Neutrogena Light Night Cream Review & Pictures

Neutrogena Light Night Cream Review & PicturesSince I was running out of moisturizer and there was a sale at my local grocery store, I picked up the Neutrogena Light Night Cream.

It sounded promising because I don’t like heavy moisturizers, but I wanted something that would still add some hydration when I needed it.

I wasn’t crazy about the tub packaging, but I thought I’d try it anyway.

Okay, so really the sale was a huge motivating factor. I’m not loyal to any brand when it comes to moisturizer, and I also tend to try out inexpensive ones a lot.

Usually I end up disappointed, but it hasn’t stopped me from testing the water.

If you know of any great night moisturizers, please let me know. I’m on the hunt to find a good one (this wasn’t it).

Neutrogena Light Night Cream Review

Fragrance

My nose is sensitive, but it doesn’t smell like much to me. It does smell like a cream, but it’s not perfume-y or medicine-y. It has a very mild scent.

Consistency

For a ‘light’ night cream, it sure does have a thick consistency. But, okay, most night creams tend to be on the thick side. After all, they’re supposed to moisturize your skin while you’re sleeping (and hopefully you’re sleeping for at least 6 hours each night).

What I really dislike is that it feels very greasy on my face. Even after taking my time to rub it in, it feels sticky! After an hour, my skin still feels tacky to the touch, and that really makes me uncomfortable.

It’s hard to sleep with something greasy on your face, especially if you’re like me and tend to move around a lot when you’re sleeping. It gets all over your pillow. We’re not talking about staining your pillow, but when your face touches your pillow, it feels gross.

Efficacy

Yes, it does make my skin feel more supple in the morning when I’ve applied this the night before, but I wouldn’t say that it’s by any means miraculous. I could get this level of hydration with your average moisturizer.

Also worth noting is that it didn’t break me out. Some moisturizers that feel this greasy can definitely clog pores and set up the party for a zit fiesta.

Packaging

I’m not a fan of tubs, but it seems like a lot of drugstore moisturizers come in tubs. It’s most likely because it’s cheaper to manufacture the container than to include a pump.

The reason I don’t like it is because it’s just not hygienic – you have to keep dipping your finger right into the product over and over again. Even if you wash your hands right before using it (like I always do), your fingers still have natural oils that are bound to end up in the product and then transfer onto your face.

    Pros

  • Non-comedogenic
  • Doesn’t smell like much
  • A little goes a long way
  • Hydrates skin
  • Goes on sale fairly often
  • Easy to find
    Cons

  • Doesn’t feel light
  • Feels greasy
  • Tub is not the most hygienic

Final Verdict: 6.5/10

This will work for now, but after I’m done this tub, I’ll once again try a new moisturizer in hopes that I find my Holy Grail. Sigh!

What moisturizer are you using at night? How much is the most you’ve paid for a moisturizer?

I personally have a love-hate relationship with Neutrogena. Some products work for me while others break me out horribly so I’ve learned to skip them altogether.

You have to try the Shiseido night moisturizer from their skincare line. I swear by it. It can get a bit pricey tho but I can let you know when they’ll have their warehouse sale and you can get it for relatively cheaper ($30). πŸ™‚

I’m also loving the night moisturizer from the Body Shop in their Vitamin E line for $18. It’s a little on the heavier side tho so that might not be your thing, but it’s a great cheaper alternative. Will let you know if I come across anything that’s easier on the pocket. πŸ˜€

      Hey Carmela!

I haven’t tried a lot of Neutrogena products, but the few that I have were just so-so. Mainly what attracts me to try this brand in the first place is always the price because they go on sale. I really don’t mind paying more if a product works well. That being said, hehe, I’m not interested in moisturizers that cost over a $100. Too rich for this poor peasant’s blood!

That Shiseido moisturizer would definitely be something I’d want to try, especially if I can get it at the warehouse sale! πŸ™‚

i live and die by Pond’s Dry Skin Creme. It goes on heavy but is wicked into the skin and then feels light and smooth. i’m insane about the ‘feeling’ of dry skin on my face and hands and a tiny dab will do ya, with this moisturizer! i’ve been using it since 1998, and i constantly get compliments on my skin. it works wonders for hands too. available at shoppers, walmart, etc, i think it is about seven or eight dollars and a jar lasts months and months. it is a jar though, so you have to dip in. my mom uses the same creme now and she uses a q-tip to get the product from the jar! anyway- i cannot sing the praises of pond’s dry skin creme enough! i hope if you try it, you like it! cheers!

      Hey Rae!

