Misa Girls’ Night Out Swatches & Review

Misa Girls' Night Out Swatches & ReviewAlthough I have a bunch of Misa nail polishes in my stash, it dawned on me that I hadn’t swatched and reviewed one on here.

Back when I first started collecting nail polish more seriously (in 2008), I used to buy Misa polishes a lot. (Haven’t bought one in a long time…ever since I saw the unnecessarily sexual promo picture for their I’m Only Human Collection.)

Today I bring you Misa Girls’ Night Out! Believe it or not, this is the first time I’ve worn it in all these years.

I got it because on other people, it looked like a bright purple. But, as you can see, on me it’s actually a berry-toned pink. Pretty, but not a colour I wear often because it usually doesn’t do anything for me. Love the super-shininess of it, though!

Please bear with me. The sun didn’t come out the entire time I wore this, so I can only really show you pictures in dim natural lighting (which makes my photos grainy) and with flash (which makes the colours look brighter than in real life).

Misa Girls’ Night Out Review

Colour

In the bottle, it looks like a bright purple. They say it’s ‘neon’, but all the ‘neon purples’ never look neon to me, just bright. It’s nowhere near as blinding as something like China Glaze Kiwi Cool-Ada or Essie Funky Limelight!

I bought this because I wanted a vivid purple. Instead, I got a berry-toned pink! I’m not crazy about pinks in general – most make my hands look dirty. But this is a saturated pink that I can wear.

I’ve seen some swatches online where other beauty bloggers have worn it and it looks more purple, so maybe they have a different undertone than I do. (I’m not really good at determining undertones, which is obvious…haha, since I can’t figure out how to wear pink polish!)

Finish

Despite the colour being a disappointment, the finish was a pleasant surprise! Normally polishes that are promoted as being neon tend to go on very sheer and dry to a matte finish prior to applying a top coat. This baby didn’t dry matte, and it also didn’t dry super shiny – somewhere in between.

The cool thing is that this polish has a jelly-ish finish! It doesn’t dry super-shiny, but when you put on a top coat, you’ll see that it seems to have more depth than a flat creme polish. It was so ridiculously shiny that I could literally see my reflection very clearly on my nails! Crazzzzzzyyy! If I wanted to apply lipgloss, I swear I could use the reflection on my fingernails to aid me!

Application & Formula

The best surprise of all, though, was that the formula is absolutely perfect! This is what all polishes should be like. It’s smooth like butter! It flows onto the nail exactly where you want it to. And it’s fairly opaque in just 2 coats, which is rare for a neon. (I say ‘fairly opaque’ because you can still see a bit of Visible Nail Line since this is a bit jellyish.)

Out of all the polishes that I’ve showed you on Swatch And Learn, I’d have to say that this one has the best formula. That is really saying something! Whatever Misa Cosmetics did, they knocked it out of the park! (Now if only they could’ve made this purple like they advertised…hehe!)

Ingredients

I didn’t see the ingredients listed on the bottle, so unfortunately I can’t share this information with you. This time it’s not because the etailer removed the label (like they do now). I think Misa polishes just don’t show the ingredients. Please leave a comment and correct me if I’m wrong.

Pros

  • Perfect, smooth formula
  • With a top coat, it becomes super shiny & you can see your reflection clearly on your nails!
Cons

  • Not a neon purple as advertised (It’s actually a berry pink)
  • No ingredients listed

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

This polish would’ve received a perfect score if it was actually a neon purple instead of a berry pink. Colour aside, this polish was a dream to work with! I wish all polishes could apply so easily like this did.

Have you ever bought a polish, tried it on, and were disappointed that it wasn’t what you expected? What polish have you tried that had the best application? Do you like jelly polishes?

      Hey Kimberly!

