This post was supposed to be very short and sweet, but then I ended up writing more than expected.
Today, I would like to share 3 random things that made me smile recently.
And I’d like to hear from you. What are 3 things that made you smile?
They don’t have to be physical objects like what I’m going to show in this post. It could be anything at all, such as how you kicked butt and took names on a test at school or how you got your first job.
I think it would be nice to share the small or big things that recently made us smile because they serve as a great reminder that even when times get tough, there’s always something (and someone!) to cheer us up!
The little purple character you see at the top of this blog post came home with me one day after I was ‘just browsing’ H&M years ago. I walked by, and he was just stuffed (along with his clones) in a clearance bin for around $2 CAD.
He won me over, and while initially I thought he was an octopus, maybe he’s a monster. The jury is still out, but what’s for certain is that I love how quirky he is.
I filled up his belly with coins, but one day I switched my purse, and I suppose that I neglected to transfer him to my new one. Sadly, I only found him again a few weeks ago (along with a $20 bill in his belly, which was great – it’s always awesome to find money you left in old wallets and pouches, isn’t it? π Somehow, it seems like free money, even though it was yours all along.)
Don’t worry – he forgave me on the spot, and I assured him that I’d be more careful.
The next cutie I’m going to show you was a recent purchase from just 2 weeks ago.
Again, I was ‘just browsing’, but this time, it was at Winners. I spotted twins and after hunting around, I found the third to make it a perfect triplet! π
As you may know, I have a soft spot for owls, so this became a must-have when I first laid eyes on it. I really love the fall colours and how the owl is cute instead of menacing. (Menacing owls are cool for artwork, but for kitchenware, I think the cute kind is better.)
Now, I’m not in the habit of naming a lot of objects, but from the minute I brought my owl plates home, I decided that one of them must be called Chester. Hehe, I’m not sure why, but I felt the strong urge to be a weirdo.
At first, I was just going to buy one, but then I saw they were $4.99 CAD each and 3 were available, so greedy me snatched them all. (I’m thinking about giving one of them as part of a Christmas gift, though. It would be neat to put some other goodies on the owl plate and wrap it up as a whimsical present.)
Finally…the 3rd random object that put a smile on my face. This one doesn’t have eyes. And I didn’t name it.
Yes, yes, yes, I have tons of handbags, and I shouldn’t have to buy another one until the afterlife, but when I saw this affordable and highly practical purple purse, again, it was a must-have.
For the longest time, I’ve used shoulder bags, but lately I’ve been wanting a good cross-body bag that’s lightweight and that keeps my hands free. Also, I haven’t been feeling too well for quite some time, so I wanted to reduce any added stress or weight on my shoulders to make it easier on my body in general because putting strain on your shoulders can affect the rest of your body.
With my new purple purse, not only do I think it’s really cute and perfect for the fall (although I’d wear it any time of year), but it also has forced me to be tidier and to tote just my essentials instead of tons of things I may need ‘just in case’ or garbage like old receipts and candy wrappers!
If you’re interested in buying it, they should still have it at Garage stores. It’s called the Faux Leather Crossbody Bag, and it was $19.90 CAD. But I bought it for $9.90 since I ordered more stuff online and got to use a $10 off coupon code.
It comes in this deep plum as well as brown. In case you want to order it online, here’s a link to it on the Garage website.
So…now it’s your turn – what put a smile on your face? It can be something you bought, something someone did for you, or even just something you saw (like a sunset). π
Hope you’re having a great Sunday!
It’s a great idea to think about things that make everyone happy I need to think of something fun since I’m having a real messy cold meanwhile I have a deadline for tomorrow on a big school project. Just work work work π Except for this paus π
I think what makes me happiest is my amazing boyfriend and our cute and cuddly dog. Smaller things can be finding some cool jewelry at ebay for a small price(I waiting on some to come) or when I’ve made a cool nail art which I’m content with or when somebody unexpectingly compliment something (like a painting or schoolwork) I’ve done. Or the time when the flat is clean, the bed is made with cleaned sheets and all laundry is folded and in the closet and everything is done and one can just relax, maybe relax with newly made hot chocolate chip cookies and milk…. π