Wow, yeah, I can tell that you really love it because you’ve been using it for such a long time. Must be good. Not a fan of tubs, but maybe I can deal with it if it works really well for me. And that price can’t be beat. I may just have to pick this up when my tub of this crap is done. Haha!

And I just took a look at First Class on you – LOVE IT! You definitely rocked it! πŸ˜€

I haven’t found any that I stick to either so far, I’ve been continuously trying new ones. Funny enough though, I actually wanted to try neutrogena light night cream again. My mom used to bring that back to the family when she worked for them and I used it once in a while in highschool (but i never moisturized properly bahh) and i remember it making my skin soft.

I think the problem I have is my skin tone seems to have changed from simply oily to dry AND oily since getting into college— Nooo idea how to deal with it!

      Hey Lulu!

Some people like this moisturizer, but I can’t get past the stickiness and the greasiness. Even if it hydrates your skin, I don’t like the feeling of it on my face. Maybe I could try using just a teeny tiny amount, but really…I don’t use all that much already.

Yeah, I understand how frustrating it is for your skin type to change. My skin used to be normal, then it became combination-oily, then it was dry, now it’s combination-oily, but some days it’s still dry (as we head into fall). Hehe, I feel like I need a bunch of different products to manage my moody skin!

      Hey Mellinail!

Thanks for the suggestion. πŸ™‚ I’ll definitely have to compare Vichy, Shiseido, and Pond’s once I’m done this big Neutrogena tub!

Hello! Clinique has wonderful skincare products for younger skin -20’s and 30’s. The moisturzer that is part of their 3-step skincare system was ALWAYS an excellent go-to for me when I was younger- Lightweight, non-greasy, I swore by it. Good Luck in finding your perfect product, dear.

I was curious about the Dramatically Different Moisturizer. Oh, so many brands and products to try in the future. πŸ™‚ Thank you for the suggestion!

I heard that gel-based moisturizers are best for oily skin because they provide light hydration. Garnier and Clinique have gel ones that I’ve read good things about. Never tried them, though.

    Creams… another avenue I haven’t ventured in… really… I am sort of a makeup/cream hobbit of sorts…
I’m glad you feature awesome products as well as some of the “flops”… and from the sounds of it this was a bit of a flop… you don’t want to rest down for your beauty sleep and wake up with the pillow greased to your face :)… πŸ˜€ Sigh… maybe with my entrance into 30 I will have to think of moisturizing those wrinkles… πŸ™‚

      Hey Marta!

      Ahahaha…”makeup/cream hobbit” – that’s a funny description! πŸ˜› I like it!

Sometimes I feel bad about busting a product on here, but if it’s really not great, I’d like to warm people so they can save their money and use it toward something more worthwhile.

I’ll be turning 30 soon enough and I still haven’t used a single anti-aging product. Well, I tried it a few times when I was NINE just because I was curious to see what my mom was putting on her face. But I think I should look into it now that I’m getting older. So far, I’ve ramped up my daily SPF level to 50, so that should help a bit, too. I’m not afraid of aging, but I just don’t want to look like I’m 80 when I turn 30. πŸ˜› (Actually, I still get carded! It’s pretty ridiculous because I don’t think I look like a teenager!)

I don’t think that moisturizer is non-comedogenic because I see more than one pore clogger in the first few ingredients (and ethyhexyl palmitate is super pore clogging). I’m not a fan of jar/tub packaging either. Even though I have acne-prone skin, I’m always on the lookout for super thick, ultra hydrating moisturizers, so I don’t normally test any that have “light” in the title. So I don’t have any suggestions for you:(

      Hey Jeni!

Hmm…guess I was lucky then that it didn’t break me out. Good point that you bring up. I’m not so savvy about specific pore-clogging ingredients. If something claims to be non-comedogenic and doesn’t break me out, I tend to just believe their claim. Thank you for pointing this out!

      Hey Sheila!

They’re still selling this product. I checked Neutrogena’s official website, and it’s there. Hmm, it’s possible that it was pulled from the stores in your local area. (That has happened to me a long time ago for a different product.)

Have you checked with the staff at your local store? Maybe there’s a delay in the shipment, or it really has been discontinued there.

I’m not sure if it’s still available where I am, as I haven’t looked for it and don’t use it since I switched to Shiseido skincare products.

      Hey Sheila!

Are you enjoying this moisturizer? You didn’t find it greasy, despite it being called a light cream?

I remember back when I wrote this post, I wasn’t a big fan of it. Since then, I’ve started using other skincare products that have worked better for me. My favourite skincare is by Shiseido, but I’ve been also trying a few different brands to find out what works for me the best.
