China Glaze No Plain Jane from the New Bohemian Collection is the purple that I was curious about trying because it looked like it had some gold in the bottle.
As you may remember me mentioning before, my first love was purple. It was only after I purchased nearly every shade of purple I could get my hands on that I started dabbling with greens.
Surprisingly, I don’t actually have any purples that look exactly like No Plain Jane.

China Glaze No Plain Jane Review
Colour
No Plain Jane by China Glaze is a purple polish most times when I looked at it, but at certain angles, I thought I could see a little bit of gold. I had to look at my nails in weird angles, though. I think it’s this gold that gives the purple an overall hazy look.
And although my swatches didn’t capture it, you can see a bit of pink mixed in with the purple in person.
Finish
This has a lustre-chrome finish and a very slight duochrome finish. You can see a lot of brush strokes because of the metallic finish.
Application & Formula
The first coat was somewhat sheer, but it built up quickly with a second coat. I also found the formula to be watery, so be careful not to load up your brush too much, or you may flood your cuticles. Also, I suggest trying to apply thin layers because the thicker you apply this polish, the higher your chances of getting bubbles.

Final Verdict: 6.5/10
China Glaze No Plain Jane is okay, but it’s not my favourite purple nail polish to sport. I wish the duochrome was more prominent!
Have you tried No Plain Jane? What was your favourite and least favourite in the China Glaze New Bohemian Collection?
I really wish this collection was more duochrome. A metallic true duochrome finish would have been amazing!

Hey The Lacquered Lady!
Unpredictable and Rare & Radiant were the strongest duochromes in the collection, and I love them. But, No Plain Jane didn’t quite wow me as much as those. Who knows? Maybe they’ll try to one-up this later. China Glaze usually doesn’t shy away from colour and variety.
I did not pick up any of these despite a Sally’s I was in had all but the teal one in the day I was there. I looked at them – had seen some photos/review of them looking better in bottle than on the nail. I was skeptical about the lack of duochrome on the nail as well as am careful if it looks too frosty as these do in bottle then I don’t think I will get a real chrome but more a frost. I really hate frosts. I saw your photos and felt lament until I got to the part of your write up you talked about the brush strokes. I always kind of get a funny feeling when I pass by on some collection, wondering if this is going to be one that hits late in the release and I will find I missed something as popular as say the CG OMG’s.
Hey beachgal!
Haha, not to worry – this collection was NOT on par with the OMG Collection’s WOW Factor. 😉 And, yes, if you hate frosts, the brush strokes in these may drive you crazy. Plus out of all the shades in this collection, No Plain Jane takes a back seat.
Mary, you did a great job capturing the subtle duochrome in this one. I bought it on a whim after laying eyes on the bottle… but it is kind of like meeting a foul-mouthed-handsome-boy (in my pre-marriage days). Looks great on the inside but once the cap/mouth opens it is a deal breaker… on the nail this shade disappointed me 🙁 sad to say (I rarely, if ever, say that about China Glaze)

Hey Marta!
Thank you! 🙂 This polish was tricky for me to photograph – it seemed to have a hazy glaze on the top, which my camera didn’t like.
I know how you feel. From the bottle colour, I thought this colour was going to be so much better! You live and learn…or you swatch and learn. 😉
