Wet n Wild Color Icon On Cloud Nine is one of the many Wet n Wild Color Icon eye-shadow trios that beauty lovers talked about since hitting the market. Not only do these shadows offer great pigmentation, but the price is right, Bob Barker!

In Canada, I think these are mainly available at Wal-Mart. In the States, there are a few drugstores where you can find them at.

Since I rarely shop at Wal-Mart, I probably wouldn’t have been able to try it out if not for my thoughtful friend, Carmela from Polished Indulgence! (Thank you!) We did a little swap of sorts quite some time ago, and it was a lot of fun! 🙂

You know, this is the first Wet n Wild product that I’ve used since high school. The brand really has come a long way since then.

Before, I used to buy their $0.99 eyeliners and nail polishes. They were okay, but nothing to write home about. (Although, there was this one dark blue polish I used to put silver glitter on top of, and it looked like a starry night sky. I loved it so much!)

Today, the brand boasts fantastic shadows that perform surprisingly well when compared to their pricier competitors.

Wet n Wild On Cloud Nine Review

Colours

If you’re not a fan of blue, On Cloud Nine is clearly the wrong palette for you! It’s “True blue, baby! I love you!” (Yup, that’s an intentional early Madonna reference.)

While I tend to wear green or gray eye shadow most days, when I stray, I like to wear blues and turquoises.

On Cloud Nine has a medium blue, a brown, and a light blue:

• Medium Blue – Reminds me of denim & has a shimmery, frosty finish
• Brown – Looks like chocolate with sparse silver glitter
• Light Blue – Has a frosty feel like something the Snow Queen would wear

Pigmentation & Formula

They apply smoothly and feel soft. All 3 colours are highly pigmented, but they do pop more when used over an eye-shadow primer, of course.

(In all the swatches above that had primer underneath, I used the NYX HD High Definition Eye Shadow Base, in case you were wondering. I used a different primer when I wore the shadows on my eyes. I’ll go into detail shortly.)

Lasting Power

You get the most colour impact immediately when you apply them onto your eyelid, however, even with my Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Greed underneath, I still noticed some fading after the 6-hour mark with the medium blue. (It became noticeably muddier. The other two colours faded a bit, but didn’t look muddier.)

These days I don’t wear eye shadow without a primer underneath, but I made an exception when I tested out On Cloud Nine. For a couple of days, I wore the colours without a primer underneath since one of the claims is that it won’t crease all day.

My eyelids get oily throughout the day (hence why I need the primer), so I wasn’t expecting these shadows to resist creasing. (That’d be like Mary resisting green nail polish or weird nail art.) 😉

And…I wasn’t proven wrong, sadly. These shadows creased just like any other powder eye shadow that I’d wear without a primer.

Packaging

The packaging is terrific! It’s compact, sleek, clearly labelled with the palette name, and the lid opens easily.

It comes with 2 applicators – one is a sponge tip (which I actually use to pack on the shadow prior to blending out), and the other is a slanted brush (which I don’t use because I like using my Sigma E25 Blending Brush afterwards).

For beginners, it’s nice how the shadows themselves are each engraved to remind you where to place the colours to achieve a suggested look – i.e. “Browbone”, “Crease”, and “Eyelid”.

That being said, you can use colours anywhere you want, although, I’d recommend not using the brown on your browbone, unless you’re going for an avant-garde look. 😉 If you are, then more power to ya!

I don’t like using the light blue on my browbone because it’s super frosty, and whenever I put shades like that there, I look in the mirror and immediately think, “Good Lord! I look like a drag queen!” (Nothing wrong with drag queens, but…I’m not one, so I don’t want to look like one, thanks!) 😛

Instead, I place the light blue along the inner third of my eyelid. I then put the medium blue on the outer 2 thirds of my eyelid and deepen up the crease with the brown. And usually I really want to smoke it up, so I add a bit of black to the corner.

I was really impressed that On Cloud Nine was pigmented and so smooth considering the extremely low price point! This is great news for those who want to experiment with new colours, but don’t conveniently have a tree in their backyard that grows money. (For those of you who have such a plant, please share the nursery you bought it from with me!) 😉
