Butter London Bossy Boots Swatches & Review

Butter London Bossy Boots Swatches & ReviewSometimes I feel like I’m the only one who isn’t into tea. Sure, I’m a big fan of iced tea, but any other kind of tea just doesn’t do a thing for me.

I’ll sometimes drink lemon and honey tea when my throat’s sore. If I go to a Chinese restaurant, I’ll drink Oolong tea. And, once, I tried strawberry tea. (It smelled more incredible than it tasted.)

Despite trying all sorts of tea, I’ve never found one that made me want to drink it more (except iced tea).

All of this sounds pretty random, but what got me going off on a tangent is that Butter London Bossy Boots from the Spring Summer 2012 Collection immediately made me think of green-tea ice cream. (Ever try it? I’m not a fan of the flavour. Big surprise, right? :P)

Butter London Bossy Boots is an interesting pale green that I like, but it isn’t love. I think it would look better on a different skin tone – either richer or lighter. What do you think?

Butter London Bossy Boots Review

Colour

You know that I love all sorts of green nail polish, so when NailPolishCanada.com asked me to pick any 2 polishes from the Butter London Spring/Summer 2012 Collection, I went for Bossy Boots. (My other choice was Trout Pout.)

This is an anemic green. Think of a robust green polish that hit the gym for 5 hours, went rollerblading afterwards, and then had to fight off a bottle of 100% acetone. 😉 Hehe! This is the green that fainted!

Bossy Boots by Butter London is a dustier version of mint green that’s a great neutral alternative for those who shy away from vivid greens.

To give you a better idea of the colour, Bossy Boots is ‘dirtier’ and more yellow compared to OPI Gargantuan Green Grape. But Bossy Boots is fresher and a brighter green than OPI Stranger Tides.

I do like this colour, but I feel like it’s not the best for my skin tone. If my skin was richer or lighter, I think it would look much better.

Finish

Bossy Boots by Butter London has a creme finish, which means it’s very easy to remove. Yay! 🙂

Application & Formula

The formula was nice and pigmented. One coat covered well, although you definitely need at least 2 coats to achieve full opacity. The coverage was perfect at 2, so that’s where I stopped.

The polish itself goes where you want it to. The consistency is thick, but not goopy like dried glue, so you can control it.

Win Butter London’s Spring/Summer 2012 Collection

If you go to NailPolishCanada.com’s Butter London section, you can enter their contest to win the entire Butter London Spring/Summer 2012 Collection ($85 CAD value)! I’m not sure when it ends, so hurry to get your entry in!

Pros

  • Pale green that’s a nice alternative to typical neutral polishes
  • Formula is pigmented with 2 coats
Cons

  • Pricey

Final Verdict: 7/10

I don’t have too many light-green polishes like this in my collection, so I’m very happy to have it. I think it would also make a great base colour for nail art. 🙂

When you reach for a green polish, what kind is it usually? Glitter? Duochrome? Dark? Light? What was the last neutral nail polish you wore?

A stop by Walgreens the other day yielded a bottle of Essie’s Navigate Her from the spring 2012 collection (not my fault…it jumped into my hand and demanded to go home with me) and this green looks a lot like it.

I drool over Butter polishes because just the name sounds dreamy and smooth, but the price is outside my comfort zone. That said, it actually looks quite nice on you. 😀

      Hey karen!

Haha, I’m going to have to use that explanation sometime soon. “Hey, it’s not my fault. The polish jumped into my hand. What was I supposed to do? I couldn’t abandon it. What kind of nailphile would I be, anyway?” 😉

      Hey MariJo!

But you looooove ice cream! Hehehe… 😉 You must try it and let me know what you think. I didn’t like it, but only because of my feelings for tea in general. I’m curious to know what you think of it.

      Hey Marcela!

Thanks! 🙂 Wow, I didn’t think it went with my skin tone, but a few lovely readers are saying otherwise. Interesting! 🙂 Maybe I need to get my eyes checked.

Your post is very thorough–LOVE that! I have this color, but I haven’t tried it yet; it reminds me of pistachios, which I really love the color of, but I’m allergic to.
It does seem like everybody’s into (hot) tea, but it does nothing for me, either. On the other hand, I adore iced tea, especially mango, peach, mint and herbal varieties. The only exception for hot tea would be Celestial Seasonings Candy Cane tea, which is delicious hot–tastes like a butter mint! How can anybody drink TEA instead of COFFEE in the morning?!

      Hey GenaCA!

Glad that you enjoyed this post. 🙂 I do try to be as thorough as I can to give people a better idea of what to expect. So it’s nice to hear that you appreciate it! YAY!

