First thing’s first – Happy St. Patrick’s Day! (Drink responsibly…that is, if you’re old enough to drink, of course.)
Now onto the review! No, not of booze. Cotton candy! Well, a candle.
I’m a sucker for anything that claims to have a cotton-candy scent. It’s probably because it reminds me of my incredible father (who passed away last year).
Whenever we went to the summer carnivals, he’d always buy me cotton candy…even if I wasn’t a kid anymore.
My fingers would get all sticky. My teeth would need a thorough brushing. And cotton candy was my edible happiness.
When I saw the new Slatkin & Co. Cotton Candy Candle from Bath & Body Works in its cute pink packaging, not only did I have to buy it, but I had to buy a back-up, too.
Did I regret that decision? Does it smell like sweet summer sugar?

Slatkin & Co. Cotton Candy Candle Review
First of all, let me say that, to me, real cotton candy has a very faint smell that’s more like sugar than anything else. Artificial cotton candy scents, which I usually love, are amplified in both sweetness and strength.
Fragrance
Two thumbs down (waaay down) on the Slatkin & Co. Cotton Candy Scented Candle from Bath & Body Works! I lit it in my living room for over an hour to give it time for the fragrance to be released, and all I could detect was this odd crayon smell.
According to the bottom of the Bath and Body Works Cotton Candy Candle, this is supposed to smell like spun sugar and vanilla bean with a hint of sweet tangerine.
I do notice a little tangerine, but it’s very light and seems to be an accent rather than the focal point. Also, I think it’s the tangerine mixing with the sugar and vanilla that makes it smell like crayon wax. And when I really sniff carefully, I can smell a mild melon-like sweetness.
When I think of fake cotton candy scents, I think of fragrances like Britney Spears Fantasy (which I love even though I’m ashamed to admit it) – they’re sugary, girly, and comforting.
Sadly, the Bath & Body Works Cotton Candy Scented Candle doesn’t remind me of the wonderful times I spent with my parents at summer carnivals. It reminds me more of a girl who went to the same daycare as me who ate the white school glue. And no, I didn’t like her.
Scent Throw
This scent definitely carries, but it’s not as heavy (or as sweet) as Slatkin & Co. Frosted Cupcake or Homemade Cookies. It’s a lighter and waxier scent with a touch of sweetness.
Burning
The wicks were thinner than some of my other Slatkin & Co. candles. Not sure if this is the reason why the flames died down after just 30 minutes of burning. At one point, the flames got so weak that one wick went out! I had to blow out the other two flames, wait for the candle to cool, and then re-light the wicks. My second attempt allowed me to burn the candle for an hour.
This problem has happened to me before with a different candle, and I found that after using it for a few more days, it ‘fixes’ itself. It was pretty annoying though. But it could just be my cotton candy candle that has this issue.
Also, since one wick went out before two hours of burning, I got some tunneling/canyoning of the wax, which I don’t like. Normally Slatkin & Co. scented candles burn evenly, but this one’s gonna be tricky if I can’t burn it for at least two hours straight at a time.
Packaging
I love the packaging! It’s so adorable. Pink isn’t my favorite color, but for a candle, I think it’s lovely – muted and delicate.
The simple glass and design are sophisticated even though the scent is cotton candy (or at least is supposed to be).
I’m also a fan of the lid because it has a rubbery lining that muffles the fragrance when the candle’s not in use.
Value
When the Bath & Body Works Cotton Candy Candle goes on sale, it’s a steal – usually two 3-wick candles go on sale for $20 USD.
Seasonal Availability
This is a new candle scent that just came out, so I think it should be around for the summer or so. If you like it, get it before it’s gone because there are no guarantees as to how long they’ll carry it.

Final Verdict: 4/10
Although the Bath & Body Works Cotton Candy Candle was by far the one candle that I was most anxious to try out, it was the biggest disappointment ever. So yeah, I definitely regret buying a back-up of this. That being said, I will use it until it’s done because I don’t want it to just collect dust.
