Veet EasyGrip Ready-to-Use Wax Strips Review & PicturesHappy Hallowe’en!

Hope you’re having a spooktacular time! πŸ™‚

Speaking of having a happy haunting, I have something truly scary to review today. It’s hair-raising evenΒ – the Veet EasyGrip Ready-to-Use Wax Strips!

I’ve wanted to try this ever since the summer, but kept putting it off because I can be a big ole chicken. *Bawk bawk bawk*

Waxing just seems really intense to me. You’re pulling the hair out by the root, after all. There’s no dainty way to go about it. Put your gold-rimmed floral teacup down! Go in and yank those suckers out!

As you can probably extrapolate from the above, I had never waxed before. So, I wanted to document my first experience on here, naturally.

Don’t worry – there aren’t any nasty before-and-after hair-removal photos of my legs to cringe at.

(Please do a Google image search for ‘Sasquatch’ if you are interested in Before Photos. For After Photos, Google Adriana Lima or some other drop-dead-gorgeous model. ;))

Veet EasyGrip Ready-to-Use Wax Strips Review

Value

This package certainly comes with a lot of wax strips for you to remove hair on large areas like your legs. This particular box had a bonus of 4 little pink strips to be used on your bikini area or your face.

Wax Strips

The wax strips are contained between 2 sheets of what feel like wax paper. The bonus pink strips come in rectangles, but the green strips have a contoured shape that’s supposed to make it easier to hold onto.

How to Use

To use the Veet wax strips, you have to rub one strip between your hands. This will warm the wax inside. Then you peel the strips apart. Place the wax onto your leg (tab side pointing down) and repeatedly rub the strip downwards in the direction of your hair growth (i.e. knee to ankle).

Once you’ve mustered up some courage, hold your skin taut and then grab the tab and pull the strip back on itself against the direction of the hair growth. You have to do this in much the same way you’d remove a bandage – fast and in a swift motion.

How to Remove

After you finish using the strips, you’ll have little bits of stuck-on wax. To get this off, you’re supposed to use the provided wipes. They contain a lot of mineral oil to help remove the wax.

Tips from Veet

  • Exfoliate 24 hours before waxing for improved results
  • Make sure your hair is past the stubbly stage (Veet wax strips work best on hair between 2mm & 5mm long.)
  • Ensure that your skin is dry, non-irritated & free of creams or oils
  • Test a small section of your skin & check for any reaction after 24 hours (Some people are allergic.)
  • Don’t scratch your skin after waxing because it can lead to irritation

My Experience

I followed their directions exactly, and maybe it was my lack of experience, but the wax didn’t pull enough hair out in one go. I tried a few strips on each leg just to see if it would remove it all. Unfortunately, it didn’t. I was left with a lot of hair. Eventually, I gave up. Think I’ll stick to shaving.

It was really scary to pull the wax. You can’t peel it gingerly. You have to do it fast and smoothly. When the wax did grip onto the hair, boy was it painful! But, this is my first time, so maybe you get used to it when you’ve come to expect it. Despite the harshness, surprisingly my skin didn’t get irritated or red at all.

There were little bits of wax left on my legs. Using the wipes did help get rid of it, but I found them really unpleasant to use because they’re loaded with mineral oil. I had to take a shower after to get that icky film feeling off my skin.

Although the Veet wax strips didn’t pull out all my leg hair and leave me smooth, the hair it did pull out took longer to grow back than if I had shaved.

And I didn’t dare use any of the strips to wax my face and bikini area, which are really sensitive. I was way too chicken and had nightmares about me getting a ‘waxing burn’ in the shape of aΒ moustache. I’d never live that down. *Bawk bawk bawk* Yes, I know…

    Pros

  • Provides long-lasting results
  • Can be used on short hair
  • Package comes with many strips
  • Strips are ready-to-use & don’t require microwaving
    Cons

  • A beginner may not be able to successfully remove all the leg hair in one session
  • Wipes feel really gross & filmy on your skin because of the mineral oil
  • Obviously, there’s some pain when you rip the hair out from the root

Final Verdict: 4/10

I could only give this product a top score if it removed all my leg hair easily. Unfortunately, I ended up using my razor. It still gets a 4, though, because you get a ton of strips with it, and I feel like if you have more experience than I do with waxing, you could probably make this work.Β I’m grateful to have been able to try it, but it just wasn’t for me, unfortunately. This has killed any desire I had to wax.

