remind me of ice cubes. There’s something really modern and slick about their bottle design.
Value
This polish retails for more than the average nail polish (about $20-something CAD and $18 USD). That’s quite a lot, and I expect a lot from expensive polishes to justify the high price tag.
Sadly, I don’t think this is a $20-something polish. The formula isn’t outstanding, the colour is nice with the holographic glitter, but again, it’s not outstanding. For a pricey polish, everything about it needs to be outstanding for me to recommend it.
It’s not a bad polish, but I feel like you could find something similar for much less.

Yeah, Some Enchanted Evening by Deborah Lippmann was one point away from being ‘Busted’ on Swatch And Learn.
It treaded water because I like the sparkly glitter, but Some Enchanted Evening almost sank because that glitter was gritty and the formula was thick. For the price, I would expect smooth glitter and perfect consistency.
Do you wear chunky glitter, or do you avoid it because it’s so difficult to remove? What’s your favourite and least favourite Deborah Lippmann nail polish?
It’s lovely, but I’m very sad that you didn’t like the polish. I have it and I ♥♥♥ it! But that’s just my opinion. I put mine over OPI My Address is Hollywood and it was gorgeous.
I find that most of the glitter polishes are extremely gritty.

I’m happy for you that you loved the polish! I am extra picky on ‘luxury’ polishes, especially when the price tag is higher. Hmm…it’s been a while since I’ve worn a super gritty glitter polish with big chunks. Not the biggest fan of removing them, unless they’re very unique. But, that’s just polish-snob me. 😛
Hi Mary! I love the way this looks but also have to agree that all gritty glitter polishes get to me in such a bad way! I just cannot stand the feeling of texture on my nails! I have in the past added two topcoats, but usually it requires three. By that point I have layered it about an inch thick (okay, just kidding) and then I deal with the feeling of having really thick nails, which I guess is better than grit to me but still feels strange! Ha! This polish reminds me so much of Revlon Sparkling polish. I actually do not own any Deborah Lipmann polishes yet. I made it a goal to try Butter London this year, and so maybe I’ll fit in Lippmann next year – haha I think my tastes keep getting more expensive! Uh-Oh! 😉
Great post, and sorry you didn’t quite love this polish. I have felt that way about many glitter polishes, but then I remember they are always nice to have in my collection – so I can at least gaze at them now and again! 😀 OH and I had to laugh at holding onto a product for a long time before getting around to trying it out – I do that too – but since I’m newer at this I haven’t gone out that far (yet!), but have definitely entered into the 2 month long stage before trying something out – ha! I just get so distracted with trying out something else – especially polishes! 😉

Wow, sometimes you’ve used THREE layers of top coat? I just couldn’t do that. The most I’ve ever done is two. After that, I think it would really bother me. Plus I love to use the quick-drying Seche Vite, so typically, I only want to do a single coat of that.
Haha, yes, thick nails feels really strange. I did that once when I wore 3 coats of a coloured polish, a few coats of a glitter polish, and then 2 coats of a top coat. And despite all that effort and time, the funny thing is that manicure didn’t even look good. It’s too bad I can’t remember the colours I used or that one…haha, but I should’ve taken a photo. (It was maybe back in 2009.) The results were comical!
Which is your favourite Butter London polish so far? I’ve only tried a few and have really enjoyed wearing their polishes!

Haha, oh yes I don’t think I’ll be doing a third topcoat any time soon – too weird! 😉 So far I have 3 Butter London’s that I have tried that are on my blog and 3 that I haven’t swatched yet! I need to get crackin’! 😉 So of the ones I’ve tried: Lady Muck, Pink Ribbon and Bossyboots, I would say…they all are my favorite — haha, well I guess I should clarify that the quality between all three are identical, so it really just depends on what I’m in the mood for with those three. But of the three, I would say Pink Ribbon is the most neutral wear anytime color (creamy pinky apricot) so I guess I will say that is my fave! 😀 I will definitely let you know if the other three I got compare. I find that Butter London and Zoya polishes last on my nails the longest (but I really haven’t tried anything higher priced than those yet either). Who knows, I could be missing out on a really great one, right!?
My weekend is going pretty great so far – other than the cloudy gloomy stayed around all day – and it poured buckets! Hoping for a sunshine day tomorrow. 🙂

It’s pretty and the holographic glitter was a nice surprise. Just wish it wasn’t overly gritty.
I do the same with polishes. I get super excited about them then I put it away with all my others and they get lost in the sea of bottles. Its awesome you got a DL in your box but it sucks it was sub par. I purchased a mini duo DL set that had Lady Sings the Blues for my first DL polishes and I was pretty disappointed in it. They look great in the bottles, but so far on the nail I’m not feeling it. I’m still curious in other shades, but not at their full retail price.
