Confession time: I like hitting the bottle. Often. When I’m stressed out, nothing else quite relaxes me as quickly.

I’m talking about nail polish, of course!

There are some colors that make my heart race. And then there are others I can’t wait to wear. Rimmel Hit That, however, was a polish worth waiting for.

After buying it several years ago, I finally decided to give it a go recently. It was love. It was lust. And hells yeah, I’d hit that again!

There’s something really special about a grayed-out purple. Even though tons of brands have a color like this, I’m still wowed by it every time. It’s easy-to-wear and very flattering. Plus it’s a nice change of pace from my usual green polishes.

But…there’s one thing that really bothers me about Rimmel Hit That. Want to know what it is?

Rimmel Hit That Review

Color

Rimmel Hit That is a grayish-purple chameleon. In some lighting, it looks taupe. Other times it looks like a pale lavender. Just love it when nail polish has multiple personalities.

What makes this interesting is the shimmer – it’s gold and very fine. It’s almost like pixie dust on your nails that puts the magic into the color. This also prevents it from looking flat. As you move your hands, the golden shimmer catches and plays with the light to bring your nails to life.

Application & Finish

Rimmel Hit That applies flawlessly. The brush and the thin nail-polish formula allowed me to apply just the right amount where I needed it. And it dried slightly quicker than a regular polish.

For full opacity, you’ll need to use 2 coats. You’ll also need to use a shiny top coat (like Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat) if you want that glass-like finish. Without the top coat, this polish dries a little shinier than a satin polish.

Ingredients

As you can see from my pictures above, the bottle shape is very different than the new Rimmel London nail polish on the market today. These old bottles were on clearance several years ago. Not sure if nowadays the ingredients are listed on the bottle, but on mine, it was nowhere to be found.

I absolutely hate it when a product doesn’t list the ingredients because it’s like ‘street meat’ – you have no freakin’ idea what the heck is in it. (I deducted 3 points off the Final Verdict score because of this.)

(I’ve noticed that a lot of Rimmel products I have don’t list ingredients. From now on, I’m not going to buy anything from Rimmel anymore unless I see the ingredients on the package.)

Final Verdict: 7/10

This is definitely a pretty color that I plan to wear again. But, yes, it does bother me a lot how the ingredients aren’t listed.
