Cake Strawberry Shortcake Decadent Bath & Shower Suds Review & Pictures

Cake Strawberry Shortcake Decadent Bath & Shower Suds Review & PicturesDo you remember Strawberry Shortcake? I sure do! When I was a kid, I had Strawberry Shortcake bed sheets, pillow cases, plus a doll, and a comic book.

Like Strawberry Shortcake, her friends were equally dressed in over-the-top cute get-ups, and they had loveable pets at their side.

(I always loved how Strawberry Shortcake’s cat was called Custard. Made me hungry, too!)

It’s perfect that Cake Beauty teamed up with Strawberry Shortcake to celebrate her 30th anniversary. ๐Ÿ™‚

I tried the Cake Strawberry Shortcake Decadent Bath & Shower Suds after receiving it as a Christmas gift from my sister-in-law. The scent was wonderfully nostalgic! Let me tell you more!

Cake Strawberry Shortcake Decadent Bath & Shower Suds Review

Fragrance

Cake Strawberry Shortcake Decadent Bath & Shower Suds was a treat for my snout because it sent me on a happy journey to my childhood. It’s not that I forgot about those wonderful memories from back then, but I just haven’t thought about it for a while. Smelling the strawberry fragrance was a pleasant surprise!

To me, it smells exactly like when you’re eating strawberry ice cream. While I’m not usually fond of strawberry scents, this one appeals to me.

It also smells a lot like my actual Strawberry Shortcake doll used to smell! It’s hard to describe, but it’s a plastic kind of strawberry. I hope that doesn’t turn anyone off, because it does smell good, but it doesn’t smell like authentic, fresh strawberries that you’d buy from the farmer’s market.

It’s a softer kind of scent that’s still very noticeable when you’re showering, but it isn’t so strong that you can smell it for a full day every time you step into the bathroom afterwards.

Also, it’s the kind of fragrance that won’t really interfere with your perfume (well, if your perfume is sweet, too. I haven’t tested out non-sweet perfumes because those are the only kind I own).

The scent is delicate on your skin, so even if you choose to wear your regular perfume, it’s your regular perfume that’ll remain dominant. (This gets the thumbs up from me because I wear the Britney Spears Fantasy perfume virtually every single day.)

Efficacy

The high praise doesn’t just stop at the fragrance. This baby lathers up beautifully, and you don’t even have to use a lot of it, either.

I recommend using one of those mesh sponges so that you only need a small drop to create a luxurious lather. (I suppose you could also use those other shower sponges, but I’m a big fan of the mesh kind, so I’ve never strayed.)

After using the Cake Beauty Strawberry Shortcake shower gel, my skin felt clean, and there wasn’t any weird residue that you can sometimes get from moisturizing shower gels.

While this formula didn’t dry my skin out, I didn’t notice that it hydrated it, either.

Packaging

The packaging is adorable, and I love being able to see one of my favourite childhood cartoon characters in my shower – makes me smile, and what better way to start off your day than with a smile?

As for the bottle itself, it’s a no-nonsense design that I appreciate. Its generous size contains more product than dinkier bottles, yet it doesn’t feel clunky or too large to hold.

The flip-up cap is easy to open and close, and it does a good job at dispensing just the right amount of product, so you don’t need to worry about too much spilling out at once or having to squeeze hard to kingdom come to get enough onto your sponge.

Limited Edition & Canadian Exclusive

Even though this product is a limited edition, a Canadian exclusive, and really difficult to find now, I still wanted to review it and share what I think is a lovely product and a great Canadian company.

And who knows? Maybe some of you have this in your closet and haven’t cracked it open yet.

(I actually love reading blog posts from others who show rare or discontinued products because sometimes it reminds me to use what I already have. And sometimes, it just makes me excited to be able to learn more about a product that I may not have known about otherwise.)

Value

Since this was a Christmas gift from my sister-in-law, I’m not sure how much she paid, but after doing some research, I saw that Cake Beauty shower gels typically retail for $20 CAD.

They have sales every so often, so it’s worth taking a look at their latest discounts. Also, they offer free shipping on orders of $75 CAD or more.

Pros

  • Great strawberry scent that smells like strawberry ice cream or the actual Strawberry Shortcake doll
  • Luxurious lather even with a small amount of product
  • Paraben-free
  • Most ingredients are natural
  • Canadian company (My fellow Canadians will appreciate this.)
Cons

  • Limited edition & Canadian exclusive, which makes that harder to find now
  • Retail price is high

Final Verdict: 9/10

The Cake Beauty Strawberry Shortcake Decadent Bath & Shower Suds was a total win for me, and I feel very grateful to have been able to try it. I’ll be using it sparingly for those days when I need a quick pick-me-up since it won’t be easy to find another bottle.

