elf Studio Giddy Gold Blush Swatches & Review

elf Studio Giddy Gold Blush Swatches & ReviewThere are lots of things that make us feel giddy: falling in love, a first kiss, or receiving a box full of nail polish in the mail! 😉

I bought the elf Studio Giddy Gold Blush several months ago when the elf Cosmetics website had a crazy 70% off sale. Now, that, made me giddy!

The elf Giddy Gold Blush is unlike any of the other blushes I’ve ever tried because it’s, well, gold. I usually go for pink, red, or coral blushes.

So what did I think of this? Let me tell you.

elf Shine Eraser Oil Blotting Sheets Review & Pictures

elf Shine Eraser Oil Blotting Sheets Review & PicturesThere are a myriad of things that make some people’s faces greasy or sweaty-looking: humid weather, a good workout, or commitment.

But sometimes an oily T-Zone is just due to the nature of your skin type.

For me, in the morning, my face is usually pretty matte, but then as the day goes on, it gets progressively oilier.

These elf Shine Eraser Oil Blotting Sheets are convenient to carry in your purse in case you need to get rid of a bit of mid-day oilies.

elf Cosmetics Studio Pink Passion Blush Swatches & Review

elf Cosmetics Pink Passion Studio Blush Swatches & ReviewSince I’m going to be talking about the elf Cosmetics Studio Pink Passion Blush, I thought it would be appropriate to take this time to tell you about something embarrassing I did that made me blush. (It may not seem too bad, but at the time, I was mortified!)

I think it was when I was 12 years old or so. My parents and I were in church on Father’s Day.

I misheard the priest and thought he said, “Let’s stand and pray for all the fathers who are here today.” So, I stood up, but my mom remained seated and motioned to me to sit down. Then…I saw that there were only men standing, so I quickly sat down. Apparently only the fathers were supposed to stand.

I could feel my cheeks burning up. (And I tried to pay more attention during future masses. :P)

What’s one of your embarrassing moments? Continue reading

elf Cosmetics Studio High Definition Powder Review & Pictures

elf Cosmetics Studio High Definition Powder Swatches & ReviewSometime last year, elf Cosmetics was having a huge 70% off sitewide sale, and I found it hard to resist ordering a bunch of things.

I was looking for a setting powder that would curb those mid-day oilies. (Sure, I keep blotting paper on hand, but it’s nice to put your makeup on and have it stay matte for longer on its own.)

Since I heard a lot of great things about the elf Cosmetics Studio High Definition Powder, I gave it a go. How did it fare for me? Let me tell you!

(Believe it or not, this is my very first elf Cosmetics review on Swatch And Learn! I was really excited to try out a new-to-me brand. All the previous posts on this brand were done by my former blogging partner, Fiona.) Continue reading

e.l.f. Essentials Red Velvet Review & Swatches

I would like to congratulate elf Cosmetics for turning 7! I love this brand: most of their stuff is awesome, and it all costs so little. Plus, they always have discounts (even up to 70% off), and their customer service is great. This is my honest opinion – Swatch And Learn is not affiliated with elf Cosmetics. Have you tried their stuff?

I would like to congratulate elf Cosmetics on a second thing: They finally got the name of a nail polish correctly! 😛 I have quite a few elf colors, and I keep buying more because they provide such value for $1. The thing that peeves me to no end is that their color names are so misleading. But not e.l.f. Essentials Red Velvet. When I look at this color, I actually do see the inside of a red velvet cake. I can see it layered in between cream-cheese frosting. (I did not eat it; don’t worry.) Continue reading

Nail Art: Red & Silver Swoop Nails & Tutorial

OK. I don’t even know what a swoop looks like. But I’m calling this design that because that’s the first word that came into my head. So… let’s go with it. 😛 I think my head was thinking of the Nike swoosh, but it’s not exactly that, so it came up with swoop. If you can think of a better adjective for the pointy arrow thinga-ma-jig in the middle of the nail, please let me know. LOL

I got elf Red Velvet recently and wanted to test it out, but I was in no mood for an all-red mani. So I decided to throw silver into the mix because I love this awesome neutral color that has some bling to it. Then I thought: “What the heck? Let’s throw some oddly shaped tape on the nail, too, before painting.” Hence, the Red & Silver Swoop Nails. Is it stunning? No. Lol. But it’s a simple look that’s good as a fast and easy mani that’s not boring. Continue reading

Nail Art: Hong Kong Flag Nails & Tutorial

Image of Hong Kong Flag Nails** This post was written by Fiona. She no longer blogs for Swatch And Learn. However, Mary still continues to blog and will be happy to reply to your comment. **

So a couple of days ago, I did a nail design for the Canadian flag. My patriotic love doesn’t end at Canada. I was born in Hong Kong where I studied until grade 2 before my family moved to Canada to avoid 1997. We didn’t know what would happen when Hong Kong was returned to China, so we upped and crossed the ocean with everything we owned. I think moving to another country is the change that has affected me the most in my life. It was hard because the cultures and practices are so different. But since I was young, I was able to adapt more easily than the rest of my family.

I miss Hong Kong, but the one thing I don’t miss is the heat there. I’m sorry to all the summer lovers out there – but I can’t stand the heat (so I got out of the kitchen). The sweat, the stickiness, the stench, the sun in your eyes, the dehydration, the feeling tired, the… you get the idea. It doesn’t help that my car’s A/C died and is spewing hot air. BTW, does anyone else ever wish that you could change your car’s color like you change your nail polish? So many times I’ve wondered what my car would look like with a certain polish on.

WOW. I digress. Sorry! Here is my design for Hong Kong Flag nails. It also looks like a cool floral design, doesn’t it? I really like it (not to pat myself on the back or anything :))!
