My nephew, Berkeley, is 1 year and 3 months old. Every time I see him, he keeps getting bigger and bigger. Soon I’ll be the shrimp!
Since his parents don’t visit my blog and he’s much too young to be looking up reviews (hehe), I feel pretty safe posting this.
Here’s what I got my nephew for Christmas! 🙂 Remember The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle? I consider this to be a children’s classic book!
The caterpillar passes by leaves and other things, eating its way through everything. The book has holes to make it fun for kids.
This particular version comes with a plush toy, so my nephew will be able to play along. Unfortunately, though, the holes in the book aren’t big enough for the caterpillar plush toy to go through. (I didn’t see that edition or I would’ve gotten it.)
It’s my mission to build up Berkeley’s home library because books play an important part in a child’s education. I want him to look back on his collection from Aunt Mary and think that it’s kick-ass. 🙂 I’m going to get him as many old classics as well as the modern ones.
Another reason why I chose The Very Hungry Caterpillar is that Berkeley is a really fussy eater. So I’m sure my brother and my sister-in-law are going to appreciate this since the book encourages eating. 😉 We’ll see if this psychology works!

Great choice! I used to work for B&N for about 5 years and I always loved that little gift set with the caterpillar. Eric Carle is great way to build a child’s book collections, plus he has soooo many books to choose from. My favorite book when I was little was Bread and Jam for Frances by Hoban. When I was in kindergarten I had what was probably my first OMG moment when I came across this book. My birth name is actually Frances, so to come across a book about a little badger named Frances was so awesome for me. I addition…at that time in my life and for most of my tiny years I always ate jam sandwiches, they were my favorite…No joke lol. So you can only imagine how amazed and excited I was to see this book about me as a badger lol.

How perfect is that? Hehe, I can imagine how excited you were – it was like your personalized storybook! 😀 How fun! (I’ve never heard of that book before, but I’ll look for it at the bookstore the next time I go. It sounds cute!)
There’s a bunch of other books in the collection, but Bread and Jam for Frances is great for picky eaters 🙂

I love this book! When I was in SK i had to make this book for a project. It was so much fun and I think I still have it in my basement. On Monday, my class had reading buddies with the SK’s so my reading buddy chose this book and it brought back so much memories of me. It’s a great classic. Good luck filling Berkeley’s library. Hope you find tons of books to fill up his library.

Oh I loved that book so much! It was one of the first books I checked out of the library in Finnish to help me learn. My favorite book as a kid I think was sort of obscure: Go to Sleep, Nicholas Joe. I’m not sure of the author though. Anyway, great gift choice! Oh and I also wanted to tell you how much I love your blog name — we all try to be clever, but yours makes me laugh. 🙂

Fantastic choice for your nephew! He’s going to love it, ’cause I loved reading this when I was younger too. This was the very first book I read from start to finish. I remember it so vibrantly because I had issues with reading. I’d read one page of a book, give up and just look at the pictures. My grade 1 teacher got sniff and sat me down with The Hungry Caterpillar, and asked me to read it to her. I remember bawling my face out because I couldn’t read, but I ended up finishing it! btw, It’s so cute that it comes with a stuffed animal!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a great book for kids! I loved it when I was little and my niece who is four now was in love with it too. She was really into it when she was around 2 1/2-3 years old. She was being read it so much to the point where would memorize certain parts and essentially read the book to herself in her own way. It was really cute. I recently saw the set with the caterpillar when I was shopping at T.J. Maxx and I thought she would have loved it. The book I remember from Eric Carle when I was little, besides this one, was Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? My niece loves books, so for Christmas I got her the Roald Dahl book set, that has about 15 books. I figure they’re good books for me to read to her until she’s able to read on her own.

I have yet to pick this book up for my little ones, but I know that it is a classic! The plush caterpillar is an awesome little addition, and your gift (in trying to maybe entice your little Nephew to eat a bit more) is beyond thoughtful.
As a parent, when the kids don’t eat (or are super picky eaters) it is one heck of a challenge.

Since you’re a parent, I’m really glad that you think this was a good choice. Sometimes I second-guess myself for things like this because I don’t have children. I just try to put my feet in their shoes and think, “What would a kid want? What would the parents want for their kid?” And a lot of times, what I end up getting is something that even I would want even though I’m in my 20s. 😛
