Too Faced Retractable Kabuki Brush Review & Pictures

Too Faced Retractable Kabuki BrushWhen I first experimented with mineral makeup, my quest for the perfect kabuki brush began.

I scoured YouTube for reviews and stumbled upon a hilarious beauty guru who described the Too Faced Retractable Kabuki Brush as feeling so soft, it was “like being touched by Jesus”!

I knew I had to have it, and thanks to a very generous friend, I got this as a wonderful surprise for my birthday.

Too Faced Retractable Kabuki Review

Not only does this brush look absolutely gorgeous sitting on top of my dresser, but it really is incredibly soft and fun to use. It boasts what Too Face calls ‘teddy-bear hair’, which is so cute I can’t stand it. I’m also so glad that none of our furry friends were harmed to make this brush. Animals shouldn’t have to suffer for our vanity.

The bristles are brown on the tips, which makes it easier to see how much powder you pick up. And because they’re dense, this brush really buffs the product into your skin for no tell-tale lines or patchiness.

I also appreciated how the bristles are dome-shaped. Why is that a good thing? You can fully customize your coverage from sheer to heavy depending on how many layers you apply.

What makes the Too Faced Retractable Kabuki Brush really special is that it has a sleeve that slides up and down to protect the bristles and keep them in shape and away from dust when you’re not using it. Although I never bring any brush with me when I leave the house, if you’re a traveler, you’ll love this – you could just throw it in your purse and go unlike with typical kabuki brushes that would get bent out of shape if you dared to treat it the same.

Now let’s talk about the packaging. Ah, I’m such a sucker for cute packaging. Don’t judge a book by its cover? Why not? The pink tube is shiny, girly, and fun to look at. Plus there are small flowers sprinkling the top of the cover. I’ve never seen a more beautiful brush than this.

Pros

  • Animal cruelty free
  • Great for travel
  • Keeps brush dust-free
  • Pretty packaging
  • Soft, densely-packed bristles
  • Sturdy design
  • Dome-shaped brush allows for buildable coverage
Cons

  • Relatively expensive

Final Verdict: 9.5/10

This is a great brush for anyone to own – whether you’re a beginner or a pro in the world of makeup. It isn’t the frugal choice, but considering that it’ll last you for years, it helps you apply powders flawlessly, and it looks really good, I think it’s a worthwhile investment.

(Psst! If you have trouble getting your hands on this, check out Sigma Brushes. They sell a retractable kabuki in your choice of black, red, or pink and it looks very similar to the Too Faced one.)

What’s your favorite kabuki brush? Will you try this one? I want to know!
