What goes up must come down. What goes on must come off. At the end of the day, one must find a way to remove the war paint – er, I mean makeup – that we spend so much time putting on in the morning. What’s your favorite method?
I’ve tried makeup wipes and makeup remover solutions by various brands; both types left me looking for better methods. The wipes tend to dry out faster than I’m able to get through them, while solutions leave a slippery film on my skin… even if they are oil-free.
So when I came across Neutrogena Eye Make-Up Remover Lotion Hydrating, I had to give it a try. BTW, I think it was very inconsiderate of Neutrogena to make the bottle so shiny and metallicky. It’s pretty, but don’t they know that’s so very hard to photograph?! Haha. I digress…

Neutrogena Eye Makeup Remover Lotion Review
Makeup Removing Abilities
Let’s start off with the most important point about Neutrogena Eye Makeup Remover Lotion. Does it dissolve makeup? My answer is ‘yes.’ It does a good job with taking off liquid liners, pencil liners, powder shadows and cream shadows – no issues there.
It has “removes even waterproof mascara” plastered on the front of the bottle, though it somewhat fails on this point. This Neutrogena Makeup Remover Lotion does take off mascara. You just have to work at it a lot longer. I think it’s a bit too “gentle” for this, so you have to go over your eye a few more times.
Hydration
Even though it whomp-whomps on removing waterproof mascara, I still think this Neutrogena makeup lotion is a decent product. I love the idea behind it – removing makeup while moisturizing skin? Count me in! After I use this (not just on my eyes, but on my face as well), my skin really does feel softer and more nourished.
It may not particularly be the best representative of this double-duty concept, but it’s the best I’ve tried so far (albeit, the only one I’ve tried!). I’ll definitely be on the lookout for other products similar to this, instead of wipes and liquid removers.
How to Use
On the bottle, it says you can use a cotton ball or your fingertips. I’ve tried it with my fingers – kinda awkward. What I do is I dab a very small amount (about the same size as in the picture) on a cotton pad and gently go in circles on my eyes. I find this works best for me.
Do make sure you have your eyes closed though. I’ve gotten this Neutrogena remover in my eyes before. It doesn’t sting for me, but it’s like getting soap in your eyes. Kinda expected though.
Value
You get about half the amount of product as you would from a remover solution. This bothered me a bit, too, especially since the price is higher. However, I’ve noticed that I use a lot less of it in comparison. I usually soak 2 cotton pads with solution to remove makeup. With the Neutrogena remover lotion, I use about 4 little dabs for both my eyes.

Final Verdict: 7.9/10
I had to deduct some points for it not fully living up to its #1 claim. But I really like this remover on days when I’m not wearing waterproof mascara!
Have you tried a remover lotion before? Which brand would you recommend?
Great review!! I’m notorious for not using eye make-up remover. I just use my face cleanser and it does the same thing for me! LOL! I don’t use waterproof mascara so it’s not as bad cleaning it up.

I’m scared using face cleanser will sting my eyes and turn me into one-eyed Fiona! Which facial cleanser do you use?

Lol Fiona, that’s happened to me but nothing a little rinsing can’t fix!
I use Ponds Flawless White facial foam as my face cleanser. I’ve been using it for years and it has done wonders for my skin! Unfortunately, it’s not readily available here, you gotta go to Asian stores and such. I had stocked up when I was in the Pnilippines lol!

Hmmm. I’ve never seen it… I’m going to HK soon; maybe I can find it there!
Right now I use Vichy Purete Thermale Purifying Foaming Cleanser, and I really like it. Maybe I’ll try it on my eyes. I think I can rock an eye-patch like nobody’s business, so I have nothing to lose. 😛
You’re going to HK!!? Luckyyyyyyy! I wish I was going too!
Lol rock that eye patch, girl!
