OPI This Gown Needs a Crown Swatches & Review

OPI This Gown Needs a Crown Swatches & ReviewOPI This Gown Needs a Crown is from the Miss Universe 2013 Collection, and it features a textured satin finish.

Unlike the OPI Liquid Sand finish, this satin finish is much smoother, although it’s not shiny. I can best describe it as feeling like sea glass (frosted glass).

This satin finish is supposed to be worn as-is, without a top coat, so that’s exactly how I wore it and it’s what you’re seeing in all the photos in this post.

I really love the subtle texture, and even if you aren’t a fan of the trendy gritty textures out there, you may want to try this one because it’s much, mucchhhh smoother.

You also get a cool sparkly crown ‘ring’. It’s a cute little accessory that you’ll find wrapped around the handle of the bottle.

OPI This Gown Needs a Crown Review

Colour

This sparkly silver nail polish reminds me Christmas tinsel because it glitters like crazy and catches the light. It’s what I consider a celebratory lacquer because it just screams “PARTY!”. I can picture myself wanting to pull this out for New Year’s Eve!

Finish

This Gown Needs a Crown by OPI features a new satin texture finish. It’s not glossy or smooth like glass. It’s also not gritty like the OPI Liquid Sands. It’s actually more like frosted glass, so you can consider it the more elegant way to sport the textured trend.

Application & Formula

The formula was a breeze to use. And with 2 coats, I got great pigmentation.

Also, in case you’re curious, the satin finish dries quicker than an average nail polish, so not applying a top coat and enjoying the finish is do-able.

Crown ‘Ring’

This special nail polish comes with a little crown with faux crystals. It’s attached to the bottle’s handle via a clear, stretchy cord, and it can be removed.

I have thin fingers, so it’s too big for me to wear, but even if it fit, I prefer to keep it on the bottle as a little accessory than to wear it.

Pros

  • Sparkly platinum
  • Great formula allows for easy application
  • Dries faster than an average polish
  • Has a satin finish (Can be a Con for some)
  • Feels like frosted glass
  • Comes with a cute crown accessory

Cons

  • Has a satin finish (Can be a Pro for some)

Final Verdict: 9/10

This Gown Needs a Crown by OPI helps you create a luxurious-looking manicure in mere seconds, and the fact that it dries quicker than a regular polish means it’s perfect for those who are pressed for time.

Do you wear silver or gold polishes more often? Does a freebie (like the crown ring) encourage you to buy a nail polish more? Do you know anyone who participated in a beauty pageant?

Oh dang I am super duper impressed with this polish! I really didn’t think I’d like it as much as I did when I saw your swatches!

Personally, I always love silvers. It really compliments my skin tone. So I have quite a bit of it :3

      Hey Donnie!

I’m not even the biggest silver-polish fan, so it also took me off-guard! The finish is so lovely, too!

You know what’s strange? Golds suit my skin tone better, but I also don’t have many of those. Not sure why! Oh, I know – I’m a greeeeen fieeend! 😉 Sometimes I get distracted by greens. Okay, so it’s like 99.9% of the time. 😉 Hehe!

I in loving the textures this fall. And I always love metallics. This is a win win for me. I am going to be watching for this gem to hit the shelves! I thought the crown was attached to the cap at first until you mentioned ring. I love sparkles and this polish is going to be on my digits this winter, no doubt.

      Hey Cindi!

The textures are so interesting, aren’t they? I love how they offer a fresh spin, even for nailphiles who have been watching collections like a hawk for years!

I wonder if anyone will actually wear the ‘ring’. I think it’s better on the bottle as a cute little accessory because the band is just a clear ‘cord’.

Enjoy the polish when you get it! Please stop by again afterwards to let me know how you like it after you’ve worn it. I’m curious to know if you like it as much as I do!

      Hey Charlotte!

Yes, it would be great for celebrating New Year’s Eve! 🙂

Oh yeah – Gwen and OPI sound like an exciting partnership. Can’t wait to see the polishes and hear more information about them!

I have mentioned in the other post, just how much I am now in love with this polish *sigh* Still drooling over this. On normal basis, nope. I would wear them for dinner or some special occasions! And nopes, my drive to buy a polish is solely based on the awesomeness of the colours or how unique I think it is. If I do get an accessory along with it, that’s just icing on cake. 🙂 Out of curiousity, what is the circumference of your index finger (in cm)? No offense meant. It’s because I too have thin nails, it’d be nice if I can sort of use yours as reference? Hope you don’t mind ^^

      Hey Lacqueerisa!

Hehe, I’ve been catching up on replying to blog comments now, so I remember reading your previous comment on that other post! 🙂

Yes, I agree with you about this being more of a special-occasion lacquer. It’s just so fancy. Although you could wear it with jeans, it definitely begs to be worn when you’re all dressed up!

Hmm, I’ve never measured the circumference of my index finger, but I’ll do it now. Okay, at the largest part of my index finger, it is approximately 3.3 or 3.4 cm in diameter. Hope that helps. Hehe, yes, I have very skinny fingers! Size 5 rings are too big for me, and I never see size 4, so on the rare occasion I wear rings, they’re always adjustable.

Oh thank you so much for going the lengths. Whoa yours are thinner than mine! (No offense meant, but I hardly meet people with thinner fingers XD So I’m kinda shocked and amazed, in a good way) Btw, I think mine fits 4½ maybe? But there’s hardly such a size here, so I go with adjustable ones too 🙂 On the bright side, I think your fingers are long and slender 😀

Haha, yeah, I have skinnnnnnny fingers, but that’s because I’m tiny all over in general, so it’s all in proportion. 🙂 Hehe, I hardly meet women who have smaller fingers than me, although when I took piano lessons, one of my classmates had shorter fingers (but not thinner). I remember being amazed that anyone could have smaller hands than me! Haha! (Small hands make it harder to play octaves on the piano.)

Now with the trend of midi rings, I’m starting to become more interested in trying to wear rings. Before, I hardly even wore the adjustable ones because I couldn’t find many that I liked. But, now with midi rings that fit ring sizes around 4, they may work on me! 😉

Thank you very much for complimenting me on my fingers! 😀

    Hey Mary
Can’t wait to see you swatching the last shade of this trio.
I’ve just decided I need both This Gown and I’m feelin’ sashy, for different reasons.
This new finish is quite interesting, I can’t skip this shade, although I’m not used to wear silver polish often (maybe more as an accent in a different shade mani).
I’m just curious about Miss You-niverse, as I prefer dark shades, overall, for fall. I hope to see soon your amazing swatches of this. I hope you’ll feel ever better, in the next days.

      Hey Floria!

I’ll try to post the review on that last shade. I’ve already worn it, and the formula is excellent like the other 2 in this collection. Just need to crop the photos and complete the write-up. 🙂

You’ll really enjoy This Gown Needs a Crown! Even if you don’t do silvers much, this one’s so fresh and the frosted-glass feeling of the satin finish is pretty cool!
