When I rediscovered my tin of LUSH Snow Fairy Solid Perfume, I had to review it even though the last thing I want to think about in the summer is snow.

If you’re a LUSH fan, you’ve no doubt heard all the hype surrounding this scent that’s available only around Christmas. I’ve known some women who buy several backups of the Snow Fairy shower gel so they won’t run out.

As much as I wanted to love this scent and join the cult following, it was a huge let-down, and I’ll tell you why.

LUSH Snow Fairy Solid Perfume Review

With a name like Snow Fairy, you have to expect a super-girly fragrance, but the overpowering sweetness is enough to give you a cavity. And unlike candy that you actually enjoy, the LUSH Snow Fairy Solid Perfume has a nauseating sharpness that’s way too sweet to be smelling constantly throughout the day.

Now, I love sweet scents (I recently raved about the Britney Spears Fantasy Eau de Parfum in a previous post), but Snow Fairy is a thousand times sweeter and has a one-note basic scent. While complex fragrances evolve over time to reveal the top, middle, and base notes, Snow Fairy is a one-hit wonder that doesn’t change the entire time you wear it.

What’s annoying is that even when you slather the stuff on, the scent is so weak that you can expect to touch up every hour.

It’s the most potent when you smell it directly from the tin. My first thought? This smells like jellybeans. And when I asked Fiona to smell it, she said it reminded her of medicine she took when she was a kid! LUSH Snow Fairy has that artificial sugary smell and isn’t sophisticated by any means. I can picture a 12 year old happily wearing it, but someone who’s in her twenties like me might find it too immature.

Although I don’t like wearing it because the scent is too sweet for me, I have to admit that on days when I’m feeling bad, I’ll open up the tin and take one little sniff. That makes me happy. But if I smell it for a long time, it gives me a headache.

Also, because the consistency is like a hard balm, you have to swirl your finger around in the product to warm it up. Then you can dab it anywhere you please. I’m not a huge fan of using beauty products where you have to contaminate them upon each use.

Am I bombing too much? How about the positives? The tin is the perfect size to throw in your purse, and a solid perfume is more convenient to travel with than, say, an eau de parfum…especially if you’re going to the airport. Another nice thing is that since it wears close to the skin, you won’t have to worry about leaving an obnoxious lingering scent in the elevator once you’ve left.

Final Verdict: 4/10

I give LUSH Snow Fairy Solid Perfume kudos for using organic, cruelty-free, and Fair Trade ingredients. But the bottom line is that a fragrance has to smell good and be wearable. I suggest skipping this product unless you enjoy smelling like jellybeans and you don’t mind touching up throughout the day.
