Whenever I eat veggie dogs (vegetarian hot dogs) or veggie burgers (vegetarian burgers), I always have to put ketchup, relish, and mustard on it.
I prefer the Dijon mustard because it has that little kick to it that mixes well with the other flavours.
Are you a fan of mustard? Even if you don’t like eating it, perhaps you’ll like wearing it.
(No, I’m not gonna start a food fight. Don’t worry! :P)
China Glaze Trendsetter is a very unusual (but really cool-looking) mustard yellow that has a touch of green to it!
I really like it, but I don’t think it looks so hot on me. I dunno…what do you think?

China Glaze Trendsetter Review
Colour
Trendsetter by China Glaze is a mustard yellow that has a retro vibe. There are also yellow flecks that add dimension to this colour that could easily look flat otherwise.
I also think that there’s a hint of green in this that makes the yellow dirtier…but not in a bad way! 🙂
Finish
This glass-fleck polish dries smooth instead of gritty.
Application & Formula
Trendsetter was on the thick side, but it wasn’t hard to work with like dried glue. It was easier to paint with than China Glaze Skyscraper, and it was also very opaque.
I tried it without a top coat to see if it would dry shiny or dull. You’ll be pleased to know that it dries shiny by itself.
Ingredients
Unfortunately the ingredients label was already removed when I purchased this, so I can’t tell you any specifics. What I do know is that China Glaze’s new formula is Big-3-Free (i.e. free of Formaldehyde, Toluene, and DBP).

Final Verdict: 8/10
If you want to wear a non-traditional colour on your nails, this is the colour to rock. You don’t see it every day, and it has a cool vintage vibe.
Do you shy away from wearing yellow nail polish? Has a yellow polish ever badly stained your nails?
Hands down one of the best photos of this shade ive seen to date!
I agree. “HOT”! 😉

Hey Marta!
Oh my gosh – really? *Blush* Realllly? Do you know how much that means to me? Seriously? I’m gushing now! Thank you sooooooo much for saying that! 😀 Weeeeeeeeeee! (Sorry for being weird about it, but I’m so happy!)
I love how it’s one of those pretty/ugly colors that you know you don’t have in your stash (hence the need to own it). 🙂 The shimmer definitely adds depth too. Very nice!
Hey Carmela!
With all the shades out there, it always boggles my mind how companies can still somehow create such unique colours. It must be very difficult, but I like how they took a chance with this one. And, yes, I definitely felt a very strong need to own it because I didn’t have anything like it. Darn it! 😉
True, true!
Btw, It’s My Year is the glowiness I needed on this gloomy, gray Wednesday. 🙂 Applied like butter, absolute love. 😀
Yes, it’s such a gloomy day today. But so far Friday and Sunday are supposed to be mainly sunny days. Hope that doesn’t change when it comes closer…but it usually does.
I’m so happy to hear that you like It’s My Year so much! 😀 Good thing that location still had some left. That probably was the case only because of the poor product placement (near the ground!). But that was good for you! 😉
It certainly is an usual color! I really like it though. It helps that I have nothing in my stash like it. Great pictures!

Hey Katie!
Glad you like it, too. And hopefully you can pull it off better than I can. By itself, I really love it, but I do think it’s a bit off on my hands.
Thank you for commenting on the photos! 😀 To be honest, taking the photos, cropping, and resizing images is what takes the most work. So I’m glad you appreciate it. YAY!
This is very cool! Love it on you 🙂 And mustard & relish def come to mind! ahaha

Hey Maribeth!
Oh, thank you! 🙂 I didn’t think it looked so great on me, but if you love it on me, maybe it’s better than I thought.
Just looked at your recent post. I wonder if Lady Like would look alright on me considering my fear or neutrals. Haha! This whole collection looks fantastic on you.
You should totally go for Lady Like….It’s neutral but not so much so that it washes you out, know what I mean? 🙂 I would love to see it on you!!!

