Argan oil comes from a tree and is rich in Vitamin E, carotenes, essential fatty acids, and other good stuff. It has been touted as being a restorative miracle for hair and skin conditions.
So when I caught wind of the Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo & Conditioner, I was pretty psyched to try them out.
I’ve been testing them out for over 2 weeks now, so I feel confident about sharing my experience with you now.
As you may already know, I have tresses that need to be tamed on a daily basis with a flat iron. And if you’ve followed Swatch And Learn on Twitter, you may have seen my tweet about how my hair is the best indicator for humidity, unfortunately because it gets frizzy.
So did these two Organix Argan oil products perform miracles on my hair? Do they live up to the hype? Find out!

Fragrance
I’m not a fan of the aroma at all. I’ve tried the Organix Soft & Silky Vanilla Silk Shampoo, Conditioner and Silk Serum before and although I wasn’t big on the smell of those, either, at least it was way more subtle.
The Argan Oil Shampoo has a very bold floral fragrance that reminds me of what you’d smell when walking into a salon. Some people love that smell, but unfortunately, I’m not one of them because strong scents tend to give me headaches.
After rinsing it out, the smell doesn’t linger as strongly.
Consistency & Formula
The Organix Argan Oil Shampoo has a very silky, slippery consistency to it, and it’s a pearly bronze color. Lathers very well and creates a lot of bubbles.
The shampoo is paraben-free, so if you’re trying to avoid that ingredient, you’re in luck!
What Does It Do to My Hair?
Every shampoo I’ve ever tried doesn’t make my hair smooth or silky. And this one wasn’t an exception. I always have to follow-up my shampoo with a good conditioner or I’m left with Scarecrow Hair that’s reminiscent of straw.
After I washed my hair with the Organix shampoo, it had that squeaky-clean feel to it. I’m not a fan of that feeling because it often means your hair has been stripped of its natural oils that keep it healthy.
Packaging
The bottle shape is pretty ugly and dated – reminds me of the 1980s. But when it comes to haircare, how pretty the outside looks doesn’t really matter to me. It’s what’s inside that counts. (This warm-fuzzy message was brought to you by Mary! Hehe)
The color of the bottle is a gorgeous blue that’s almost turquoise. It has a hideous gold/bronze flip-open cap to dispense the product.
Yeah, this isn’t packaging that you’ll buy because it looks nice.
But on the upside, according to the back of the bottle, Organix says that their “bottles are eco-friendly, manufactured from materials containing recycled post-consumer resin” and that “all labels are printed utilizing environmental inks and compostable label film made from annually renewable resource corn, not from petrochemicals”! I think that’s awesome!

Fragrance
The Organix Argan Oil Conditioner has the same floral-salon smell as the shampoo except it’s a tad more subtle, but it’s still very noticeable, and I don’t like it.
Thankfully when you rinse it out, the fragrance fades extremely quickly to the point where I can’t really smell it anymore, especially after I’ve dried and styled my hair…unless I literally put my hair to my nostrils and take a deep breath. (Yeah, a lovely sight, I’m sure.)
Consistency & Formula
It’s a lightweight whitish cream that didn’t weigh my hair down. After shampooing, I put this on and let it sit for a few minutes while I washed the rest of my body. When I rinsed it out, it made my hair feel slightly softer and smoother, but the difference wasn’t as dramatic as the one I noticed when using the Organix Soft & Silky Vanilla Silk Shampoo, Conditioner and Silk Serum.
The Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Conditioner is both sulfate-free and paraben-free, so those who are interested in avoiding those ingredients will be happy to hear that.

What Does It Do to My Hair?
After drying and styling my hair, I felt that the Organix Argan Oil Conditioner did make it feel softer and smoother. It didn’t straighten my hair or seal the cuticle, though, because I still had to use my flat iron (as usual) to straighten it to make it sleeker.
Without using this conditioner, my hair would definitely look drier and coarser, so I do think it does work, but as I said before, it’s a slight difference.

Final Verdict: 6/10
Had it not been for the really strong fragrance, I would’ve rated this product better. And if it delivered a knock-out performance by really taming my hair, it would’ve also scored higher.
This is an okay product – not something I’d highly recommend, but not something that I would say is garbage, either. If you have healthier and more manageable hair than I do, this may do wonders for you. Unfortunately, my hair needs serious TLC or it acts like a Troublesome Two-Year-Old.

This a great conditioner (morroccan argan oil) It is very good for naturally curly hair that you want to keep curly. Ironing your hair ruins it!

I used to leave my wavy/curly hair natural, but I don’t like to put a lot of styling products in it and I have to do that with my hair if I don’t want frizzy curly hair. It’s just easier for me to wear it straight and flat iron it daily. Yes, it’s totally bad for my hair, but using a bunch of styling products daily is something I’m willing to avoid.
I’ve been trying out the original Moroccan Oil and will be reviewing that separately. It works waaaay better than this Organix stuff.
I’m not a fan of any of the Organix shampoos or conditioners (though I have never tried the Vanilla Silk one)…they all seem to leave my hair on the dry side and I don’t care for the smell. Both this formula and the Brazilian Keratin Therapy formula made my hair feel dry but somehow look weighed down–definitely not a plus in my universe. One of my friends really likes their products, but I think it’s more because she’s very eco-conscious than because she likes the way they work. IMHO, they aren’t worth the extra money…my old faithful Pantene costs less and does me better.
PS–Try either BIosilk or CHI Silk Infusion…my hair type seems similar to yours (wavy/curly, dry and prone to frizz) and I’ve found that a small amount of either product combed through my damp hair helps with the frizz and makes my hair feel much softer once dry, whether I blow dry it or allow it to air-dry.

I agree with you about the smell. The Moroccan Argan Oil Shampoo and the Conditioner didn’t smell great to me because I don’t like haircare that smells like the salon. The Vanilla Silk line is much better than this one because it’s softer and not so perfumey.
Thanks for the suggestion to try Biosilk or CHI Silk Infusion. I’ve heard so many great things about them! Right now I use MoroccanOil Oil Treatment, and it’s working out so well. Have you tried it? It makes your hair silky, soft, and really manageable.
Honestly, I’ll never use this product again. I tried it and I found it made my hair feel more tangled and damaged. I don’t normally need a lot of conditioner but I had to use a lot of this stuff. After rinsing I just couldn’t stand the texture it left my hair in that I washed my hair again with a different product.

Did you manage to find a better shampoo and conditioner to suit your hair type?

I’ve only ever seen this brand sold at drugstores and grocery stores, so you probably can’t get samples from there, unless they’re running a rare in-store promotion.
I just took a look at http://www.organixhair.com, and if you go to their FAQ, apparently they don’t provide any samples to the general public. But, if bloggers are on the media list, they do provide samples.
I appreciate your commentary however, I must disagree on the smell. I bought this product just because of the smell. I loved it so much that I came online just to find bigger bottles of it. Everyone is different. Again, thanks for the review….very useful.

No problem! Scent is a highly personal thing. What smells bad to one person is absolutely amazing for another, so I completely understand. And it’s a good thing that we’re not all the same. Haha, imagine if everyone liked the same beauty products? It would be really difficult to find anything in stock because all the favourites would be sold out. Hahaha!