Hey Gelic’ nail art!
Thanks for sharing all those wonderful things that make you smile. π Hehe, clean sheets are the best. There’s nothing quite like getting all cozy in bed with fresh sheets. I also sleep the best that night.
the story of how i get my first OPI polishes: i really wanted to have Pink Friday, Fly, Save Me and Super Bass Shatter from the Nicki Minaj Collection. but in my country there’s no single shop which sells OPI π at that time i had super bad physics marks at school and there was a really importent test coming. i learned like crazy cuz my parents said that if i would have a 7 or more out of 10 they would pay my OPI polishes and if i would have a 6 they would pay the half. i ended up having a 5.5 so i was very disappointed so i talked to my teacher andi was like “i learned that much and i made an imrovement and stuffs…..” and then he gave me a 6/10 … π im so thankful that he did that it meant so much to me. and that was the beginning of my nail polish addiction π

Woo hoo for the owl love, by the way! π Nerd Owl? Haha, now there’s some ‘name calling’ that you don’t hear often. I’d actually like that name. When I was growing up, my older brother would call me stuff like ‘fart face’…so Nerd Owl is actually nice! π
Hey Randi!
That’s so sad that there’s no store that sells OPI in your country! That must be frustrating because that brand churns out tons of amazing colours!
Oh boy…I relate to you on how challenging physics can be. In high school, I realllly had to study so hard for that class to get good marks. And that teacher also didn’t really like me (for some unknown reason…because I didn’t actually do anything to cross her), so it was awkward and uncomfortable.
Haha, I like how you were able to convince your teacher to increase your mark! Hahaha, and it’s funny how that started your nail addiction.
So, do your parents reward you with polishes on other tests, too, or was it just that one time? (Why didn’t I think about doing that?) π
The one thing in life that makes me smile is my little “family” comprised of my fiancΓ© Tyler and our fur-baby Owen.
Although my Tyler doesn’t understand my polish addiction, he’s learned not to say as much and sometimes even gives me constructive criticism about how I could perfect designs. He still sometimes shakes his head when I show him my latest polish purchase, but I know he still loves me no matter what π
Then there is Owen. He is definitely the light of my life, and makes me laugh every day. He has such a personality and you would swear that he was trying so darn hard to act human so as to fool everyone into thinking he IS human π Because we are both still living at home with our parents and Owen stays with Tyler most of the time (I haven’t won the custody battle yet π ) Owen will make a point to sprawl his entire 40lbs body across me so I can’t go home after visiting on the weekends.
Hey Erica!
Hehe, Tyler doesn’t understand your nail-polish fascination now, but I’m sure he will. Sometimes it takes a few years. π Hehehe! I do like how he’s commented on your designs and participating. Before long, you’ll be painting his nails. π
Isn’t it crazy how animals can seem like humans? Sometimes I wonder if they were humans in a previous life or something. Or maybe they really are smarter than us and are ‘dumbing it down’ so that we understand them. π
Here’s what made me smile: I was doing an art show and my neighbor artist had these beautiful earrings and no duplicates. I figured if they’re still there on Sunday I will get them. I showed them to my hubby of course, and other awesome stuff she had. Late Saturday afternoon I noticed that the earrings were gone and the lady told me she sold them. I was disappointed because I kinda wanted them but I figured oh well, I’ll save my money for more nail polish!! :)). Well I came home and when I pulled the covers to get into bed there were my earrings AND a necklace to go with them!! It was my hubby that got them for me!!! Still makes me smile wide as I’m writing this. Awesome guy :))

Hey Gosia!
Ohhhhhhh my gosh! That’s incredibly sweet and romantic of him! Yes, he sounds like an awesome guy, and you’re just as lucky to have him as he is to have you. π I’m so happy to hear about stories like this – warms my heart and reinforces the fact that there ARE kind-hearted people out there.
Thank you so much for sharing that with me. It put a smile on my face, too!
