For a while, I wanted to create Cookie Monster Nails. But it was only until now that I went ahead and did it.
These don’t exactly look like Cookie Monster, though, so I’ll say that they’re inspired by him. 🙂
Only after I started painting did I Google photos of other people’s Cookie Monster nail art, and I kinda wish I looked first because my attempt would’ve turned out better.
Had I not painted my entire nail blue and allowed the googly eyes to sit on top of the blue part, it would’ve looked more like the fun Sesame Street character. If you’re confused, check out the link at the bottom of my post. I’ll show you how someone else did it and how hers look more recognizable.
I still really like this manicure because it’s silly, and I think it’s really fun to have smiling faces on my fingertips.
What do you think? Would you try this? Should I try some other Sesame Street characters?

*~* Cookie Monster Nails Tutorial *~*
What I Used:
- Nail Tek Foundation II Base Coat
- Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
- Milani Dude Blue (This was sent to me by PR. It’s not the perfect Cookie Monster blue, but I like how bright & cheerful it is. You can find it at Cherry Culture.)
- OPI Alpine Snow
- OPI Espresso Your Style!
- China Glaze Hybrid
- China Glaze Liquid Leather
- NYX Ink Nail Art Black
- Piece of foil
- Nail-art brush
Pick the colors you want to use, and get all your supplies ready. Be sure to unscrew the polish bottles so you’re not struggling to open them when your nails are wet.
Step 1: Apply your favorite base coat
Step 2: Paint all your nails blue except for your ring finger, which should be a light brown
Here I used Milani Neon polish in Dude Blue. It’s not actually neon – in real life, it’s much darker than my below photos with flash. On my ring finger, I chose a shimmery light brown, China Glaze Hybrid.
Allow this to dry for a good 15 minutes.
Quickie Milani Dude Blue Review
I’ve never actually come across a neon blue that was actually neon-burn-your-retinas-blue. Normally they’re just really bright blues. Milani Dude Blue is no exception – it’s bright (and the camera flash makes it brighter), but I don’t really consider it to be neon.
The formula was thick, and it was opaque in a single coat. However, I used 2 coats out of habit. I noticed that unlike most neons that dry matte, this dried with a satin finish…not quite shiny, but not dull, either.
Overall, I think this color is pretty and summery. The formula is okay, but not buttery smooth. I do like it, though, and will probably wear it again.
Edit: When I removed this polish, I found out that it stains the skin. Be prepared to have Smurfy cuticles and fingers when you take this off. But don’t worry – it’s not permanently stained. If you wash your hands with soap and warm water a few times, it will come off.
Step 3: Add black circles for eyes
Add a few drops of black polish onto your piece of foil. If you have a large dotting tool, use it. Since I don’t have one, I used the handle of my nail-art brush.
I used China Glaze Liquid Leather.
Step 4: Create the chocolate chips
Put some of the dark-brown polish onto the piece of foil. Use your nail-art brush to paint on random and irregular round shapes. You could use a dotting tool to create brown circles, but I liked the look of chocolate chips that aren’t perfect circles. Do what you prefer! 🙂
I used OPI Espresso Your Style!, which is a deep shimmery brown.
Step 5: Add eye whites
Add some white polish to your piece of foil. Using either your large dotting tool or a brush handle, add slightly smaller white circles inside the black ones you created earlier.
I used OPI Alpine Snow.
Step 6: Add pupils and smiles
Use your dotting tool to create the pupils. For the mouths, you can use your nail-art brush, but since I had a nail-art striper (NYX Ink Nail Art in Black), I opted for that.
Make sure the pupils are all crazy because Cookie Monster is craaaazzzzyyy for coooooookies!
Step 7: Wait 10-15 minutes & then add a top coat
Step 8: Get caught with your hand in the cookie jar…when your nails are dry, of course!
I hope you enjoyed my Cookie Monster-inspired nail art! And don’t forget to check out this link for another Cookie Monster interpretation. I think hers look more like Cookie Monster.
Did you like my Cookie Monster-inspired nail art? Who’s your favorite Sesame Street character? Mine’s the Count! I should try doing some Count nail art!
This is adorable! I have to try Cookie Monster nails sometime. Thanks for the tutorial. My favorite Sesame Street character is Beaker! 🙂

