Canada Day Nails: Using OPI Red Shatter, OPI White Shatter, OPI Alpine Snow & Nubar Sensual Red (Review & Swatches)

Canada Day Nail Art Swatches Using OPI Red Shatter & OPI White Shatter PolishToday is Canada Day – our country turns 144 years old! (That’s a lot of candles on the birthday cake!) What better time than to have Canada Day Nails?

Swatch And Learn is proudly a Canadian blog, but we get more visitors from the United States than from Canada interestingly enough!

And we also have many wonderful visitors who reside outside Canada and the United States.

We’re very grateful that you turned to Swatch And Learn for honest reviews, makeup swatches, and funny little anecdotes sprinkled throughout.

So, wherever you are, let’s celebrate the holiday together!

Since red and white are the patriotic colors of Canada, I thought that this was only fitting to finally crack out my bottles of OPI Red Shatter, OPI White Shatter, Nubar Sensual Red, and OPI Alpine Snow.

OPI Red Shatter Review

Red Shatter by OPI is a blood red – very vibrant and a color that I think would look pretty good for Hallowe’en if you’re going as a zombie or murderer and want to have bloody nails.

The formula was smooth and thin, so it was easy to work with, and it cracked pretty easily. To give you a better idea, the formula and color reminded me a lot of a red jelly polish that I previously reviewed – OPI Vodka & Caviar.

To get the crackle effect you see on my thumb, middle, and pinkie fingers, apply a thin coat of polish, and try not to go over the same area more than once or you’ll disturb the crackling.

OPI White Shatter Review

White Shatter by OPI is a milky white that has a runny formula. It’s still a breeze to work with. Again, I think this would be great for Hallowe’en…but if you did a mummy manicure with it.

To get the crackle effect you see on my index and ring finger, apply a thin coat of polish, and try not to go over the same area more than once or you’ll risk ruining the effect.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with OPI White Shatter, but I can’t see myself using this one as much as Red Shatter. That’s why I took one point off the Final Verdict score below.

Nubar Sensual Red Review

Sensual Red by Nubar is a bright-red jelly polish. It’s very similar to OPI Vodka & Caviar, but a touch lighter.

It goes on smoothly, thinly, and evenly after 2 coats. The result is super glossy and very sexy!

OPI Alpine Snow Review

Alpine Snow by OPI is a standard white creme polish that goes on streaky with the first coat. By the second, you can even it out a bit, and if you’re really careful, you can get it completely opaque. (I deducted 1 point off the Final Verdict score because of the streakiness.)

I didn’t spend too much time evening things out because I knew that I’d be slapping the OPI Shatter polishes on top of ’em.

Final Verdict:

  • OPI Red Shatter – 10/10
  • OPI White Shatter – 9/10
  • Nubar Sensual Red – 10/10
  • OPI Alpine Snow – 9/10

Happy Canada Day! 😀

Psst! Is it just me or do my nails look like meat? Haha!

      Hey Ruthe!

Happy Canada Day to you, too! 🙂

Thanks for the compliment! At first I was going to do a Canadian flag-inspired manicure, but changed my mind. Plus I needed an excuse to crack out the shatter polishes. (I still think my nails look like meat though…haha!)
