OPI Fresh Frog of Bel Air Swatches & Review

OPI Fresh Frog of Bel Air Swatches & ReviewHere’s OPI Fresh Frog of Bel Air, the 3rd glitter polish that I’m showcasing from the OPI Muppets Collection that’s coming to stores on November 1st.

The name for this one is cute. Kermit’s like a frog prince.

I’m picturing a green Will Smith, which isn’t cute, but whatever. And now I’m thinking about Carlton dancing to It’s Not Unusual. Hehe! πŸ˜› (See the end of this post for a link for a YouTube clip.)

Since Carmela, one of Swatch And Learn’s regular visitors, showed great interest in seeing the green glitter, I obliged. And, well, you all know how I feel about green nail polish, right? πŸ˜‰

This one like the others I’ve shown looks best when layered over another colour. If you don’t like rocking it solo, please check out my layering swatches later on in this post. Fresh Frog of Bel Air really transforms them and adds depth and obviously glitz.

I’m not quite ready to get off the glitter train just yet. But don’t worry – my stop’s coming up soon.

I don’t have all the colours in this collection, but there’s one more I’d like to show you eventually.

OPI Fresh Frog of Bel Air Review

Colour

This is similar to the blue glitter I showed you yesterday (OPI Gone Gonzo!) that had small glitter and large silver hexagonal glitter suspended in clear polish. With Fresh Frog of Bel Air, the small dense glitter is a primary green and there’s also silver hexagonal glitter.

I can see this being layered over another green to create the perfect St. Patrick’s Day manicure! (Scroll down for swatches of my layering experiments.)

Finish & Grittiness

Even though this looks like it would be really rough and scratchy because of the chunky, texturized look, it really feels fairly smooth on the nail even without top coat.

So you could actually wear it as is if you wanted to, but since I’m used to wearing a top coat, I slicked some on in my swatches. (Although in my swatches on the nail wheel, I didn’t use any top coat. You can see that it’s shiny and sparkly on its own.)

Application & Formula

The consistency is a bit thick, but it doesn’t feel like dried glue or anything that’s unusable. You’ll most likely have to thin this one out over time. Oh, and this baby dries fairly quickly like a lot of glitter polishes I’ve tried tend to.

To get the glitter evenly distributed, you’ll need to go back with your brush and push some of the large hexagons around. This isn’t really a big deal and it literally just takes maybe 2 seconds extra per nail.

Make sure that you wait long enough in between coats for the best results and to avoid bald patches. Of course, if you’re just using one coat, you won’t have to worry about this. (I plan to use this mainly only for layering. It really spices up existing colours.)

Layering Experiments

I think that most people will opt to layer this over other colours to achieve better opacity and also for easier glitter removal. So I’ve included the below layering experiments to help you decide. Oh, decisions, decisions, decisions!

Opacity

In case you plan to wear this solo, below is a swatch of what it looks like with just a single coat on my bare, yellow-stained nail.

Keep in mind that for full opacity, you’ll either need to be more careful than me during application or you should add a 4th coat.

Glitter Removal

Lots of people avoid wearing glitter because it’s not the easiest to get off. But…I like wearing glitter on occasion because it’s fun. If you can’t do the time, then don’t do the crime! πŸ˜›

Previously in my OPI Rainbow Connection swatches and review post, I listed 3 things you can do to make it easier on yourself. Please scroll down that page if you’re interested.

Pros

  • Fun green & silver glitter
  • Contains small glitter & large hexagonal glitter
  • Feels smooth for a glitter polish
  • Dries relatively quickly
  • Versatile – can be layered over other polishes to transform them
  • Big-3-Free (No Formaldehyde, Toluene, or DBP)
Cons

  • Glitter removal is time-consuming
  • Application requires more effort

Final Verdict: 7.5/10

Fresh Frog of Bel Air by OPI is a polish that I’ll definitely be wearing again, but layered over something else. It adds just the right amount of bling.

And now here’s the link to the YouTube clip that features a compilation of Carlton doing his funny dance moves.

Do you think you’ll be getting this green glitter polish? Have you ever layered a holo with glitter with good results? Are you going to watch The Muppets movie when it comes out? Did you used to watch The Fresh Prince of Bel Air?

      Hey Aren!

Aww…that’s cute! Kermit is so loveable, isn’t he? I had a crush on him, too when I was a kid.

My first TV crush, though, was Jeff (the mannequin who came to life…from Canadian show, Today’s Special). I’m not embarrassed to admit it, either, but it does make me laugh.

I can’t wait for your swatches of Gettin’ Miss Piggy With It! I think that one and Rainbow Connection will be my favorite! πŸ˜€

      Hey Valerie!

Unfortunately, I don’t have Gettin’ Miss Piggy With It!, but it definitely looks so pretty in the promo! The 4th glitter polish I have from this collection is Divine Swine, and I hope to post it sometime next week. πŸ™‚

      Hey Tera!

