OPI Unfor-Greta-bly Blue Swatches & Review

OPI Unfor-Greta-bly Blue Swatches & ReviewToday I have another colour from the upcoming OPI Germany Collection that’s due out in August – OPI Unfor-Greta-bly Blue!

It’s been quite some time since I sported a blue on here it seems. About time, right?

This is what I’d describe as a Wonder-Woman-esque blue because it’s packs a powerful punch.

If you collect nail polish and have hundreds of bottles, this colour may not strike you as original. However, it’s still very pretty, and this is a wonderful blue to have if you don’t have something similar already.

Allow me to show you how it looks like in different lighting conditions and tell you more about the formula in detail!

Key Notes

OPI Unfor-Greta-bly Blue Review

Colour

This is a vivid blue that always looks blue and never black…even in dim lighting. I think that’s why I really like Unfor-Greta-bly by OPI. Nothing annoys me more than shades that look near-black. (If I wanted to wear black, I would just wear a bold black instead of one that tippy-toes around it!)

While I’m quite taken with this glowy blue, I can’t say that it’s unique. But…that’s because I’m a polish snob and own hundreds of bottles of lacquer. If you don’t have a colour that’s similar, this is a wonderful one to have.

Finish

Unfor-Greta-bly Blue by OPI has a shimmer finish. When the light hits it, your nails come to life. And even in dim lighting, there’s something magical about the polish.

It does show very minor brushstrokes, so if that bothers you, you may find it annoying. It’s not as prominent as if you wore a metallic polish, but it’s there. You have to look at your nails really close to notice it, so chances are that other people looking at your nails won’t see it…unless they have freakishly good vision. (And in that case, find out what vitamins they’re taking and what food they’re eating!)

Application & Formula

Just like German-icure by OPI, this one also applied beautifully. It was very pigmented even with one coat, but with two, you have perfect opacity. Also, the full effect of the polish is noticeable with two coats. There’s a stunning richness to this blue!

Pros

  • Very pigmented
  • Shimmer catches the light & has a glowing effect
  • Always looks blue & never black
Cons

  • Shows minor brushstrokes
  • Not the most original blue

Final Verdict: 8.5/10

As far as I’m concerned, OPI Unfor-Greta-bly Blue is another winner in the OPI Germany Collection! 🙂 Gorgeous blue with a great formula – that has pleased this nailphile immensely.

Do you prefer glowy blues or creme blues? Would you wear this shade in the summer or reserve it for the fall and winter?

      Hey Brianna!

Glad that you’re loving Zoya Zuza and that you checked it out after seeing my review on it! 😀 Thanks for letting me know. It makes me feel good to know that I could be of some help.

Brianna – Same! I love Zuza! I only wished it lasted longer.

Mary – great post! I’ll definitely buy this when it comes out. Could you compare it to other OPI blues? TY.

        Hey Kindlebot!

        Thank you! 🙂

        To compare:

        – Nicole by OPI It’s Up to You catches the light in a similar way, and the colour looks pretty similar in the bottle. Perhaps It’s Up to You is a touch lighter
        – China Glaze Rodeo Fanatic catches the light in a similar way, but the shimmer in Unfor-Greta-bly Blue is finer. Also, Rodeo Fanatic seems like it has a touch of black and a drop of green.
        – I couldn’t find my bottle of OPI Swimsuit…Nailed It!, but I remember it being a bit brighter but having a similar effect.

I haven’t been compelled to buy any of these Germany colours, nothing just pops. This blue is a beauty, you might have me swayed there!! Did you end up with smurfette nails after removal though? It’s one of my pet hates with these beautifully pigmented blues, they want to hang around long after removal, even with doubled up base coat… Thnks for the swatch!!

      Hey Lauren!

After removing this polish, it didn’t stain my nails at all. However, I used 2 generous coats of Nubar Foundation Base Coat prior to applying this. I always liberally apply base coat when I suspect a polish may stain. I’m not sure if it’ll stain if you use a different base coat, though.

Awww…it’s always my pleasure to share photos with my readers! 🙂 You’re welcome!

        Hi Mary!

Great, well I think it’ll go on the wishlist if there are no Smurfette fingers! I might have to try the Nubar base coat. Speaking of Nubar I have just applied my very first Nubar ever, Indigo Illusion – holy mother! It is so lovely and applied amazingly. Nubar could now be another must have brand for me – yikes 🙂

Just make sure you wear a good amount of a quality base coat. You should be fine!

Oh…nice choice – Indigo Illusion is one of my all-time favourite Nubar polishes! 🙂

I’m so excited for this collection!

I actually don’t wear blue polish, or clothing. I’m very very very particular about shades of blue. They either needed to be blindingly neon, almost green, or super dark. I do kind of like this one though, since it is dark and shimmery. It’s one blue polish that I could see myself wearing, but paired with another color rather than on its own.

      Hey Angie!

Ooohhh…I’m picturing a blindingly neon blue – sounds fun and I’d buy a shade like that! 😀

What other colour would you pair this with?

    Hi Mary,
I love this color. I will be buying this blue. It reminds me of a night blue without looking black. I don’t think I have anything that is similar. Ya me, I will be buying another blue. :~) Awesome job as always. Have a great day. :~)

      Hey Melissa!

Hehehe, you can never have too many blues. 😉 Well, okay, maybe if you had 3589358395835 blues then it would be too much. Hehehe!

SO. MUCH. BLUE. PRETTINESS. 😀 This is on my “want” list from the Germany collection and your swatches just confirmed that! I love glowy blues, and OPI does them well. I would wear this one all year ’round! I have to ask the same question as another comment, though: were there any staining issues upon removal?

      Hey Jessica!

Yes, I second that – OPI does the glowy blues well!

Nope, I was lucky not to have any staining upon removal. I used 2 thick coats of Nubar Foundation Base Coat, though. This is a really good base coat. I very rarely get staining when I use it.

I like this one in that it’s a blue that is deep but not going to look blue/black. However, I don’t think it’s unique in my collection – probably won’t be buying this one – but it is a possible candidate to come home to mama. Have to wait and see how I feel when they come out.

      Hey beachgal!

You know…when I first saw this in person, it reminded me of OPI Swimsuit…Nailed It! because of how it played with the light. I really like blues like this – something so rich when they’re ‘glowy’.

I LOVE blues and this is a colour I may need to pick up, I think I may have something in a similar hue but a bit brighter but I always have room for blues! 🙂

Hehe, glad you like it, too! 🙂 The way you are with blues, it sounds like me and greens. 😉 From one nailphile to another, I completely understand!

how does this compare to the blue from spider man collection? i think i’m going to buy it anyway, just because my name is greta and i have german ancestry! this would go pretty with my absolutley alice on top as an accent finger! (altho removing glitters is a TOTAL pain haha!)

      Hey Greta!

I don’t own that blue from the Spider-Man Collection, so I can’t say with certainly. However, from what I’ve seen in the bottle (in the store) and from online swatches, I think that Unfor-Greta-bly Blue has a touch of aqua, and the one from Spider-Man (Into the Night) is more of a galactic type of blue. Hope that helps!
