OPI The Color of Minnie Swatches & Review

OPI The Color of Minnie Swatches & ReviewIt’s a rare thing when I feel the itch to wear a red nail polish. And usually I ‘scratch’ the itch near Christmas because it’s festive.

This time, I couldn’t hold back.

I scratched the itch with OPI The Color of Minnie from the limited-edition OPI Vintage Minnie Mouse Collection that officially drops in June.

When I first glanced at the bottle, I thought this would be a standard red creme polish, but upon closer inspection, it whispered a secret.

Allow me to go into further detail about this polish.

OPI The Color of Minnie Review

Colour

The Color of Minnie by OPI is what I would describe as a tomato red because it looks like an orange-based red rather than a stop-sign kind of red. For that reason, I don’t feel like this colour pops as much on my skin tone as the latter kind.

There’s extremely subtle fine pink shimmer running throughout. I feel like this also mutes the intensity of this red a bit. Most times when you’re wearing it, you may not really even notice the pink, but sometimes it comes through.

Finish

To me, this polish looks like it has a slight pearly finish because when you look closely, you can see a few brushstrokes – nothing major, though.

Have you ever had ribbon candy? You know how it’s a bit pearly? This polish reminds me exactly of that!

Application & Formula

While the polish flowed effortlessly onto the nail and was easy to control, the formula was on the sheer side. Even with 3 coats, my manicure still had VNL (Visible Nail Line). It didn’t bother me too much, but I thought I should mention it because it could be a pet peeve for others.

Perhaps you can add 4 coats or layer this polish, but I didn’t bother going the extra mile because, well, the colour didn’t excite me. For colours that are just ‘okay’, I rarely put in the extra effort. Lazzzzyyy. πŸ˜›

Pros

  • Easy-to-apply formula
  • Has subtle fine pink shimmer
Cons

  • Sheer formula still shows VNL even after using 3 coats

Final Verdict: 5.5/10

The Color of Minnie by OPI is nice, but it’s very forgettable. I’m not the biggest fan of red, pearly nail polishes, especially when they show VNL after 3 coats.

If you’re a fan of red nail polish, you might like it, but I wouldn’t recommend this if you’re interested in a red that makes some waves. When I wear red, I like it to be loud and sexy. This one is subdued and demure. It just ain’t my thang.

What sorts of reds do you sport the most? What’s the sexiest polish you’ve worn? Do you think that this polish truly represents the colour of Minnie Mouse?

Thank You, once again you have helped me decide to buy a color. I’m not much on reds, but I do like this one. I think it would look nice with Nothin’ Mousie β€˜Bout It or Pirouette My Whistle over top. I love glitter polishes. I will also be buying I’m All Ears because of your swatches. It really helps me decide to buy a color when I see it on a nail and not just in the bottle. Thank You very much and keep up your great work! :~)

      Hey Melissa!

You’re very welcome. I’m glad that you seem to like this one even more than I do and have already thought up ways to layer over it to create pretty manicures. πŸ™‚

      Thanks for your encouragement!

Say what you please, but your nails are all sorts of FIERCE in red! I wish that every time I wore a red my nails would magically transform into yours πŸ™‚
I don’t wear reds often, but I do sport them on nubbins. I tend to go for cream finish shades that are vivid… Like Zoya Sooki and OPI Red Lights Ahead…Where?

Since you said this reminded you of ribbon candy, maybe it would make a nice base for some Christmas nail art! I do see some of the pearly finish in your pictures–it looks nice. All of that pigmentation in the color looks like it might stain cuticles, though–if you’ve removed the polish already, did you have any issues with staining?

      Hey Jessica!

Yes, it would be cute as a base colour. πŸ™‚ I can picture that!

I already removed the polish (wore it for about 3 days), and it didn’t stain my nails at all. I used Seche Clear Crystal Clear Base Coat underneath and applied a generous coat to each nail, so that most likely helped.

I’m with Marta. This looks stunning on you! Heck, I didn’t even notice the VNL till you pointed it out; I was too intent on trying to make out the pink shimmer! πŸ˜› I honestly don’t know why they did this pearly tomato red for the Minnie Mouse collection. I mean, I can see why they chose a tomato red, but to be honest, I would’ve liked a tomato red jelly that echoes Vodka & Caviar with white hex and fine glitter. Now THAT would be more Minnie Mouse-ish.

      Hey Carmela!

Thank you! πŸ˜€ Haha, when I wore this, I really wasn’t blown away, but now after reading the comments here, I may have to try it again to see if I ‘feel it’ this time around.