Hey Katie!
Thanks. 🙂 Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh yeah, I forgot about Beaker…hahaha!
So each time I check out a new post of yours I’m guaranteed three things
A) I look at some super fun nailart and reviews that are always a hit with me
B) I get hungry 😉
C) I read each word because I’m genuinely excited for your posts and love your light and funny way of writing.
I then… Revisit your page because you also take the time to reply to all the comments left

Hey Marta!
Your thoughtful and sweet comment really made my day! 😀 Even though I love to blog because it’s fun and a creative outlet for me, I reallllly enjoy reading encouraging comments like the one you left (and have left on previous posts). 🙂
I want to thank you for motivating me – I thought up a new nail-art design that I’m going to attempt soon. Hope you’ll like it!
P.S. My next nail-art design probably won’t make you hungry. If it does, that’ll be hilarious. You’ll see what I mean when you find out what design I came up with. 😉
So cute! 🙂 I’m trying this after I attempt replicating your comics nails. 😀 The closest I’ve gone to nails with a face are when I use the s10 plate. I haven’t had the guts to do anything freehand yet (it looks so complicated!). I love that blue you chose, btw, and was surprised to see it was a neon!
Hey Carmela!
Thanks so much! And I also want you to know that I appreciate how you’re a regular visitor. You’ve been a great support for me!
Ohh…I’d love to see your comic nails when you do them! I always think they turn out so well.
I understand how freehand nail art looks intimidating. Trust me – I’m no artist…but after a while, you just go with it, experiment, and practice. Even if it’s not perfect, I still think it’s rewarding because you’ll feel good knowing that nobody else has exactly the same manicure. You put your creative touch…your creative signature on it. You should totally try some freehand stuff – you’ll amaze yourself with how good you can be. Sometimes you just have to try to see what you can really do! *Ruffles pom poms* Yes, I’m your cheerleader! 😉
Yes, the Milani polish is a nice, bright blue. It goes on thick, so I liked how you don’t need many coats to achieve opacity. It was actually my very first time trying ANY Milani polishes! 🙂
You’re most welcome! I have you guys on my google reader so I’m always up to date. 🙂 And I do appreciate how you’re one of the few blogs I read regularly who always has at least 1 post a day, so kudos on that! 😀
I’ll try to send a pic once I do the comic nails. I wanted to do a “dry run” of superhero nails so I can sport them next year for the Avengers movie (hahaha, excited much?)! 😀 Speaking of, if I can’t find comics that my hubby will let me tear up, can I actually just print the pics using an inkjet/laser printer and use that for transfer? Or will it not work as well?
Haha, thanks for being my virtual cheerleader! I think I’ll pick up a couple nail art polishes and see what I can come up with. 😉
Yaaay! I’m looking forward to seeing your superhero nails. They sound so fun! Hehe, and that’s cool how you’re planning to wear them for the Avengers movie.
I wasn’t sure if inkjet/laser-printer ink would transfer as well as comic-book ink, so I whipped out my rubbing alcohol right now and tried it with something I printed out earlier. Maybe it’s the particular printer ink I used, but it didn’t transfer as well for me. Then again, I had to test it out over my existing polish that I was wearing, and I had a thick top coat on. That may have affected the results.
You may want to test it out on one of your nails first using freshly-printed images and on a polish without a top coat to see if it works.
Oh my GOSH Mary, more amazing nail art!! I LOVE this! So adorable, and it totally reminds me of my happy Sesame-Street-watching days :).

Hey Ruthe!
Ah yes…those Sesame-Street-watching days were great, weren’t they? Everything was carefree. The world seemed simple. *Sigh*
Glad you liked the nail art even if they don’t resemble Cookie Monster as much as I wanted it to…