What’s a limited-edition product that you use and love? If you were a child of the 1980s, do you remember Strawberry Shortcake? If you’re not a child of the 1980s, what cartoons do you remember growing up?

Edit: Guess what? Cake Beauty retweeted my blog post to their followers! ๐Ÿ˜€

      Hey maddy!

Some stores may have a few neglected bottles of it left, but…yeah, unfortunately this was a limited edition. Who knows, though? Maybe Cake Beauty will come out with another strawberry scent in the near future!

Did you have dolls of the other characters? I only had Strawberry Shortcake (she was dressed as a ballerina, and the set came with a dance mirror, a doll stand, a tutu, and another outfit).

The entire set was a Canadian exclusive LE! Even while it was available it was hard to come by (especially in smaller cities) – great collection though, and great review! I’m kind of sad now that I didn’t get a chance to pick up the collection while it was still available!

      Hey Sara!

I remember seeing it at Sephora for a long time, and I smelled it, but never bought it for some strange reason. So when my sister-in-law surprised me with it (she had no idea that I saw it before), I was over the moon!

There must be some bottles that were stuffed away or forgotten. Maybe one day you’ll come across it. You never know!

Wow… This brings back memories! Strawberry Shortcake was my favorite… I had a TON of Strawberry Shortcake stuff. Sadly, my doll was a victim of the flooding in PA this fall… but before her epic demise, she still blew strawberry kisses!

      Hey Sarah!

Aww…sorry to hear about the flooding that directly affected you! Hope you were able to salvage your family keepsakes. I’ve never been the victim of a flooding before or any natural disaster, so I can’t truly know how devastating it can be. But, my heart goes out to people who have lost a lot of their precious belongings and family keepsakes that can’t be replaced. Hope you’re okay!

      Hey Frosso!

YES – Rainbow Brite was my favourite when I was a kid, too! But I also had a thing for Patty O’Green…hehe, of course, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰ (Strange thing is that back in the day, I didn’t like the colour green. Maybe Patty O’Green was a sign of things to come?)

I think that OPI should do a Rainbow Brite Collection. Imagine all the cool rainbow colours they could do? And I think they could create some really inspiring colours for Lurky and Murky!

      Hey Claire!

Hehe, I’m so glad that my plastic-strawberry description didn’t turn you off and that you could also associate it with happy childhood memories! ๐Ÿ™‚ Isn’t it amazing how certain scents can mentally transport us to a specific time and place?

Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m glad you like the new look. Vivian, one of my loyal readers, was extremely generous to offer me her time and graphic services. If you need any work done, I’d be more than happy to refer you to her.

As a child I never played with strawberry shortcake stuff (it wasn’t that popular in Poland and Germany) buuuut my girls love the Strawberry Shortcake characters now! And I won’t lie, when they are not looking I take a little sniff of her hair (lol… that so doesn’t sound right)… lol
    uhm… yeah, … where do I go from here…
I will look at Winners for this maybe?! they sometimes carry some fun products… ๐Ÿ˜€

      Hey Marta!

Oh cooool! I didn’t know that the new Strawberry Shortcake dolls still have that strawberry smell! ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s so nice to know that they decided to keep that in tact for future generations to enjoy. It’s that smell that made the doll extra special.

Good idea to check Winners out. That’s exactly the kind of place where it may turn up! Hope you’re lucky enough to find it!

Oh my. Strawberry Shortcake was way up there in my favorite childhood memories, along with the Carebears, Rainbow Brite and My Little Pony. If I remember correctly, I had a Strawberry Shortcake lunch box when I went to kindergarten! Ahh, fun times, when the only big problem you had was finding a way to make sure you got to the swing first before everyone else during recess. Have you seen the newer versions though? They’re nothing like I remember them to be! (Having my niece in the house ensured the Disney Junior channel was the only acceptable channel and even now, I still have the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse song stuck in my head) It’s good to know that the shower gel lived up to the name! Like Marta, I’ll definitely try to hunt this down in Winners, if I see it.

      Hey Carmela!

Sounds like we liked the same cartoon characters growing up. Care Bears were soooo adorable, and as a kid, my favourite was Love A Lot, although I also had a plush of Friendly Bear, too. (My brother didn’t like any of them except for Grumpy Bear…haha!)

Yes, I’ve seen the new Strawberry Shortcake cartoon, and I have to agree – they’re soooo different than they used to be. The original drawings looked way better.
