Swatch And Learn 2010 Beauty Awards – Best Dressed & Worst Dressed

Welcome to the first ever Swatch And Learn 2010 Beauty Awards! Best Dressed & Worst Dressed is the 1st of 7 award posts.

Hands up if you’ve ever been swayed into purchasing a beauty product because of the packaging. This year, we’ve witnessed many beauty products get by on their good looks and those that fall by the wayside because of packaging that raise the eyebrow (or both eyebrows).

Here are our winners for the Best Dressed & Worst Dressed Awards (their performance was not taken into consideration):

Best Dressed

This award is given to the products that catch our eye and that look good on the vanity.

Fiona’s Winner:

Too Faced Enchanted Glamourland

This palette set is all about glitz and glam. The soft fairytale colors, the sparkles, the butterflies and the pop-ups inside bring out the Pixie Pin-Up in everyone who loves makeup.

Honorable Mention: Urban Decay Book of Shadows III featuring New York City-inspired pop-ups & “UD ♥ NYC” on the cover

Mary’s Winner:

Kat Von D True Love Eyeshadow Palette

Edgy. Gothic. Beautiful. This collection of colors packs a dramatic punch and comes in a package that’s dark and moody. I love how it comes wrapped just like a present, so it scores major points for paying close attention to the small details. Bring on the drama! This palette makes me want to hop on a Harley and flirt with the bad boys!

Worst Dressed

This award is given to the products that might look better covered with a paper bag.

Fiona’s Winner:

NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder

This product’s design (if there is one) is obviously meant for function rather than fashion. It has pans for the wax and powders with a space for brushes. Compact and to the point. But the thick plastic lid looks tacky, and the whole thing just feels cheap and dull.

Mary’s Winner:

Organix Soft & Silky Vanilla Silk Shampoo

The packaging screams the 1980s more than bright over-sized blazers with shoulder pads on The Cosby Show! The gold cap is hideously gaudy, and the words on the front bite the style of Philosophy products. This definitely isn’t a product that I got based on looks!

Honorable Mention: Organix Soft & Silky Vanilla Silk Conditioner (has the same bottle design)

Our 7-part series features other awards, including:
