New Blog Feature: Smorgasbord Sundays

Welcome to a new Swatch And Learn blog feature: Smorgasbord Sundays!

Smorgasbord Sundays Swatch And Learn

The themes are randomness and variety! Starting next week, every Sunday’s post will feature anything such as a photograph, a vegetarian recipe, a question for you, something I read, a music video, a little about myself, etc.

Yes, I still do love reviewing products for you, designing nail art, and swatching polishes. This blog will remain beauty-oriented.

But on Sundays, let’s kick back on Swatch And Learn’s hammock! It’s the weekend, after all, and maybe it’ll soften those next-day Monday Blues.

I feel that Smorgasbord Sundays will help us get to know each other better. Interacting with you all is a blast, and I make it a point to reply to every single comment so that you know your voice is heard.

Please let me know what you think about this new feature, or even just leave a comment about anything like what you’re up to today, what’s the last book you read, etc.

I’ll try Smorgasbord Sundays for a bit, and we’ll see how we all like it.

And…in case you were curious, the frogs depicted in the Smorgasbord Sundays graphic are some of my favourite home-decor items.

Bought them a few years ago because the set looked cute, and I thought I’d like drinking tea if I could pour it out of a frog teapot. (Yes, I am a kid at heart.) Unfortunately when I brought it home and washed it, the sticker on the bottom said it was ‘for decoration purposes only’. Oh boo…But at least I enjoy looking at it. And now I can share it with you!

Do you also have any home-decor items you love that really serve no purpose except to look at? 😛

      Hey Maribeth!

I LOVE owls – necklaces, t-shirts, pictures, etc. Hehe, I saw that Bath & Body Works has a new owl plug-in for their Wallflowers, and even though I’ve never used Wallflowers, I considered it just because of the owl! 😛

Hahahaha, pictures of mustaches! That’s hilarious, and it sounds really cool. I’d be one of those people looking at all the mustaches on your fridge…(as strange as that sentence might sound out of context. :P) It’s not like you see that all the time. And there are so many different styles of mustaches.

Have you seen those funny mustache necklaces? You’d get a kick out of them. 🙂

I love frogs! I have several frog teapots, frog pitchers, sugar and creamer sets, salt and pepper sets, candleholders, etc. I’d like to get some frog canisters, but I haven’t found any I like yet. I really like your frog tea set!

      Hey Natalie!

Just saw your frog manicure – it’s so adorable! I really like how you not only have frogs, but lily pads, flowers, and even the insects for the frogs to eat! Very creative idea!

Hehe, one time when I had my mom’s cat over here (Pingu – I was catsitting for her while she was on vacation), he kept trying to kiss the big frog teapot. 😛 I think he thought it was a frog prince…hehe, but Pingu’s no princess. So it’ll probably turn into a toad teapot one of these days. 😛

So adorable! I’m a sucker for cute decor items. If only they were functional (even though I don’t drink tea much)!

At my house there are lots of items that have no purpose besides looking at them. Recently we got these signs with cute Disney quotes. One of them says “Home is the comfiest place to be” (Winnie The Pooh). 🙂

      Hey Katie!

Aww…Winnie the Pooh! Reminds me of great childhood memories. I remember watching and loving the Winnie the Pooh movies. And when I was a kid, I loved honey on toast for breakfast. My mom used to make jokes about me being Winnie the Pooh.

Who was your favourite character? I liked Winnie the Pooh, of course, but Eeyore made me laugh because he’s such a grump!

Too bad they can’t be used for actual tea. They’d look so cute! 🙂

If you’re familiar with pon and zi (http://www.ponandzi.com/image.php?img=3), my hubby and I loved them so much that we commissioned an Etsy seller to knit us plushie replicas that we had our florist use in our wedding car decorations. We kept them, of course, and they’re now sitting in a glass case in our bookshelf. 😀

PS. Love this new feature! Saves me from temptation! 😉

      Hey Carmela!

Yeah, it’s too bad. I would’ve loved to pull out the set when friends come over.

Actually I didn’t know about Pon and Zi by name, but when I took a look at the link you included, I do recognize the characters. I can just picture how cool those one-of-a-kinds were! That’s a really fun memento to have and remember the good times. 🙂

Haha, I’m glad that you’re enjoying Smorgasbord Sundays. And, yes, it’s good to save at least one day from temptation. 😛

      Hey Amber!

It’s so good to hear that you like this idea. I was a little worried that some readers might not like it because it’s a departure from the usual beauty talk. But I really think it’s good to share fun things outside beauty so we can get to know each other a bit more. 🙂

Awww….I love how your kitchen is farm-themed! Very cute!

I really like the idea of Smorgasbord Sundays! I have a TON of purely-for-looks home decor items; I’m a sucker for them! I think I inherited my love of home decor from my mom, because she also collects a lot of useless but pretty decor. Most of the home decor I get have to do with pigs, as I am the year of the Pig in Chinese astrology. I have this metal pig sculpture that has crystal-encrusted ears and opens to become a little container! I love it! ;D

      Hey Ruthe!

Yay – so happy that you like the Smorgasbord Sundays feature. 😀

Hehe…that pig sculpture sounds adorable! And I love how most of your home decor is of pigs – OINK!

My farm is farm themed. My usless decorations would be all things horse related. I have been a horse-a-holic since I could talk

Anything that makes you happy is a thing of beauty.

I have always wanted to collect something. So I decided it would be Pie Birds. 3 years later I still haven’t found any. I thught up several other items to collect and never could find them. So now I have taken the easy route. I am collecting nail polish. It has to be bargin priced though. I just can’t make myself buy the more expensive stuff. Though the DL Ruby Slippers may be my downfall

      Hey Paula!

Did you ever ride a horse? I’ve only ridden ponies (at the zoo) when I was little and then a few horses at a stable when I was in elementary school during one of our retreats. It’s really fun when they walk or trot, but I get really terrified when they start galloping. I’m so afraid that I’m gonna fall off the saddle especially because I don’t have the best balance and because I’m a small woman…haha!

Yeah, Deborah Lippmann polishes are incredible. I don’t own one yet (Across the Universe is on my wish list), but from all the swatches I’ve seen of them, she puts out some pretty unique shades. And even the bottle design looks so lavish.

The major expensive polish I splurged on was Clarins 230 – totally worth it! No regrets! 😀 That is amazing and a company needs to come out with a dupe of it. They’d make some serious bank, yo! 😛

I have ridden since I was about 5. We have 8 horses. 5 are Paso Fino’s, 3 are Apps. I don’t ride as much as I should but I do ride a fair amount. I’m small too. We also have 10 dogs, 6 cats and about 30 free range chickens. We call it a farm, but it has a zoo like quality to it

I don’t know that I could apply the polish well enough to do it justice. I pretty much just paint from my knuckles down 😉

Wow, you are so lucky that you get to enjoy so many animals. Sounds like a lot of work to take care of them all, but also tons of fun!

I’m really glad that your chickens are free-range. 🙂 Whenever I buy eggs, I always buy the free-run eggs. I can eat them with a clearer conscience.

Oh, I’m sure you’d do the polish justice. And a manicure doesn’t have to be perfect anyway. 🙂 If you love the colour, you should wear it. If anyone tells you otherwise, don’t listen to them! Polish should be fun and all about making you happy. Plus the more you practice, the more confident you’ll become. (And also more addicted you’ll become, too. Shh… :P)
