Cult Nails In A Trance Swatches & Review

Cult Nails In A Trance Swatches & ReviewWe all have our favourite comfort food that we gobble up in no time flat. It may remind us of home or something else that’s familiar and reassuring – it makes us feel good.

The same is true of nail polish. No, we don’t swallow our liquid euphoria, but we get the same sense of security when we wear our trusty nail colour. In other words, certain colours can put us at ease.

Cult Nails In A Trance from the Hypnotic Collection is one of my ‘comfort polishes’.

It’s a golden olive that I find very easy to wear and that really fits in with my style. I find the colour soothing yet interesting enough to keep my attention.

This is the first time that I tried In A Trance, and I can easily see myself going back to this colour whenever I’m not sure what to wear.

Do you have a ‘comfort polish’?

Cult Nails In A Trance Review

Colour

In A Trance by Cult Nails will leave you in a trance. Right after I finished putting a top coat over this baby, I think I literally stared at it for 30 seconds straight. (Did they put some drugs in the mix?)

The reason why I was so taken by this polish was because, under my terrible yellow artificial lights, this polish looked more gold to me than olive.

You know that green polishes really do it for me, although I’ve been interested in golden colours lately. So, I was expecting to see just a gold, but what I got was this awesome kind of olive with lively mustard shimmer.

It’s one of those polishes where the edges of your nails looks darker than the middle of your nail, which catches the light. And I like how this colour has an antique feel to it.

Finish

In A Trance by Cult Nails has a shimmer finish.

The shimmer is really interesting because although I saw light gold, when the sun hit my nails at a certain angle, I was able to see some orangey gold!

When you see the polish in the bottle, for some reason it doesn’t look nearly as exciting as it does when you’re actually wearing it on your nails! I love a polish that pretends it’s just your average Joe and then you find out it’s King Tut (minus the curse)!

Application & Formula

Application was dreamy! It went on easily like a creme polish, and it was extremely pigmented. Now, I tend to use medium coats, and with just one coat, it covered a lot of my nail right off the bat. With a second coat, it was absolutely perfect! I’m very happy with this formula – it’s very easy to control.

Limited-Time Free Shipping on Cult Nails Website

This review is very timely (although it wasn’t planned) because I got an e-mail about a free shipping offer on the Cult Nails website that’s valid until January 14th, 2012. It’s to celebrate the company turning one year old!

This free-shipping offer applies to any order – doesn’t matter if you order just one bottle or a truckload. You’ll get free shipping to anywhere they ship. (Yes, the free shipping applies to international orders, too!) No coupon code is necessary.

I’m new to “the Cult” and am not affiliated with them (I wish! Maria, contact me…hehe!), but after trying out Unicorn Puke, Hypnotize Me, and Iconic so far, I quickly became a huge fan. If there are any colours you’ve been itching to try, seize the savings! 😉

Pros

  • Gorgeous, easy-to-wear golden olive
  • Golden shimmer seems to have light & orangey gold
  • Catches the light
  • Highly pigmented
  • Great formula’s easy to control
Cons

  • Exclusively sold through the website (as far as I know)

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

In A Trance by Cult Nails is a stunning polish that’s fuss-free and that shimmers brilliantly. If you’re a fan of olive polishes, this is one of the best!

Are you ‘in the Cult’ yet? Will you be taking advantage of the free shipping? What’s your ‘comfort polish’?

Sadly, I’m not in the Cult yet. My comfort polish is black because I can always put a glitter or flakie over it and nail art looks great on black (to me). Black is also usually a one coater so it makes for a fast mani when you apply a glitter over it. Black doesn’t show your visible nail line and that’s another plus for me.

      Hey maddy!

You raise great points about black polish – it really is versatile. 🙂 And I also think that nail art looks great on black, especially when glitter or flakies are involved!

Wooo this is so beautiful and it looks amazing on your skin tone!! 😀 I love the idea of comfort polish… it is so true!!! Colours can have a huge impact on my mood. I guess it is hard for me to choose one since my favorite depends on my mood.

      Hey Ashesela!

Good point – I’m also like that. I choose my polish colour based on my mood most times. It’s a lot of fun that way. I know that some people choose colours based on the season, but I feel like it limits me too much. Neon polish in the winter is pure love for me – gets rid of the Winter Blahs quickly.

Oooooh!!! Lovin’ that gorgeous green! Cult is a bit out of my price zone at the moment (something that could change due to the free shipping), but that doesn’t stop me from going out there regularly for a little eye candy.

*Wipes up the drool* 😉 Always here to help…hehe!

If money were no object, which is the one Cult Nails nail polish you would want to buy from their entire line?

It’s a shame that they retired Always Winning, but In a Trance is right up there with Living Water and Enigmatic. I keep hoping they’ll get a restock on Clairvoyant.

