Nicole by OPI Sealed with a Kris Swatches & Review

Nicole by OPI Sealed with a Kris Swatches & ReviewNicole by OPI Sealed with a Kris is another colour in the Kardashian Kolors Collection that I’d like to show you.

This is a more traditional medium red that’s very easy to wear. If you’re a bit shy and don’t want to wear a bright red that screams, “I’m here! Notice me!”, this is a good (and safe) choice.

Hehe, but as you know, I’m pretty fearless when it comes to wearing nail polish. I’ll try pretty much any colour, and the more vibrant and loud it is, the happier I am. (Yet neutrals and soft shades tend to intimidate me…but I still try them.)

Sealed with a Kris doesn’t reinvent the colour wheel, but it’s a good standard classic red that I feel would be easy for people of different skin tones to pull off. It’s not flashy, and it’s not vampy. If you don’t already have a red in your collection, this is a nice one to have.

Also, some people have been having a bit of trouble locating the Kardashian Kolors Collection. I’ve asked PR and was told that this collection should already be available. It may just take some time for certain stores to get all the colours, though.

Classy red

Key Notes

Nicole by OPI Sealed with a Kris Review

Colour

Sealed with a Kris from Nicole by OPI is your classic medium red – not too dark and not too light. This middle-ground colour would be easy for people of all different skin tones to sport, I think. And because it’s so easy to wear, I do think that this colour is a general staple in any nail-polish collection.

While this colour doesn’t break any boundaries and bring something revolutionary to the table, I think that it’s a colour that appeals to the masses. Red nail polish adds a nice pop of colour when you need a pick-me-up, and this one is more sophisticated and less trashy than some.

I have tons of polishes in my collection (500+), so this one didn’t stand out to me. But if you don’t have a red like this, I do think it’s worth picking up because the formula is excellent. (I’ll go into that in a bit.)

Finish

The lovely thing about Sealed with a Kris is that it has a jellyish finish. Now, some people may not like that, but first let me go into why I appreciated it.

With a jelly finish, the application is super smooth, self-levelling (i.e. it’s easier to fix polishing boo boos while you’re painting, which makes it ideal for beginners), and the finish is extremely shiny even without a top coat.

The downsides of a jelly finish is that it’s more prone to showing VNL (Visible Nail Line). You’ll require more coats if you want to build up opacity, and even then, there may be slight VNL. I think, though, that for such a glossy finish, it’s worth compromising.

Application & Formula

Since the formula was spot on, I can totally vouch for Sealed with a Kris! It goes on silky smooth, and it’s easy to control on your nail.

Pros

  • Nice staple red that’s easy to wear
  • Glossy finish even without a top coat
  • Smooth & easy-to-work-with formula
Cons

  • Not a revolutionary red

Final Verdict: 6.5/10

This polish is nice, but chances are that if you’ve been collecting polish for a while, you already have something really similar to it. Still, it’s great in its own right because of its fuss-free formula and super shine.

Do you wear red polish any time of year or just closer to the holidays? What’s your favourite type of red to wear?

      Hey Marisa!

No problem. 🙂 I enjoyed wearing this, but the colour certainly didn’t blow me away. Hehe, but with as many polishes as I have, it truly takes a stunner to do that. 😉

      Hey PinkGlitter!

Nice – red glitter polishes are some of my favourites to wear around the holidays. I really like China Glaze Ruby Pumps!

      Hey Polish Vixen Marsa!

I’m glad you love it so much! 🙂 It seems like others are not too thrilled about it, so this colour should be easier for you to get hold of! There’s always an upside.

While it’s a pretty red, I’m not drawn to it at all. I dunno, it sounds strange to call a red this, but it’s..boring. It’s too safe. In my head, if you wear red, you need to have the right attitude to pull it off: go vampy or go bright. Kind of at odds with my propensity for subtle contrasts but red is the big exception to the rule. 😉

      Hey Carmela!

Oh no, that’s not strange at all! I find most reds boring, actually, only because the market is completely saturated with them. So it really takes a special one (or a glittery one) to wow me.

Looks nice. I need a red… But I just bought a bunch of nailpolishes, so I guess I should rein in my obsession, haha.

On a slightly different note I bought Nubar’s Stylish Peacock in the hopes that it’ll look a bit like Essie’s School of Hard Rocks (loving that name…). Do you know if they’re alike at all?

      Hey Charlotte!

