Today I’m really excited to write about theΒ Yankee Candle Pumpkin Patch Candle! This is actually my very first Yankee Candle, so I was pumped like Arnold to try it.
Nearly all of my candle reviews are on Slatkin & Co. ones from Bath & Body Works, so this is a welcomed change of pace. And perhaps this will make my candle addiction even worse. (Hehe, like I need that!) π
A very heartfelt thank you goes out to my friend, Carmela of Polished Indulgence. She sent me this (along with a sweet card and caramel goodies) as a pleasant surprise that made my day!
Wow, can you believe that Hallowe’en will be here before we know it? I’m looking forward to it – it’s my favourite holiday of the year.

Yankee Candle Pumpkin Patch Candle Review
Fragrance
This smells like fall in a jar to me. Not only do you get some sweet pumpkin like that in pumpkin pie (which I’m crazy about – need to whip up a homemade pumpkin pie again soon), but you get all the heavy spices, too! These spices round out the fragrance and make it smell cozy.
Calling this candle ‘Pumpkin Patch’ is quite odd, though, because it doesn’t smell like fresh pumpkin. It’s more like pumpkin pie. This is a warm, spicy bakery-type scent.
Scent Throw
Compared to the moderate-to-strong scent throw of an average Slatkin & Co. candle, I found that Pumpkin Patch by Yankee Candle had a light-to-moderate scent throw in the living room. For this reason, I suggest using this candle in smaller spaces so that you can enjoy the richness of the fragrance much better.
I wonder if the lighter scent throw has to do with the fact that Pumpkin Patch only has 1 wick, whereas the large Slatkin & Co. candles I buy come with 3 wicks. Also, the large Slatkin & Co. candles are 411 g, whereas this Yankee Candle one is 340 g.
Burning
Burn, baby, burn! Pumpkin Patch held an extremely strong flame the entire time it was lit. Haha, I actually was a little paranoid because it’s way taller and wider than the flames on my Slatkin & Co. candles. I kept checking up on it because I feared that it might cause a fire! (Don’t worry – there were no accidents…Phew!)
On the label, the instructions say to burn the candle for up to 2 hours at a time. I actually timed it for precisely 2 hours each time I used it.
What I noticed is that even after 6 hours (3 separate times I used it), the wax level hardly went down. This means that my candle will last a long time. π
Now, when you initially burn a candle, you’re supposed to let it burn so that the wax pool reaches from edge to edge. This ensures an even burn so there’s no tunnelling and so that there’s less wasted wax.
However, since I was strictly adhering to the ‘up to 2 hours’ instructions, my wax pool didn’t have enough time to reach the edge. That being said, on each separate occasion I burned the candle, I’ve noticed that there’s less and less ‘canyoning’ as the wax melts outwards to the edges.
Packaging
The packaging is interesting because it’s housed in a glass jar with a tapered opening. And it comes with a lid that reminds me of the kind people use to hermetically seal jams and other fruit preserves.
I really like the label on the front because it’s crazy. It depicts a farmer holding a pitchfork and holding a jack o’lantern while standing in a patch with other jack o’lanterns. The farmer even has the nerve to put his right foot on the head of one. (Where are your manners, Farmer Joe?) π
Then, on the left, there’s an orange silhouette of a haunted mansion and a twisted tree. Love it! There are even bats in the sky.
Seasonal Availability
This is a fall scent, so if you’re able to find it at Winners or elsewhere, snatch it up before it’s gone!
Also, the label says that Pumpkin Patch is a “spiced pumpkin & harvest swirl candle”. When I posted a quick photo of the candle on Instagram and Twitter, one of my readers mentioned that those two scents were her favourites. So, you can get those two fragrances as individual candles, but this one combines them. That’s a pretty neat idea.

Final Verdict: 8/10
What a yummy-smelling candle. If you love sweet scents and the way a pumpkin pie smells like when it comes out of the oven, this is it!
Now that I’ve tried my first Yankee Candle, I’m curious to try more. And one day, I want to visit the Yankee Candle store. Apparently they’ve opened up a few in Canada! It would be neat to see a store full of candles from floor to ceiling in hundreds of different scents. That alone is an experience!
Have you tried any Yankee Candles? Which scents would you recommend to me? (I tend to like sweet bakery scents like cupcakes, caramel, and pumpkin pie.
Yay, I’m glad you liked it Mary!! I do find that the regular one-wick Yankees aren’t quite as strong as te 3-wick Slatkins but Yankee does have a lot of fragrances in a 2-wick version that are perfect for large spaces!!

