Orly Rococo A-Go-Go Swatches & Review

Orly Rococo A-Go-Go Swatches & Review Ever since the Orly Mineral FX Collection came out, I had my eyes onΒ Orly Rococo A-Go-Go.

But, at the time, money was tighter than hipster pants accidentally thrown into the dryer on high heat…soooo…I didn’t get it. And I put my eyes back into their sockets.

After several months, this bad boy is now mine, and he certainly was worth the wait!

A purple like this makes your heart race and your pupils dilate. Is it love or lust? Probably both! πŸ˜‰

I don’t really get the name of the polish, though. When I think of it, I picture a go-go dancer. And ‘Rococo’ reminds me of Rocco, this dude my best friend had a crush on in elementary school. So whenever I see the name Rococo A-Go-Go, I always get a mental picture of Rocco as a go-go dancer, and it makes me laugh!

Orly Rococo A-Go-Go Review

Colour

Rococo A-Go-Go is like a magician’s cloak. It’s a rich purple that has eggplant leanings, but you can also see magenta and some red. Depending on the angle, you can sometimes see orange, but it’s pretty rare and it’s only in a certain type of dim lighting that I was able to see it. The orange isn’t as prominent on your nail as it looks in the bottle.

It’s a very sexy polish that I think a lot of you will be liking more in the fall.

As for myself, though, I’ve already fallen for it. I just can’t help being swayed by these Nail Polish Romeos. πŸ˜‰

Finish

Rococo A-Go-Go by Orly has a micro-glitter or micro-shimmer finish. Β (It’s hard for me to tell.) It’s larger than just plain shimmer, but it’s not big like traditional glitter.

The finish helps this polish catch the light and come to life!

Application & Formula

As with most Orly nail polishes, this one applied like a dream involving David Beckham. πŸ˜‰ Yup,Β thatΒ perfect!

With a single coat, you’ll get plenty of coverage, but I suggest using two coats to full opacity and to even everything out.

The formula is great because the polish flows onto the nail with ease and works so well with the Orly brush. The only reason my manicure isn’t perfect-looking is because of my own human error. The formula is perfect!

Pros

  • Interesting purple-eggplant polish with orange, magenta & gold depending on the light & angle
  • Perfect formula is easy to work with
  • Polish catches the light due to the micro-glitter/micro-shimmer
Cons

  • This Orly can be a little trickier to find (but it’s worth tracking down)

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

This is one of those colours you wear that you can’t stop looking at when the sunlight hits it. In person, it’s way better than my photos would suggest. To me, this is one of the must-have purples in my collection. Haha, it’s too bad that I already published my blog post on My Top 5 Favourite Purples. This oneΒ mayΒ have squeaked in…although I’m not sure which other colour it would’ve kicked off the list!

Have you worn any of the colours from the Orly Mineral FX Collection? What are the criteria that make a polish a must-have for you?

P.S. Can you believe that it’s already the end of July? I can’t! (Fellow Canadians, if you haven’t yet, please enter my OPI Germany Collection giveaway. It ends tonight at 11:59 pm Eastern!)

I love the “fire” this polish has in the bottle. I have a mini Orly and the formula is so great with it πŸ™‚
I am attracted to everything purple (and by “everything” I mean EVERYTHING) and this.. this one makes my heart do little flutters πŸ˜€
I will have to add this one to my wishlist πŸ˜€
And no, I can’t believe it’s the end of July already! It’s CRAZY how fast this year is going πŸ™

      Hey Erica!

Yeah, it totally feels like we blinked our eyes and then it was already July. Now I have to keep my eyes open for the rest of the year. πŸ˜‰ Oh no! I winked! Is it Hallowe’en? Hehehehhehe! (Wishful thinking on my part.)

I love dark purples! I have easy access to the regular ORLY line (and Quo by ORLY) but the special editions can be tricky to find in stores, I JUST got my hands on a bottle of Space Cadet after looking for months. Looks like I have a new colour to hunt for!

Also, I’m excited for the draw tonight!

      Hey Alicia!

Me, too! Being able to give away all 12 bottles of the OPI Germany Collection is as good as getting them myself because I just know the winner will be screaming at the top of her/his lungs. (I think it’ll be a her. I can’t remember any men/boys entering the contest this time around.)

Lucky that you have easy access to Orly polishes. The only reliable place near me is Sally Beauty Supply, but that’s out of my way. Quo by Orly, though, I can find quite easily at my local Shoppers. πŸ™‚

Hey! I just found your old post on the quo orly mini set! I was googling for info on the quality of the quo vs. regular orly and came across the mini post.
I eye that baby up every time I’m at shoppers! I’m so close in optimum points!
Are you still enjoying it? I have the full size of Celestial Star, but that still leaves 17 new ones to try!

Oh, I saw that there’s a NEW Quo by Orly mini set at Shoppers. The one I got is from Christmas. I almost got the new one, but I’m also waiting to collect more Optimum points before I redeem them. πŸ™‚

And, yes, I’m still enjoying the mini set. I really like have a ‘buffet’ of colours to choose from. Plus the little bottles are adorable.

This is such a pretty purple! It’s so shiny and shimmery and I wish I had it! I can’t believe today’s the last day of July. Summer’s halfway over! πŸ™

      Hey maddy!

Crazy how summer’s half over, but actually, my favourite season has changed from summer to the fall. I have to say that the makeup and fashion in the fall trumps all other seasons for me. And Hallowe’en is my favourite holiday! πŸ™‚

From what you’ve told me in your previous comments, it seems like you’ve been making the most of your summer, so at least it was packed with fun, family, and friends. πŸ™‚

Oh I saw this bottle in Ulta and got intimidated by the gold glitters. I want a purple nail polish not a flashy gold purple disco ball o.o I’m so surprised it looks shimmery and sexy on the nail. Hopefully the local Ulta restocked when I go back.

Actually, a gold purple disco ball sounds right up my alley! Hehehehe, where can I get it? *Drools* πŸ˜‰

Gorgeous, gorgeous color-really looks wonderful on your nails. I suppose it was named Rococo (why the A-go-go though!?) because of the richness of the color-after all Rococo is an 18th century art and decorative style that was very rich and ornate.

      Hey Marta!

Thanks so much! πŸ™‚ And thanks for explaining the Rococo part – I had no idea about that. Now it makes much more sense…although I still think about Rocco as a go-go dancer. πŸ˜‰

This shade is beautiful! and seeing your pictures makes me hold my head in shame that its an untried for me! Same as you I was super broke when FXs came out, so I limited my-self to the purple (of course!) . This may be the kick in the-you-know-what I needed πŸ™‚ Great swatches Mary!