How do you remove your unwanted hair? Do you think that the pain from waxing is worth the long-lasting results? Have you had your hair removed by a professional or do you do it yourself?

I tried these as well (as my first foray into waxing) and wasn’t particularly impressed either. I swear, if I could just get the hang of threading, I’d do it myself for my legs. Never mind that it’s like tweezing by the dozen. I almost always get razor burn (sensitive skin, I guess? so hot wax/sugar is also a no go) so I’ve stopped shaving and instead use a depilatory cream. I particularly like http://well.ca/products/veet-supreme-essence-cream-pump_37228.html just because it’s easy to find and does what it’s supposed to. Also, no pain. πŸ˜›

      Hey Carmela!

I’ve heard so many wonderful things about threading and how it has long-lasting results. It looks so cool whenever I see it done. Never tried it, but it’s something I wouldn’t mind learning. But yeah…ouch! I’ve also never tried any depilatory creams. Hehe, I’m such a one trick pony with my shaving! πŸ˜›

Old-fashioned leg shaving works so well for me that I never really considered at-home waxing. I’m good with a razor and lots of shaving cream. I do get my eyebrows waxed at a salon, though–I figure it’s better to leave their shape, thinness, etc. to the professionals (especially since I hate plucking). I do have to say that you have to be careful even when getting a wax done by a professional–I was burned fairly badly one time because the wax was too hot.

      Hey Jessica!

I’ve never had any hair removed by a professional. I dunno…I just like to try to do some things myself, and I’m just a chicken when it comes to hair removal. That’s why I’ve stuck to shaving all these years. Well, I do tweeze, but only my eyebrows.

OWWWW…sorry to hear about your horrific wax burn! πŸ™ That’s my nightmare. I guess that person didn’t have enough experience…

I love these. I used to use warm wax (the kind that comes in a tub and you have to microwave it) but found it to be very messy and hard to apply an even layer, so I tried these. Now I stock up on them every summer. Sorry to hear it didn’t work for you. You applied them correctly, and usually that would remove all my hair. I can even get two uses out of a strip, though the second time you’d have to really rub it into your skin. I didn’t feel any pain that you experienced either. It was much more comfortable than warm wax. Maybe I’m more used to the particular pain because I used to wax a lot before. Hopefully you’ll be able to find a good product for yourself!

      Hey Vivian!

I’m glad that these worked really well for you! πŸ˜€ Maybe my leg hair is thicker than yours…(read: Sasquatch…hahahah!). I may try it again, but I do need to muster up the courage again. I still have several unused strips that I don’t want to go to waste. Maybe I’ll get better at it. (If my results are any different with multiple tries, I’ll edit this blog post to reflect it.)

I kind of think the wax is able to grab onto thicker hair better than fine! I say this because I waxed my guy friend’s hairy back with these LOL. It hurt, but it did it’s job. Maybe your hair was too short for the wax to grab onto?

Hahahahahaha! Sorry…you waxed your friend’s hair back! OH MY GOSH! How painful must that have been? How I wish I had seen Before and After Photos of THAT! πŸ˜›

It was nice of you to do that for him. Did he ask you to? And now I’m so curious. This is gonna sound gross – how many strips did it take to remove all his back hair? I know I shouldn’t ask, but I just can’t help my curiosity!

It took the entire box of 20 strips (smaller package than the one in ur review). He’s been wanting to remove his hair for a while, so he gave me some cash to buy these strips for him after he asked me what they were. What is it with guys and buying beauty/feminine products. I wish I had some photos to show you, it made an amazing difference! The wax strips were gross….they looked like strips of carpet LOL.

WOW! The entire box? Sounds like both you and the guy were really patient.