Hey Jacqui!
Okay, that’s good to know that the Yankee Candle 2-wicks have a stronger scent throw. One of these days, I need to go to the new Canadian store and find out what heaven’s like…and more importantly, what it smells like. π
Yankee Candles are the best! My mom got this one recently and it’s nice. Although we find their original ones have a stronger smell. If you want your candle to burn evenly, there are these metal toppers for them. They cover the top part and leave a hole for the wick. It does help to burn more evenly.
MemoriesOfTimesPast
Hey Nieszka!
Which scent did you and your mom try? And which of the original scents that are stronger would you suggest for me to try? (I like a lot of sweet bakery type of scents, but I also like spicy fall fragrances.)
Thanks for letting me know about those metal covers. I didn’t even know they sold them. (So new to the world of Yankee Candle!) π
Oh and I haven’t tried too many but I love the french vanilla!
Hey Nieszka!
I’ll need to sniff that one. Think I saw it at Home Outfitters one time. (They carry a small selection of Yankee Candles, but I want to experience the wall-to-wall candle store!)
Yes they do have some at home outfitters, but I do suggest that you visit the Yankee candle store, you will be there for hours lol. My mom got the Pumpkin one you reviewed here as well as Tulips and a Beachy kind. I love the sweet ones though. My favorite is the French Vanilla. I think there is a yummy Cupcake one too. The metal covers should be sold in the Yankee candle stores. Happy shopping π
Oh, I have no doubt that I’d spend hours at that store. I’ve seen photos of the inside of that store, and the first time, my jaw dropped. (I picked it back up off the ground, though, so nobody would trip on it.) π
Cupcake? CUPCAKE? I love those kind of sweet bakery scents! I’ll have to give that one a snifferoo if I can find it.
I love Yankee Candle. I have to confess, I love my Beach Walk candle so much that when I moved into a place of my own, I themed the bathroom after it (nautical and different shades of blue). I love their car fresheners, too!
Hey Kayla!
Wow, now that’s true love! π That candle must be out of this world to have inspired you so much!
Oooo Autumn is my favorite time of anything! The weather, candle and bath scents, warm drinks π I stocked up on my last trip to B&BW. I love yankee candle too, but they tend to be much more expensive and don’t have as good deals as the Slatkin & Co candles. Another candle company that I discovered a few months ago that I love is Kringle Candles. They are located in deerfield Massachusetts right near Yankee Candle. They’re affiliated with each other because the son of Yankee Candle created Kringle Candle a few years ago. Just a little bit of info for ya π Highly suggest “watercolors” and “pancake breakfast” they have TONS more that I’ve never tried yet.

Hey Frosso!
Autumn really is the best! For many years, I was a summer fan, but I’ve changed my mind in the past few years. There’s Hallowe’en, spicy candle scents, sweater dresses, knee-high boots, tights, etc. LOVE!
Interesting – I’ve never even heard of Kringle Candles before. Thanks for the cool tidbit! π “Pancake Breakfast” – what a fun name for a candle!
I’m not a huge fan of eating pumpkin-flavored food items, which is funny because I really really like all things pumpkin-scented in the fall. Also love the Yankee Candle brand–my family usually stocks up on a lot when they’re on sale and then we burn them throughout the year. They also sell all sorts of fun candle accessories, like themed holiday tart warmers and such. Yankee Candle stores are like little fragrance heavens :). I can’t remember any specific gourmand fragrances off the top of my head, but I do remember that Yankee Candle has quite a few ;).
Right after leaving this comment I was curious so I went and looked up the Yankee Candle website. Boy, some of these fragrance names are making me hungry.
Yeah, tell me about it! π There are some candles I’ve tried (not Yankee Candle…YET) that smell so similar to real food that I had to remind myself that it’s WAX!
Hey Jessica!
Oh my gosh! Hold the polish! You’re NOT a fan of eating pumpkin-flavoured food? Hahahaha, I can’t imagine a world without pumpkin pie! Hmm…is it the texture or the taste that you don’t care for? What if there’s a lot of spice mixed in? Would that be better?
Hahaha, yeah, the label is totally crazy. I love it. And I do like Yankee candles, although I’ve been on more of a Slatkin & Co kick for the last while. I adore pumpkin-y scents, though, so maybe I’ll pick this up if I see it. As an aside, I love when you review candles! π

