Ever since using a Neutrogena moisturizer and not being too impressed, I’ve been on the lookout for an effective daytime moisturizer.
The Shiseido The Skincare Day Moisture Protection Enriched SPF 15 Cream sure is a mouthful, but it’s worth saying!
I really love this daytime moisturizer because it feels great on the face, it isn’t greasy, it absorbs well, it hydrates like a dream, it works well under makeup, and it even has SPF 15.
Yeah, if that’s not enough raving, I don’t know what it’ll take to convince you that this Shiseido moisturizer is amazing! (And what’s even more amazing is that my friend, Carmela, from Polished Indulgence was able to find it at a warehouse sale for just $28 CAD!)
However, there’s one thing I found out about it that made me deduct a point from the Final Verdict score. Otherwise, it would be my holy-grail daytime moisturizer. Wondering what it is? Find out!

Shiseido The Skincare Day Moisture Protection Enriched SPF 15 Cream Review
Fragrance
Fragrance plays a huge role in how much I like or dislike a facial moisturizer because if you have to put it on and around your nose, it had better be pleasant.
The Day Moisture Protection Enriched SPF 15 Cream by Shiseido has a fresh, clean, floral aroma that’s very light. My nose is pretty sensitive, but this smell didn’t bother me. And I really could only smell it for maybe an hour after I wore it. Later on in the day, it’s so subtle that I don’t even detect it anymore.
Consistency
The pale-apricot cream has a thick consistency that’s easy to smooth onto your face – it feels luxurious!
How Well Does It Hydrate?
This is hands down the most expensive moisturizer I’ve ever used. All the other ones I’ve tried were from the drugstore. There’s nothing wrong with drugstore moisturizers, but the Neutrogena ones I tried always didn’t moisture my skin very well, and were very greasy. The good thing? They were inexpensive.
The Shiseido Day Moisture Protection Enriched Cream is ah-may-zing! It works instantly, and throughout the day, I didn’t feel any tightness or dryness. To put it simply, this stuff floored me!
I was used to moisturizers that just sit on top of your skin. This one actually absorbs well, and your skin feels very soft.
Is It Greasy?
I was surprised that this wasn’t greasy considering how strongly it hydrated my skin.
Just make sure that you only use a small amount. This Shiseido moisturizer is very rich, so a little goes a long way. If you pack it on, sure, it’ll be greasy, but if you use the correct amount, it doesn’t make your face shiny. (For reference, I only use a 2-pea-size amount of this stuff and it’s enough for my entire face!)
Another reason why it’s important not to use too much is because since there’s SPF, if you use too much, it’ll leave a white cast on your face. But, if you use the proper amount, it blends right in.
Does It Work Well Under Makeup?
Some moisturizers ball up under foundation or create a surface that’s so slick, your foundation slides off.
The Shiseido Day Moisture Protection Enriched Cream with SPF 15 worked exceptionally well under my Everyday Minerals loose mineral foundation. It kept my skin free of any dry patches that mineral makeup can sometimes accentuate.
Is It Worth the High Price Tag?
I realize that not everyone can afford this moisturizer. (Thinking about the retail price makes my palms sweat!) But, I was lucky enough to have a wonderful friend like Carmela, who thought to ask me what I was interested in before she hit up the warehouse sale.
For me, spending $28 CAD on this was still a lot more than I had ever spent on any moisturizer, but I have nothing but great things to say about Shiseido’s skincare products after trying (and raving about) the Shiseido Ultra Sun Protection Lotion SPF 50 For Face/Body.
This brand is leaps and bounds beyond the drugstore products I’ve tried, so I feel like it would be worth it even if I had to pay the full price.
Skincare is important – more important than makeup because skincare is used to promote health instead of just beauty. So, when I find great skincare that works exceptionally well, I’m willing to shell out a lot of money (within reason – I still will never ever everrrr everrrrr spend $200 on a cream).
If you can fit this luxury into your budget, I totally recommend you give this one a shot, especially for the dry, cold winter that can make your skin feel drier than usual.
Packaging
I’m not really fond of the tub because it forces me to dip and re-dip my finger into the container. This isn’t the most hygienic, however, I’m extra careful to always wash my hands with antibacterial soap prior to using this. (I wish it came with a pump, but the consistency is so rich, so it makes more sense that it’s in a tub.)
The container is opaque white, which is smart because sunlight can often break down the ingredients in a cream with continual exposure.
It was nice how they sealed the cream with a plastic film to keep it fresh until you open it. Very smart!
Also, you’ll notice that I just showed you the tub in the above photos. It comes in a box, however, because this was discounted and from a warehouse sale, they sold it without the box.
SPF 15
It was really important to me that the Shiseido moisturizer had sunscreen because if I use it daily, not only do I want it to hydrate my skin, but I also want it to protect me from the harmful UV rays.
The only bummer with this product was that when I did more extensive research online, I found out that the sunscreen only protects against UVB rays, which are the rays that can burn your skin. UVA rays are the ones that can age your skin.
I wish that this had UVA and UVB protection. I’m thinking about layering the Shiseido Ultra Sun Protection Lotion SPF 50 For Face/Body over this for complete protection.
If you planned to just use this as your only defense against the sun, I don’t think this is your best option. However, if you’re using it mainly as a moisturizer, it’s da bomb dot com. 😉