This is definitely a pass – leave it in the store.
If you’ve tried this candle, do you (dis)agree with me? Are you a fan of sugary fragrances, or do they make you want to gag?
I bought two of these Cotton Candy candles and I am glad that I did. I have been pretty impressed my with my Cotton Candy candle. Smells exactly like the cotton candy I had growing up and still indulge in once in a while. My candle gave off a great throw within minutes of lighting it.
Perhaps the one you purchased was a dud. That does happen. I say if you can find one. give it another try. 🙂
Hey Karen!
It’s good to hear that you’re liking the Slatkin & Co. Cotton Candy Candle.
Hmm…yeah, maybe mine was a dud. It smelled more like crayons than anything else. I actually bought 2 of the 14.5 oz. candles at the same time, but I only lit the first. When I get through the first, I’ll try the second and hopefully it’s better.
the ones i smelled in the store smelled exactly as you describe, odd waxy crayon. ewww! too bad they couldn’t pull of a real cotton candy smell because that would be delicious!
Hey kelliegonzo!
I know, right? It was such a disappointment! I’m a fan of Slatkin & Co., but this time, they were off the mark. Had it been a true cotton-candy scent, I would’ve stocked up like a fiend!
Oh my gosh! If you still have that back up I’d be more than happy to buy it off of you. I want this candle sooo much.. it’s on my birthday wishlist 🙂 but please seriously! Let me know!
Hey Camille!
Yes, I still have that back-up. Are you sure you want it that badly? It really just smells like a crayon and not like cotton candy.
Maybe you could try checking your Bath & Body Works stores to see if they have any left. Because shipping out this candle would be pretty expensive, and I’d be worried about it getting smashed in transit.
Do you recommend any other candles that smell like Cotton Candy?
Hey JB!
Hmm…good question! After my bad experience with this one, I didn’t try out any other candles claiming to have a cotton-candy scent. If I come across one, I’ll let you know.
If any of my readers can provide any suggestions, please let JB know, too! 🙂
Mary I’m to read this post. I’ve recently become OBSESSED with the Slatkin & Co. candles. I really like cotton candy scents as you do, and as if I’d purchase without smelling it, its still good to hear it smells like a “crayon.” Not something I’d like. xP Just wanted to tell you I’m in LOVE with the Marshmallow Peppermint one. I burned it for 3 days and it’s almost gone. 🙁 So sad but it smells that good that I had it going so long. I hope to buy more. I just wish they weren’t so expensive. I got em 2 for $10 US but still not too cheap. Anyways thanks for your blog posts. Your so helpful!
*That would be “I’m so glad to READ this post”* silly typo! 😛
That’s okay!
Hey Abby!
Hehehe, welcome to the Candle Addict Club! 😉 It’s so easy to become addicted when Slatkin & Co. keep putting out so many winners.
This Cotton Candy candle was a bit let-down. I don’t like the smell of crayons, and the candle just smelled like a big wax crayon to me. Maybe I got a dud…
Wow, I’ve never almost finished a 3-wick Slatkin & Co. candle in less than a week. (I normally buy the large candles instead of the smaller ones.) I think the shortest time was around 2 weeks, but that’s because I don’t burn the candle every day.
You should check out the Yellow Sale at Bath & Body Works right now. Some of their 3-wick, large candles are only $8 USD!
And 2 for $20 USD …gosh! My brains not on!! D:
Hehe, it happens. Most days I don’t have my head on straight. 😉
I tried the cotton candy candle, and I absolutely LOVED it. Apparently I am one of few, because I’ve seen quite a few negative reviews and BBW doesn’t carry it anymore. I just picked up a honeysuckle candle and room fragrance spray and it smells great!
Hey Valarie!
Maybe there are more duds in this scent? Who knows? Mine smelled like a crayon, not the delicious carnival treat. *Sniff sniff* Glad that yours was great, though! 😀
That honeysuckle candle sounds delicious! I’ll have to smell it the next time I hit Bath & Body Works (haha, which will probably be tomorrow).
