I love to draw. It’s the one hobby that I’ve had a life-long interest in. I haven’t done it in a while, but I really should pick it up again. It’s very stress-relieving. Back when I was drawing a lot, graphite pencils are some of my fave instruments to use. I just love creating shades and depths with them.

So when I was doing a lil’ shopping and saw L.A. Girl Metal Graphite, I felt obligated to get it. It was calling out to me: “Geeeet meeeee. Get me, Fiona!” And I did. OK, I don’t really hear makeup products talking to me. I swear. Well, not all the time.

Was I glad that the nail polish convinced me to buy it? Yes! I’m usually drawn to charcoal/smoky gray shades, so I knew I would like this color. I just didn’t think I’d find it sexy!

LA Girl Graphite Review

Color

LA Girl Graphite is a dark, mysterious gray, and I love it. The color itself doesn’t quite remind me of the lead of a pencil though as I think this is darker than that. But the metallicky effect of it definitely makes me think of a pencil drawing. It looks like shading you’d do in a sketch because it’s not one solid gray color!

Opacity

This one’s a two-coater. I expect most nail polishes to be opaque in two coats, so L.A. Girl Graphite didn’t disappoint me. It covers completely and you can’t see through to the nail in two medium-thick coats.

Application & Consistency

Smooth as liquid gold…er… liquid graphite? The consistency of LA Girl Metal Graphite is very smooth. A teeny tiny bit on the liquidy side, but it’s nothing that causes any issues. It applies without a hitch and dries evenly as well.

Ingredients

For those of you who appreciate a brand that offers a Big-3 formula, you’d be happy to know that Metal Graphite by LA Girl is free of formaldehyde, DBP and toluene!

    Pros

  • Applies & dries evenly
  • Color looks like pencil shading
  • No formaldehyde, DBP & toluene
  • Good coverage
    Cons

  • Consistency is a little on the thin side, but doesn’t cause issues

Final Verdict: 8.7/10

If you think grays are a bore, then Metal Graphite by L.A. Girl is probably a snorefest for you. But I think grays are awesome – they’re not as harsh as black, yet still give off that cool, sexy vibe. Plus, this shade really does remind me of pencil shading.

For other polishes and makeup I purchased on my Cherry Culture mega haul, please see this post.

Do you love grays, too, or do you yawn when you see that color? Do you own any nail polish that reminds you of your favorite hobby?

As always, this is super pretty on you! I still have yet to try this polish. It’s really interesting that you thought of graphite pencils/drawing when you read this name. I love art too, so your connection between drawing and this polish makes me love it even more, lol!!

I mostly like painting, but sketching is a close second. I like using acrylics and watercolors, but I think I’m going to try oil paints…eventually. Style-wise, I guess I like post-impressionism, probably because I went to an exhibit in San Francisco last winter. What kind of art do you like?

Whoa! Sounds like you’re a true artiste, Ruthe. I’d love to see some of your work!

I only like sketching… since it’s the only thing I’m decent at. Hahah. I like to draw people/animals, but sometimes I do scenery as well. I can’t draw very well from my mind, only when I have a model or a picture in front of me. 🙂
