Slatkin & Co. Frosted Cupcake Candle Review

Normally I head to Bath & Body Works for a Sniff Marathon – i.e. I pick up each candle in the store, lift the lid, and take a whiff to see whether the scent makes me swoon or hurl.

But the Slatkin & Co. candle in Frosted Cupcake must’ve been made in limited quantities since all my Bath & Body Works stores were out of it. Resorted to ordering it online without it passing the sniff test!

Wasn’t sure what to expect. Sometimes you get cloyingly sweet concoctions and other times it’s so faint, you may as well be burning unscented wax!

When my order arrived, I popped off the lid and sniffed it like the candle fiend I have recently become. To my delight, it was very natural-smelling. It didn’t smell sickly fake or too strong. It was delicately sweet and smelled as though my kitchen was full of the yummy treats!

But as candle connoisseurs know, the real test lies when you light it. It only took a few minutes before I could smell the cupcake in the air, and I was in pure heaven!

However, not sure if it was just my candle, but the pool of wax seemed to almost put out the flames. When I first lit the wicks (which seemed to be thicker than other Slatkin & Co. candles I’ve bought before), the flames were a decent size. But in a matter of minutes, they were reduced significantly. When I moved the candle container around, the flames grew bigger again, but in a few seconds, they became small again. Maybe this is a wick defect?

After burning the Bath & Body Works Frosted Cupcake Candle to about the halfway point, only then did the wicks’ performance improve – they maintained a strong and steady flame for hours.

(Update: I finished this candle and then started using my back-up in the same scent. It burned perfectly, so I think the wick issue was an isolated incident after all.)

    Pros

  • Has a true-to-life frosted cupcake scent
  • Scent fills a room without being too strong
  • Wick issue improved as I burned the candle longer
    Cons

  • Hard to find in stores (these candles were made in limited numbers)
  • The wicks of my candle had a weak flame at the beginning

Final Verdict: 9/10

I took a point off perfection for the wick problem. Although overall, I’m very satisfied with the Slatkin & Co. Frosted Cupcake Candle. I could always smell the wonderfully delicious aroma when it was lit, and it’s a smell that I won’t tire of easily.

Because I love this scented candle so much, I’ve already bought several back-ups so I won’t run out of it for a long time!

Have been wanting to try Bath and Body Works candles for awhile although they unfortunately don’t ship to Australia. I’m thinking of buying the scents Gingerbread, Froasted Cupcake, Leaves, Creamy Pumpkin and Tosted Pistatio Delight in the 1.6 oz. Thoughts?

      Hey Sian!

I’ve tried all of those scents except for Toasted Pistachio Delight. For the ones I’ve tried, I highly recommend Frosted Cupcake (it’s my absolute favourite because it’s heavy and yummy-smelling. However, it may be a bit heavy for those hot summer days). I also recommend Leaves because it’s really like fall in a candle. But that scent is also very strong, so it’s not the best to light when the weather is humid and hot.

Gingerbread is a scent that I can see using all year long, and I’ve been lighting it even now when the weather’s milder. Creamy Pumpkin is super sweet and rich, so I think that’s better as a fall/winter scent.

      Hope that helps!