Hey The Lacquer Tracker!
Slatkin & Co. candles are amazzzzing! Their fall candles are always my favourite – they kill it!
I’m so happy to hear that you enjoy my candle reviews. π Haha, a lot of times when I do, I don’t get too many comments, so I was under the impression that not many people liked them. But this post seemed to start the conversation, which made me really happy! Maybe it’s because a lot of others are also really looking forward to autumn like I am!
P.S. More candle reviews to come! π Got a bunch of new Slatkin & Co. ones that I need to try out more before reviewing.
I hope the new Pumpkin Cupcake is one of the new candles you have for review! I want that one badly, but I waffled so long on the 2 for $20 deal that I missed it. I wish shipping wasn’t so darn expensive! (There’s no Bath and Body Works in my city).

YES – that was one of the candles I was most interested in trying. Haven’t burned it yet, but after I’ve used it a few times, I’ll be sure to let you know what I think. π It literally combines my two favourite type of candle scents. Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin and Frosted Cupcake are two of my favourite Slatkin & Co. candles.
Shipping is expensive to Canada, I agree, but I still sometimes order online because my local store doesn’t always get everything or it sells out really fast. This time, I placed the order because I found a 30% off coupon code, and that pretty much balanced out the shipping cost. Plus our Canadian dollar is pretty strong right now. π
True! For once it’s a good thing about the dollar when it comes to ordering online. I actually just placed an order over the weekend (2 for $20 was on again) and got Pumpkin Cupcake and a bunch of others! Can’t wait. π
The Lacquer Tracker recently posted: Illamasqua Creator – A damn fine lacquer
Woo hoo! Hope you really like Pumpkin Cupcake. I’m actually still waiting for my order to arrive. The first candle I want to burn is Pumpkin Cupcake. Been curious about it since I heard it was coming out. π And all my local Bath & Body Works stores didn’t have it in yet, so I just ordered online.
I also picked up Autumn, French Baguette (mmm, I love bakery scents), and Nutmeg and Spice (from White Barn). Can’t wait to try them! π
The Lacquer Tracker recently posted: F4 Mint Chocolate Chip
Hehe, I was just telling my co-workers about the French Baguette candle. One of them said it was dangerous because then it’d make her want to eat tons of French baguettes!
Yay! I’m so happy you enjoyed this! Too bad about the scent reach, but it was the only pumpkin one they had so I took a chance that you’d like it anyway. π
I love me some Yankee Candle! Thankfully, my local Winners has been pulling through for me so I’ve been stocking up every time the hubby and I find a scent we like. So far, our favourites include the Danish Butter Cookie and South African Vineyard. Both are discontinued LE scents tho so we’re always on the look out for new ones. π Really excited to try my new Slatkin & Co candles tho!

Hey Carmela!
It’s still great in a small room. Soooo yummy! Love pumpkin-and-spice scents. Could never get sick of ’em! Thanks again for surprising me with this great find! π
I’m looking forward to hearing what you think about the Slatkin & Co. candles. They’re definitely my favourite (and most-bought) candle brand. (Hehe, today I went to Bath & Body Works to ‘just browse’. They had the candles on sale, 2 for $25 CAD, but I had to resist the urge.)
You are right about wick size affecting the scent throw. I make candles. π If the wick is a bit too small for the jar being used, then the scent throw won’t be as strong as if it had a proper sized wick. An oversized wick, while it would give a great scent throw, would be a danger as it could cause the jar to break. Do you use just candles or do you use tarts as well?
Angela recently posted: Introducing Buddy and Elsie
Hey Angela!
How fun that you make candles! π What is your favourite one that you’ve made so far? Where do you purchase your supplies?
Currently I mainly use candles, although I briefly branched out into trying fragrance oils (the ones from Bath & Body Works). Hehe, most of my home fragrance is from Bath & Body Works. But I’ve been curious about trying tarts. Which company’s tarts would you recommend? I’ve wanted to try Candles by Victoria, but the shipping rates to Canada are insanely high, so I don’t think that’s an option right now. But I know that Yankee Candle has tons of tarts…hmm…