Final Verdict: 9/10
I’m in love with the Shiseido The Skincare Day Moisture Protection Enriched SPF 15 Cream! It’s the best daytime face moisturizer I’ve ever used, and thank goodness considering how expensive it was! 😛
What’s the most expensive skincare product you’ve splurged on? Do you have any drugstore wonders to share? Do you change your moisturizers based on the season?
I love facial moisturizers and find that they are necessary because of my very dry skin. But I do change it up seasonally – a lighter one in the summer will usually be ok. Right now I’m switching between three – Elizabeth Arden’s Prevage (which is a sample and came in my glossybox this month) – it retails for about $160 so that is out of the question for me to purchase. But I did buy a Dermalogical cream I just loved – Skin Smoothing Cream – and that was $70 (eek!). But that’s my most expensive. I also have Garnier’s new Ultra Lift 2-1 Winkle Reducer serum and moisturizer – it comes in a funky tube and is lighter than the other creams. But I’m always looking to try new creams so this review was helpful!
Hey Margo!
Phew – $160 for the Elizabeth Arden one! Yes, that would put a huge dent in anyone’s wallet. Even $70 for the Dermalogical one is on the pricey side, but if it works really well and is under $100, the pros outweigh the cons for me. Skincare is so important because it’s about health, not just beauty.
(Isn’t it weird when people shell out tons of money for makeup, but then buy skincare that doesn’t work well for them? I’d rather invest in skincare. Makeup is like the cherry on top.)
Hey, if it works for you, and it sounds like it does, then I think the splurge is worth it! I am always willing to spend more for good quality skincare products. My moisturizer of choice was recommended by my dermatologist–the brand is elta MD and it has an SPF of 46. It’s 45 USD, which makes it the priciest skincare product I own, but because it really works with my skin and a little goes a long way, I consider it money well spent :).
Hey Jessica!
I love how your moisturizer has an SPF of 46. With the UV rays getting stronger each year, it’s really important to protect your skin. I’m also glad to hear that you agree with splurging on skincare. It’s about health first and beauty second. 🙂
Who doesn’t love a good moisturizer? I’m a huge fan of Clinique’s Dramatically Different for it’s light texture, easy scent, and the way that it just soaks right into my skin w/o making it feel slick or icky.
There is one drugstore product that I swear by…Ponds Deep Cleanser and Make-up Remover. “But you said you don’t wear make-up” karen….true…but I got started using this stuff years ago when I did wear make-up and I still use it before bed every nite because it cleans beautifully and leaves my skin feeling soft and comfy. It looks like the Ponds cold cream in the jar, but it’s not quite the same.
Unlike the cold cream (which is thick and greasy) Ponds Deep Cleanser is light and washes off easily leaving your skin fresh and ready to go. Not sure how it would work if you used it in the mornings before putting moisturizer on, but it does a great job removing daily grime at nite.
Hey karen!
I’ve always wanted to try out Clinique’s Dramatically Different moisturizer, but just didn’t get around to it because after being so impressed by the Shiseido sunscreen lotion, I knew that I had to try the moisturizers, too. That company really knows what they’re doing! 🙂
It’s good that the Ponds cleanser works for you AND is affordable. What a beautiful thing when the best of both worlds come together!
I recently switched from Cetaphil’s 15 SPF daily moisturizer to Eucerin sensitive skin 30 SPF and really like it. It seems to work well with all of my makeup.

Hey Claire!
I haven’t tried anything from Eucerin, but I’ve read online that a lot of people are raving about Eucerin’s moisturizing efficacy, even on the driest skin. 🙂 It’s great to know that it also works under makeup!
I’m so glad you’re enjoying this! I’m still trying to finish a Garnier Moisture Rescue (which I’m actually thinking of repurchasing as I love the texture of it!) and the last of my Clinique Dramatically Different stash before breaking out my own jar of this. I do like to rotate my moisturizers depending on the season or the state of my face. I had a bout of really bad skin months when I tried a Neutrogena moisturizer that didn’t work well for me at all. I switched to Clinique after that fiasco in an effort to calm down my angry skin. It worked. Since then, I’ve been cautious with picking new products to try. The Garnier one, my mom in law got as a sample and gave to me (it’s a full-sized sample!). I find it might be even better to use during the hot summer months as it has this really neat cooling effect. I also tend to use moisturizer with higher SPF during the summer.

Hey Carmela!
Thanks again for picking it up for me. 🙂 I was so impressed by how well it moisturizes. And I feel like it has had lasting results, too. My skin feels even softer than before.
Now I’m excited about trying out an eye cream from Shiseido…but I need to save up – everything from them is so prciey!
I agree! I’ve only been using the night moisturizer (it was my first concession to anti-aging skincare and splurging a bit for it) and it really makes my skin feel so soft and supple.
Depending on what you’re looking for, I suggest getting an eye cream from a different Shiseido line (Benefiance or Bio-Performance). The Skincare one I’ve been using for a year now and while it’s really moisturizing, that’s about it. I’m not even sure if it prevents wrinkles at all. If you’re really looking to invest in great skincare, I got to try one by Kiehl’s, Midnight Recovery Eye cream. It’s pricey at $36 a pop but I started using it during the craziness of the holidays and I swear, no puffy eyes or darker than usual dark circles even with the less to non-existent sleep. 🙂

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll compare Kiehl’s to Shiseido. After my good experiences with Shiseido and null experience with Kiehl’s, I’m leaning toward Shiseido. They know how to make awesome skincare products. Now if they could just work on making them more affordable!
I have two products that I’m not sure of, shiseido-bio performance and prevage , does anyone know which ones has good results and is better please help me.
Hey Francis!
I haven’t tried either of those Shiseido products, but hopefully a reader will see your question and will be able to weigh in.
For the past couple of months or so, I’ve been using the Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist day and night moisturizers. Love them!