It looks dramatic over black. πŸ™‚ I love how the glitters from this collection can be layered over so many different colours and really transform them.

I died. @_@ You killed me dead, Mary. But I love you for it! πŸ˜€ Thanks for the shout out, too; I’m all blushy and green with envy. Very Christmas-y if you think about it.. πŸ˜€

I love all that green glittery goodness over black! Sooo pretty! I love how it looks gorgeous layered over the pastel green too. Ugh. I want those 3 glitters soooo much. Any chance they’ll do an early limited release..? XD

Come back to life! There are still more amazing polishes to see. πŸ˜› *Uses a bottle of nail polish instead of smelling salts*

Oh, if they have an early release, I’m so there! I’d want to check out the non-glitter polishes, too.

      Hey Marcia!

Thank you so much! πŸ™‚ I love growing my nails longer and then cutting them really short after. Really depends on my mood. Right now, my nails are short again because I’m sporting this really cool fall colour that I recently got. I’ll probably post the swatches and review for it sometime next week or so.

I wasn’t too keen on this green glitter either but boy does it look lovely ontop of China Glaze Emerald Sparkle and Orly Meet Me Under the Mistletoe!! I really enjoy your layering section. Not a lot of blogs will provide so many options! I might buy it for the holidays to jazz up the greens.

once again, when worn alone… mermaid tail??

Do you have any more swatches to show us from the muppets collection? :O I’m dying to see your reviews! Best I’ve found!

      Hey Vivian!

I’m glad that you enjoyed my little layering experiments! πŸ™‚ I wanted to include a bunch of different combinations because sometimes you can go from not liking a manicure to loving it just by changing the base colour. Plus it’ll give everyone a better idea of how they can play around with it using polishes they already own. Versatility is gold!

Yes, I have one more colour to share with you from the OPI Muppets Collection – Divine Swine (the magenta glitter). πŸ™‚ That will go live on the blog tomorrow. I liked Divine Swine even more than I thought I would, so it was a pleasant surprise. And I also include layering experiments in that post, too.

While this may be a little too much green and glitter for me πŸ˜‰ I think it is a clever, spunky, and fun shade… kind of the way I have come to think of you πŸ™‚

First of all, what a cute name for this polish!! One of OPI’s better names out of the *ahem*…many unsuccessful ones…Lol but that aside, this color is SUPER duper pretty! I’ve been getting into greens this year and this color is definitely on its way to my lemming list! I especially love this polish layered; I love your combinations! πŸ˜€

      Hey Ruthe!

Hahaha, yeah, some names are weird. But when OPI gets it right, they really get it right! πŸ™‚

YAY – I’m so excited to hear that you’ve been getting into greens! I have no idea why, though. πŸ˜› Hahaha!

Definitely looks better layered over another colour.

Which base colour would you pair this one with?

I really loved how this looked over Meet Me Under the Mistletoe and Emerald Sparkle. I feel like layering this over those two colors gave them depth and (of course) insane glitter; it just looks so cool! πŸ˜€

Yes, I think it plays well under the deeper, emerald-type hues. I agree with you that it has more depth when layered. That’s probably the only way I’m going to wear it.

You are incredible with your millions of pictures in all different light levels!!! That’s awesome. I love this polish and can’t wait till I get my Muppets glitter set. And I love what you said about glitter- if you don’t wanna do the time, don’t do the crime! Haha… I always put some polish remover in the bottle’s cap and soak my glittery nails in there for a few minutes before giving them a good rub down with a soaked cotton ball. I once rubbed a thin spot in my thumbnail removing the OPI Shimmer Into Summer Ulta Exclusive polish! But it was totally worth it πŸ˜‰ If your nails are yellow even though you use a base coat, you should try soaking them in denture cleaner. I heard that whitens them right up. Mine used to be super yellow, and I was going to try that but then I started making sure to wear a base coat and the yellowishness went away. Yeah… yellowishness… it’s a technical term. Ha. Anyway, I love all your pictures. Your site was what made me decide “Yes! I MUST have the Muppet collection.” Thanks!

Thank you! I’m glad that you appreciate all the photos in various lighting. I really try hard to share with you how they look to help people decide if it’s right for them.

I’ve never tried putting remover in the cap and then soaking my nails that way. Good to hear that it works for you. And good tip about the denture cleaner! Hehe, I haven’t tried that let alone thought of it. Although, I would feel a little silly buying denture cleaner. πŸ˜›

Hi, from the muppets collection which one is the best for you? I decided to buy one but I’m confused between the rainbow connection or fresh Frog of bel air. Please give me some suggestion. >.<

      Hey monika!

If you have the choice between Rainbow Connection and Fresh Frog of Bel Air, I would recommend Rainbow Connection. Although both look better as layering polishes, I think Rainbow Connection is more versatile because it really can be worn over so many different base colours. Hope that helps!

My favourites from The Muppets Collection in general are Rainbow Connection and Warm & Fozzie. Those were the two standouts for me.