Do you reckon it’s too early to start my list to Santa for next year? I plan on being good…er…at least ‘trying’ to be good. 😛

Looks like they’re only temporarily out of Clairvoyant, so it’s just a matter of how soon they’ll re-stock it! 🙂 Definitely that’s a must-have colour.

You know…I never got to see Always Winning in person. Thought about ordering it many times, but didn’t do it. Now it’s gone. (Sob story.)

Karen, it’s never too early to plan your list! Hehe, and I like how you’re ‘trying’ to be good. 😉

      Hey PinkGlitter!

Oh, you’re so lucky to be able to pull off Got a Date To-Knight! I have that shade, and it looks dreadful on me – really clashes with my skintone, but I loved it SOOOO much in the bottle.

This shade looks like it was made for you! I swoon when I see greens and blues on your lovely nails. I don’t sport them very often so I live vicariously through you 🙂
I will say however, that while I am not a green fan (sorry Kermit) I do love this shade on myself as well because of the gold tint to it 🙂

    Lovely swatches … As always

      Hey Marta!

I swoon when I see anything on your lovely nails, but your incredible stamping always impresses me. Plus I love how you accent your manicures with the person supporting accessories…like a necklace! 🙂 And the times when you did wear greens and blues, I thought they were quite flattering on you.

It seems like Cult Nails nail polishes were made for you, too. All the ones I’ve seen you showcase on your blog have all looked beautiful on your elegant nails.

Have to go now…Kermit’s crying. 😛 He’s still in his “It’s Not Easy Being Green” phase. Don’t worry – he’ll grow out of it, but I thought he would’ve in his tadpole stage…

I blame the hunt for Peridot because after all the green/gold and olive polishes I now have, I don’t even feel like wearing any after I’ve gotten them. Is that weird? It’s almost like after the thrill of the hunt, the acquisition part became anticlimactic. While this doesn’t really appeal to me right now, I do love this polish on you though. I’m with Marta and definitely agree that this is such a Mary polish. 😉 I’m so glad you tweeted about the free shipping! I actually put in an impulsive order last night and now I’m wondering if I should’ve gotten more. I only got 3 other shades: Cruisin’ Nude, Iconic and Hypnotize Me.

      Hey Carmela!

Maybe after diving into that colour so much, it burned you out a little. Just give it a little time. The colour may come calling out to you again…perhaps in your sleep. “Carmelllllllaaaaa!!!! Oooooo….Carmellllaaaaa!” It’s the Nail Polish Ghost of Christmas Past.

Great choices for the Cult Nails nail polishes! I only ended up ordering 2: Living Water and Power Thief. The free-shipping offer was too good to pass up!

This looks great on you! I’m not sure how well it would look on me, but I should probably find a olive green polish first to try it out. I don’t own anything from Cult Nails but I would love to though. They have some really amazing colors. I really like Clairvoyant, Living Water, and My Kind of Cool Aid among many.

Yes, test drive the colour first. Who knows? It may start a new obsession!

Cult Nails has some real stunners, that’s for sure. And I like how they put little twists so it’s not so easy to find dupes.

Ooooh, that shimmery golden olive green looks good on you but I’m still not sure how I feel yet about myself wearing mustard-relish polishes. I’m getting more adventurous with my nail polish (I was quite proud of myself for finally adding OPI Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window to my wishlist) but I’m not sure I’m that brave yet! Haha right now I think my comfort polish is OPI’s Rising Star–it goes with everything, gets lots of compliments, and I am in complete love with the foil finish.

      Hey Jessica!

I like how you described it as “mustard-relish polishes”. You make it sound delicious! 😀

YAY for adding Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window to your list – it’s such a great shade and different than the usual emerald or kelly greens that tend to be more popular. Great choice!

If you’re not sure if you pull off a colour, maybe you can test drive it a bit on your toenails first?

Definitely – they have pretty unique and hard-to-find colours, too. Clairvoyant is a must-have, in my opinion, and if you like flakies, Iconic is gorgeous!

Love this color! So unique yet functional. My comfort polish is probably grey, basically any shade. I also love blues and dark/wintry colors in general. Having my nails painted in general is my biggest comfort!

      Hey Kinsey!

I hear you – I feel the most awkward when my nails are bare. There’s just something comforting about looking down and getting to enjoy a new colour each time you paint your nails. 🙂

Hmm…no comfort polish for me, sorry. I find the process of choosing and wearing a color very comforting, but there’s no 1 polish in my collection that I turn to on a regular basis. I am not a Cult member and don’t plan to be anytime soon. My blog is called impoverished by polish for a reason, and my self imposed limit on any polish is $5. There’s nothing in my collection that I paid more for, I make use of all the deals/coupons/sales I can find. I think that I will be keeping this philosophy and staying withing my limit until my financial situation improves considerably. I usually just skip over any posts for polishes that I know are out of my price range so that I don’t feel the temptation. Your wonderful writing style makes your posts an exception, though 😉
