Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid Swatches & Review

Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid Swatches & ReviewHaha, if you saw yesterday’s Smorgasbord Sundays post, you got to giggle over some fun swatches of Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid on a guy!

I sported this awesome grayish purple polish a couple of weeks ago, but after he made the debut swatches, I had to follow up with these. 😉

This polish is tricky to capture accurately on camera because even in person, it changes a bit. If you take the colour in my flash photos and natural-light photos, the real colour is a cross between the two.

(Funny thing: The colour in my Smorgasbord Sundays post is pretty accurate, and it was done with the camera’s flash.)

Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid Review

Colour

My Kind of Cool Aid by Cult Nails is a purplish gray that’s simple, chic, and anything but boring.

While I normally go for loud nail polishes, when I opt for the subtle variety, this is the kind I like to reach for because it’s classy and easy-to-wear.

The interesting thing about My Kind of Cool Aid is that sometimes it looks like a light gray with a dash of purple, but other times, it looks like a purple polish with a dash of gray. Shades like this that morph slightly and play tricks on your eyes are the ones that keep my interest.

Finish

My Kind of Cool Aid by Cult Nails is described as a creme polish with a hint of shimmer, and I think that’s accurate.

Overall, it looks like a creme polish, but when your nails catch the light at a certain angle, that’s when you’ll see the silvery shimmer peek through like sugar on cookies.

Application & Formula

The formula on this was extremely pigmented, but to get even coverage, I had to use 2 coats. A single coat, however, nearly covered the entire nail.

It was easy to work with, and it’s also easy painting other people’s nails with this. Hehe! (If you missed yesterday’s Smorgasbord Sundays post, check it out for a laugh.)

Pros

  • Highly pigmented
  • Subtle shimmer adds life to this polish
  • Great formula
  • Colour sometimes looks more gray or more purple depending on the light
Cons

  • Can only be ordered online

Final Verdict: 8/10

My Kind of Cool Aid by Cult Nails is a sophisticated muted colour that I feel is easy to wear and that keeps your nails looking well-groomed without adding a jolt of crazy colour.

While Cult Nails Unicorn Puke (Clairvoyant) is still my favourite polish that the company has ever released, My Kind of Cool Aid is still very, verrrrry nice! 🙂

What’s on your nails today? Do you like purplish-gray polishes? What’s your favourite dusty/muted nail polish?

ok, i have a question, how do you get your nail polish to look so good around your cuticles. I’m sure there is a trick and I would love to know what it is.

Thanks for all your inspiration and product info.

      Hey Kay!

Wow, thank you for the high compliment! *Beams brightly* 😀

Some people touch up their manicures by using remover-soaked Q-tips, but I don’t. I just paint my nails the best I can. If I get some on my skin, I just wait until I take a shower, and the polish on the skin comes right off. Haha, I really don’t have any secrets except for practice, practice, practice.

When you’re applying your polish near the cuticle, try not to paint right up to your cuticle because that’s when you can flood them. The best tip I ever got was to leave a small space in between your cuticle and where you start painting your nails near the top. It makes such a huge difference.

And even when I mess up a manicure, I still wear it if I like the colour. I think the more we try to attain happiness instead of perfection is when we enjoy our manicures more! 🙂 At least this is the case for me.

Thank you for your encouragement! 🙂 I really appreciate it – thank you so much!

I need this one, Mary!! I’m going to have to wait for another sale or free shipping event though. But this is definitely on my “to get” list from Cult Nails. Did you get anything from their most recent collection? They all looked warm-leaning to me so I passed. Wasn’t even that excited about Toxic Seaweed either (I still think Clairvoyant/Unicorn Puke is waaay better).

I’m really enjoying the periwinkle blues lately, like Color Club Shabby Drab. Although I’m currently wearing (aka suffering through) a really pretty color from the Revlon Colorstay line called Marmalade. I’ve been wanting to take it off since Saturday but have to keep it on for at least a couple more days for the wear test. 🙁

      Hey Carmela!

I can picture this on your nails – it’ll look even better on you than it does on me, actually!

No, I didn’t get anything from the recent Cult Nails collection, although I really want Toxic Seaweed. (Haha, I’m predictable, aren’t I? :P) Even the name alone gets me excited.

Can’t wait to read your review on the Colorstay polishes – I really wonder if they last as long as they claim to.

I love these kinds of colors. I haven’t purchased any Cult Nails Polishes but I definitely want to try them out. I am trying to think if I have anything similar but I can’t think of any at the moment. These purple gray colors are super popular, I think.

      Hey lacquerloon!

Yes, Cult Nails is an awesome indie brand that I really support. 🙂

And purple-grays are my favourite kinds to sport if I sport a gray. The purple makes it more wearable for me, and when it shifts depending on the light, it never fails to catch my attention.

I am a huge fan of this colour and agree that it is clean, easy to wear and sophisticated. I once spurced it up with zebra/cheetah konad print and added dabs of glittery silver… I really enjoyed it in that combo and am tempted to pull this bottle out again and play with it 😀

    Lovely!