Good luck reining in your obsession…Hehe, I’ve tried to for a long time. Nothing’s worked, so I’m just gonna go with it. 😉

Nubar Stylish Peacock is really pretty! I don’t have it, but just based on the swatches I looked up online, it looks bluer than Essie School of Hard Rocks. (I love the name, too! :D)

Okay, this is way prettier in your swatches than it looked under the harsh lighting at WalMart. I snagged a bottle of Follow Me on Glitter, but might have to go back and get this one as well.

It looks like it would make a good basic staple. A good red polish is rather like owning a simple black skirt…nice enough on it’s own, but really great when you need something fast and elegant that goes with anything.

      Hey karen!

Please let me know how you like Follow Me on Glitter – I don’t have it.

I agree – Sealed with a Kris is a no-brainer when you need a red that goes with pretty much anything. Good analogy with the simple black skirt.

This is great red! The color seems to change in your pictures from the different lighting. My Shopper’s Drug Mart will start selling these this Saturday! So excited! 🙂

      Hey maddy!

Yes, it appears to change a little. The flash does make it look a lot brighter than it is, so the most accurate would be the others.

Woo hoo about your Shoppers! 😀 Remember, the first one to grab is Kendall on the Katwalk! Seriously, in person, it’s incredible!

      Hey Emily!

No, I haven’t really had that problem with Seche, although I’ve heard lots of people saying it happened to them.

I think sometimes it’s because a base and top coat may not get along. Other times, it might depend on when and how you apply Seche, but it’s still different for everyone, it seems!

When I apply Seche, I actually don’t put it straight on wet polish (even though you’re supposed to). I wait about 10 minutes for my last coat of colour to dry a little. Then I put on a medium coat of Seche.

Some people have noticed sheets peeling off if they used really thick coats and if they applied Seche over completely dry polish. Other than that, it’s a mystery!

I’m pretty much over anything red these days, but I do like this polish color. I’m really into the super dark polishes that could almost be confused with black in low lighting. This looks a little brighter than that but I still like it “for a red” haha. I really want Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam…! I’m intrigued that someone above said it might be coming out Saturday. I sure haven’t been able to find them yet! 🙁 What is up with “lam lam” tho… what does that even mean?! I don’t watch the show (although my husband does! ha) so maybe I’m missing a show reference.

      Hey Nicole!

I know what you mean. There are just soooooo many reds on the market. However, I think I’ll be wearing more as we get closer to Christmas just to be festive. 🙂 Red really is a colour I don’t wear all that much, so Christmas is the perfect time to bust them out (and justify why I bought them in the first place…hehehe).

I saw in the Shoppers Drug Mart flyer that the Kardashian Kolors will be $9.99 CAD starting Saturday! And for those in the States, I think that so far only some Wal-Mart locations have it in stock, but eventually all will carry them.

Oh, the Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam probably has something to do with her husband, Lamar or her baby.

    Hi, Mary!

Follow Me On Glitter is pretty nice, but you have to work quickly with it because it starts to clump on the brush just a little if you take too long. That said, the consistency is good for quick and controlled application so even if you overload the brush, it stays on the nail and doesn’t drip off to the sides.

It is absolutely LOADED with fine glitter (more than I’ve ever seen in a single bottle) so it covers well in a single coat, but I added a second coat for depth. It dries really fast and I fully expected to have to load up on topcoat in order to smooth out the finish and add shine, but it didn’t seem to absorb the topcoat as much as other glitters. I used two thin coats of Sally Hansen top coat to smooth out the texture and finished up with a coat of China Glaze Fast Forward to shine it up and help it dry faster–total time from base to (safe-to-touch) finish was only about an hour.

The result is a multidimensional glitter effect that is more silver than black with little flashes of color that really pop in the sun. It’s demure…and yet flashy at the same time. I’ve had it on for about 3 days now (longer than I usually wear a varnish) and there is no sign of wear or loss of shine.

As much as I love glitters, I love a smooth finish even more so I usually end up with multiple topcoat layers. Great for wear–takes a soaking to remove. It might not take so many coats with Seche Vite, but our local stores seem to be having trouble keeping it in stock so I’ve not gotten a chance to try it.

    Happy Polishing!

      Hey karen!

Great that it’s nearly a single coater! That’s a definite plus, especially for glitter polishes. I find that the more layers you add, the harder they are to remove!

I’m surprised that it doesn’t eat up top coat. It totally looks like it would because it’s so densely packed with glitter.

Thank you for the awesome, highly detailed review of it! 😀

I love this color! I wear it during fall and winter seasons. Even though it’s not a noticeable color it’s chic and sophisticated and I get a lot of comments when I wear it. I believe this color is a fashion must! 😀