Haha, I’m picturing strips of carpet. Ewwwwwww! (But I’m not sorry that I asked. I like hearing about gross things sometimes. This is such a time.)

I wonder now if you’re going to be his go-to hair-removal lady now. What have you gotten yourself into? A hairy situation! *Groans* (I had to make that corny pun.)

Oh my gosh! I’m even impressed that you dared to use wax on your eyebrows. I’m much too chicken to try that. Plus my eye area is super sensitive. I can see that being really disastrous. I need to get better at waxing my legs first – larger canvas…hehe, that can be concealed easily if I mess up. πŸ˜‰

Oh no! All these talk about burns and not removing any hair is making me nervous to try those foaming hair removal stuff, too. πŸ™ Maybe I should just stick with shaving because I know it works for sure…but the results don’t last as long.

I’m glad that you appreciated my post. I wasn’t sure if people would be disgusted or not by my talk about waxing hair on my legs…haha! πŸ˜‰

I’m so relieved to hear that I wasn’t the only person who is intimidated by waxing. (Still can’t believe it took me since the summer to finally try these because of my fear! But I’m glad I did get around to it.)

      Hey Maria!

Yeah, shaving is just so much easier, and I feel like we all know how to shave since we’ve had more practice. Waxing involves a learning curve. But for those who know how to do it well swear by it. Just don’t think it’s right for me.

i was attempting to read each persons comment then gave up. aha. so i apologize if someone else has already written this. i’m a beauty therapist and in my experiences of waxing.. yes you do need to apply the stripes properly for the correct removal of wax.. apply in the direction of hair growth and rip it off in opposite direction. But it is also good to note that there are different stages of hair growth (anagen, catagen & telogen) meaning that the hairs on your legs are at different legs (especially if you’ve been shaving previously) and it is difficult for wax stripes, hot wax or any wax to remove these shorter hairs which is probably why you felt the need to shave afterwards. If you contiune to wax every 3 to 4 weeks without shaving, your hairs will soon enough become all the same length and all will be removed each wax. In saying all that, i dont even wax my legs.. i still shave. ha.

Haha, yeah, quite a few people chimed in on this post. πŸ™‚

That’s a really good point you make about the hair on the leg being at different lengths when you shave. I never even thought about that! I’ll use use the rest of the strips in the package (because I don’t want to waste them, and because I don’t know anyone who waxes)…but I don’t know if I can rely on it for 3-4 weeks and go without shaving. Haha! Who knows? Maybe I’ll improve…

I tried these…same results as you. I think the rest of the box are still in the bathroom! Someone said something about maybe it has something to do with fine/coarse hair and mine is fine, so maybe that’s it. I have used warm wax on myself and been waxed professionally, both worked much better for me. But still, I mostly shave….warm wax at home is messy and getting it done professionally gets to be a bit expensive!

Aww…it’s too bad that these didn’t work so well for you, either! I’ll probably try out a few of the remaining strips, and if they still don’t work, I’ll try to give them away to any friends who are interested in testing them out.

    hey!!!!
im in india and have been reading your blog regularly for about 5 monts now and LOVE it!!! It really acts as the cheer-factor when im feeling low πŸ™‚ I have got the same waxing strips but have not got down to using them as yet…the thing is that here we usually get waxing done and dont shave. I wanted to ask you what your views are on waxing vs. shaving. I have been thinking of switching over.

      Hey allthingspink!

Thank you so much for following my blog for a long time. πŸ™‚ Knowing that makes me incredibly happy! And working on this blog also cheers me up a lot, too!

Waxing (when done right) has longer-lasting results than shaving. Shaving cuts the hair at the skin’s surface, so it looks like it grows back faster. Because shaving leaves the end of the hair blunt, when it grows back in, it feels pricklier than if you had waxed. If you’re good at waxing, don’t mind the mess, and have the time, don’t have super sensitive skin that gets allergic to the wax, it’s actually more effective than shaving. I just shave because it’s faster and because I suck at waxing! πŸ˜›