Misa is pretty hard to get hold of, but recently they brought them to Trade Secrets (at least here in Canada). Their formula isn’t always perfect like this one. I’ve tried a couple of their other polishes that were just average. This one is just perfection! Can’t rave about it enough. 😀

I am a big fan of the Misa formula – they probably have the best formula of any polish I’ve ever tried and they last absolutely forever on me. It’s awesome indeed!
Mary, does your polish have the label on the bottom? All of my Misas have a label on the bottom and it says “Peel Here” in the corner, underneath is the ingredients.
This is definitely a berry pink on you, but very pretty regardless. I’ve definitely picked up polishes based on swatches and had them look differently on me, but I don’t have this one, so I can’t help you with the undertone thing on this one – but I do believe that has something to do with that. And your natural light photos look good to me! 🙂

      Hey Nicole!

This bottle has a label, but it doesn’t say Peel Here in the corner. The photo in this post is the only label my bottle has. Hmm…I bought this a long time ago when Trans Design didn’t remove labels suspiciously. Or maybe they did it for Misa polishes before and I just didn’t know. In any case, my bottle only has one label on the bottom.

Where did you buy your Misas from? I wonder if it’s just a Trans Design thing. All of mine are from there back in the day.

Aww…I’m glad that you think my natural light photos look good. On my screen, they tend to look grainier than ones I capture in sunlight. I like my camera, but it doesn’t perform as well in natural light. Many years down the road, I’m going to invest in a digital SLR…That would be a dream camera for me.

The more I hear about Trans Design, the more I’m becoming uncomfortable buying from them. I’m not going to promote them (or Nailsupplies…the other company they own) anymore in my “Where to Buy” sections. They should ship merchandise that doesn’t have tampered labels! Makes me wonder why they need to be so shady…

      Hey Bregje!

Thanks! Definitely something out of what I typically wear. Do you wear a lot of berry-toned pinks? Have any that you love?

      Hey Katherine!

Thanks! 🙂 Yes, it is definitely a shame. I think it’s because I tend to buy lots of polishes at once, so even if I wore a new polish each day, I still wouldn’t be able to wear each one. Kind of scary when I think about it…but also exciting, too. 😛

      Hey Alexis!

For some reason, with purples, they’re never really neon. When it comes to pinks, greens, oranges, and yellow, I never have trouble finding true neons. (The ones from the China Glaze Poolside Collection are my favourites! Sooooo blindingly bright!)

      You’re very welcome! 😀

Very pretty! I like how it’s bright but not bright enough to be super neon; well in my comfort zone. 😉

I’ve never tried any Misa polishes altho I did notice some at the Trade Secrets in Fairview. I’m very intrigued about that super shiny finish, but is it in the core collection? I’m looking at expanding the number of jelly polishes in my collection (which just sadly numbers at 1!).

      Hey Carmela!

Hmm…I think it was part of a limited-time collection, but it’s a colour that seems to be easily accessible online. I’m not sure if they put it in their core collection afterwards. The last time I went to Trade Secrets, it was a while ago and they just had the latest collection – the one with glass flecks.

If you want a great red jelly that’s also a dream to apply, OPI Vodka & Caviar is amazing. Since it’s a jelly, you’ll have Visible Nail Lines, but it’s so squishy-looking! Not too many reds make my heart race (unless they’re glittery like China Glaze Ruby Pumps), but Vodka & Caviar really impressed me!

I don’t mind VNL as much as goopy polish. I do love that squishy factor so much that I can forgive the VNL. 🙂 Thanks for the head’s up! Will be on the look out for that one.

      Hey mellinail!

      Thank you! 😀

Yeah, Joe Fresh has great colours and affordable prices. When I first tried their polish, I didn’t expect much, so I was really surprised how great the formula was.

      Hey Ruthe!

Guess I’m very demanding…haha, polish diva here, because I wanted it to be even brighter. 😛 I, did, love the incredible formula, though!

      Hey Scrangie!

Every time you’ve left a comment on my blog, I have a nerdy-fan-freak-out moment, just so you know! I don’t get excited about singers or actors. But Scrangie? Makes me go, “Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh!” I’m always so excited that my favourite beauty blogger visits Swatch And Learn. 😀 Thank you!