I may try it. Haven’t bought an Essie polish in a long time. I’ll keep my eyes peeled like a banana for Lady Like. Really need to see it in person because I have a hard time figuring out which neutrals work for my skin tone even when I’m looking at great swatches like yours. I literally need to put the bottle up against my hand…haha!
It’s definitely one of those ugly pretty colors. It’s very unusual and different. I’ve never seen a color like it before. That being said, I’d probably give it a try but I’m not sure if I’d end up actually liking it. I haven’t seen any of this collection yet and I’m really sad because I really want Midtown Magic and Skyscraper for sure. I might just have to order them online eventually.
Hey Melissa!
Colours like this always convince me to buy them just so I can try them out and maybe rediscover a new shade to become obsessed about. 😛
Yeah, it’s also difficult for me to find new China Glaze collections in person. Sally’s only has the core colours here. I’ve always bought China Glaze polish online, now that I think about it. Wish I could see them in person so I wouldn’t have to pay for shipping and handling.
I’ve only gotten one China Glaze online from 8ty8Beauty and it was Midnight Mission. My sister is a licensed cosmetologist so most of my China Glazes have come from beauty supply stores that only they can shop at, since she use to take me with her a lot. I’ve only gotten a few from Sally’s. They have a good selection, just not always the colors I want. I’ll definitely be repurchasing from 8ty8beauty or even Transdesign. They have an amazing selection. I’m just not a huge fan of the shipping. It’s not too expensive but when you’re buying bottles that cost less then $3, you sort of have to buy enough to make it worth it. With 8ty8Beauty I had a hard time narrowing my choices down to just four bottles.
Nice choice – I love Midnight Mission! 🙂
Oh, you’re so lucky that your sister is a licensed cosmetologist! I bet she gets to save a lot of money on makeup and polish.
Hmm…a new thing I’ve noticed when I order from TransDesign is that they remove the label with the ingredients. I don’t like that because I can’t share this important piece of information with you and other readers. They didn’t use to do it before. But they now only do it on China Glaze colours where there are two labels – a peel-off one for the ingredients. The older colours where there was only one label…those are left in tact by TransDesign. I really wonder why this is.
I haven’t ordered from 8ty8Beauty or Head2Toe in a while. Do you know if they remove ingredient labels, too?
My sister’s definitely saved me a lot of money because of her being a cosmetologist. She’s not into nail polish the way I am, so she never got the same excitement as I did. I wouldn’t surprised if I bugged her by wanting to go all the time haha. But I can’t help it. After I went once I never liked having to pay full price for nail polish when I knew I could easily get it and other things for cheaper.
Hm, that’s weird. Are there suppose to be two labels on a regular China Glaze bottle? I guess I never knew that haha. So basically your bottles look like the one in your review? It’s kind of weird that Transdesign would remove the ingredients. My order from 8ty8Beauty was in May and the China Glaze had the ingredient label just like any other bottle I’ve seen before. To be honest I was a little iffy about buying from Transdesign because there was a Color Club color I wanted which was Fashion Addict. It’s holographic but they listed it as “not holographic color.” Which is odd because there’s only one version of it, or so I thought. I was worried I’d get a dud. That’s mostly why I went with 8ty8Beauty, plus the shipping was a tad cheaper for me.
Heh…I think that if I were a cosmetologist and got discounts on polish, there would be no number of therapy sessions that could bring me back down to earth!
I think the newer China Glazes have two labels. One has the ingredients and one just has the colour name and number. If anyone else is reading this, please confirm or correct! 🙂 The old bottles I have just had one label (that had everything on it), so TransDesign didn’t remove it. Also, I notice that they also file the serial number on the glass. I don’t like that, either, because it makes the bottle look ugly. They didn’t used to do this years ago, either.
Oh yeah, I heard that there are two versions of Color Club Fashion Addict. The original was holographic and then there’s another non-holographic one floating around (the new version). I thought it was something on Color Club’s end, though, not TransDesign.
I read a while back on numerous sites about the serial numbers being scratched out and I’m still confused about why they do it. I guess it has something to do with tracking. I’m not too sure though! Some people on different forums were discussing scratched serial numbers on OPI bottles and discussing whether or not it makes it a fake.
Well then I’m glad I didn’t buy it from Transdesign. I didn’t get it from 8ty8beauty since I slightly wanted Wild At Heart and Revvvolution more. But Fashion Addict is still on my list. I guess I just love holographic colors so I would have been sad to get the shimmer version.
Wild At Heart is gorgeous! Strangely, I only used it in my Holographic Rainbow Leopard nail art and never solo. And I have Revvvolution, but haven’t worn it, either. I think I’m going to be 80 years old and even then I still won’t get around to trying all my polishes! That makes me happy and sad at the same time. *Sigh*
I think Wild At Heart is my favorite color which is a lot to say because I have so many that I love. But I don’t know, something about it just makes my heart melt. It’s the perfect shade of purple and holographic too. You can’t really go wrong. I haven’t worn Revvvolution yet, just did a swatch on my finger and it’s not as holographic as I expected when I took it in the sunlight. I don’t know if it’s a dud or that’s just normally how it is.
Haha! I don’t have that many bottles of nail polish, but enough right now to carry me through the rest of the year and a little bit of the next. No one can understand why I buy more when I still have tons to go.
Don’t say no one. I can understand! 😉 Hehe, we’re bad influences for each other…and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Honestly!!! This is a tough shade to photograph and you did it JUSTICE!!! you can take that to the bank… My imaginary nailpolish bank that is 😉 aaaand, your hotdog intro… This colour is literally that: like mixing Dijon mustard with relish… Isn’t it!!! Awesome! You should retweet this to @ChinaGlaze 😉

Hey Marta!
I really appreciate you saying that. 😀
Hehe, more like I’m taking lint to my bank because of all the money I’ve spent buying nail polish. 😛 (“But it’s worth it!” She says while dipping her slice of stale bread into unfiltered water. JUST KIDDING! 😛 I’m not that far gone…phew!)
I really love this color because it is sooo different. I have seen this on several blogs, and I want it!

Hey imfeelingnailventurous!
You should get it – definitely it’s a unique colour worth owning, especially for a collector.
I keep reading on blogs that this is a shade that is mostly UGLY and that appeal to minority. I agree with the minority thing but not with the UGLY! Look at you! It glitters and shines, and that shade, although weird and original looks awesome in every skin color I’ve seen it being swatched.

Hey Marcia!
It’s definitely an unconventional colour. Some people just aren’t used to seeing this shade (let alone wear it on their nails). I think that’s really what’s holding them back. But if they give it a chance, they might be pleasantly surprised. It’s surely a colour that people seem to either love or hate. Haven’t seen many in betweens.
I actually think that this colour looks better on people who have lighter or richer skin tones than mine. But especially richer skin tones. This colour would really pop!
I love this color!!! I thought it was just OK, but when I saw it in person on Friday, I almost died from the prettiness!!! I bought it but I really want to wait until my nails grow out for me to wear it. And it looks great on you too!

Yeah, this colour isn’t your typical garden variety…which makes it even better! 🙂 You’re going to enjoy wearing it. Such a unique colour.