Aww…it’s too bad that you’re allergic to pistachios – they’re so yummy! But at least there are other delicious nuts out there…like macadamia – the king of nuts!

Okay, so I’m not the only person who isn’t big on tea. 🙂 And I agree – I’d rather have coffee in the morning instead of tea.

I usually reach for a glitter or shimmer green… and it’s never a super light or pastel green (because I typically don’t reach for light or pastel polish in any color).

Right now I have China Glaze Agro on! 🙂

I love green polishes, but unfortunately some of the lighter colours make me look like I have corpse hands. The colour brings out the purple in my nails beds- it is not pretty. That usually does not stop me from wearing the polish. I just hope no one hits me in the head with a shovel because they mistake me for a zombie.

      Hey Stella!

I know what you mean. Haha, maybe this sounds weird, but sometimes I dig the ‘corpse hand’ look. 😛 When I wore OPI Tickle My France-y, I remember my mom made a crack about how my hands look like they belong to a zombie. That only made me like the colour even more!

Green tea ice cream, yummy! This actually had me thinking pistachio ice cream but it’s all ice cream and I’ve never encountered one I didn’t like. 😛 As for tea, have you tried iced tea with pandan leaves? I had some at a Thai place and it’s pretty awesome!

You wear this green so well! I never would have picked it just because it leans more yellow than I like and you know how me and yellow don’t really see eye to eye. 😉 I usually reach for the vampies when I want a green. Nars Zulu is still my top pick for green. Jelly + vampy = Carmela swoon. 😀

      Hey Carmela!

Do you like pistachio ice cream? I’ve never tried it before. And now I feel like it’s something I need to do…like right now!

Nope, I’ve never tried iced tea with pandan leaves. At least I don’t think I have. How does it taste different than the standard fare?

Really? You think I wear this well? I thought that I wasn’t doing this green any justice with my skin tone. I think I need a new prescription for my eyeglasses. :S Or maybe I need new eyes. Does anybody want to donate a pair? Heheheh…

I bought this one too because I need some light greens that are not chalky. Thought this had enough yellow in it that it would look OK but it just brings out a ton of ruddiness in my hands. Oddly I piked up all but 1 in this Butter collection. I never buy that much from Butter usually. Like maybe only 2 a year if that.

Sounds like you really liked this collection! 🙂 Trout Pout is still my favourite over Bossy Boots. I know I’ll be wearing Trout Pout again.

I bought a bunch of Butter London polishes when they were buy 2 get 1 free at Ulta a while ago, and I liked them well enough, but they weren’t so amazing that I would buy more at regular price. When a polish is on the pricey side, I expect more from it…not just nicer packaging and brand. I will probably buy more when they are on sale because I don’t see myself paying full price unless the color is just so unique that I have to have it. Having said all that, I do like this color but there are plenty of similar colors out there at a lower price point.

      Hey lacquerloon!

How awesome is that Ulta deal? I wish Canadians got cool deals like that more often. But then I’d probably be so broke.

I agree with you – when I pay more for a polish, I expect the polish to really knock it out of the park. For example, I had trouble justifying the huge splurge that was Chanel Peridot, but it was such a special colour, so I felt okay about it afterwards.

      Hey Karen!

Aww…thank you! While I liked the colour, I felt like I didn’t do it justice, though. When I wear it again, I’ll have to experiment with nail stamping…or some kind of nail art.

Haha, sorry for making you feel weak. 😉

This shade actually reminds me of green tea (and considering you like Ice tea… have you ever tried Starbucks green tea ice tea?… soooo yummy and not too pricey).
Anywho, I adore this “anemic green”… it is right up my alley…

I used to think that I was mostly into glitters/shimmers, though now I can honestly say that cream shades are my favourite… I love them plain AND can always add glitter/flakies over them right 😀

      Hey Marta!

No, I’ve never tried the Starbucks one. If it’s sweet, I’m so there! Sadly, I’m not into the ‘natural’ iced teas, even if they’re actually how iced teas are supposed to be.

We have beautiful nail swatches and I’m chatting up a storm about iced tea… lol
If you get the cold teas you can ask for it to be sweetened… a ginormous size is around 2.00 so not too bad on the wallet either! 😀

What would you say your skin tone is? I’m trying to figure out if it would work for me or if it would just my fingernails look sickly. 🙁

      Hey Anne!

I’d say that my skin tone is a warm, light beige with yellow undertones. Hmm…I think that people who have pinkish undertones may find Bossy Boots harder to wear because the green may pull out more of the pink and leave them with Lobster Hands.
