OPI Romantically Involved is from the Fifty Shades of Grey Collection that officially launches in January 2015.
If you live in Toronto and have taken public transit (specifically the TTC aka the Toronto Transit Commission), this shade of red might be very familiar!
While I was riding the newer subway trains, I got a good laugh that will make sense to fellow Toronto nailphiles.
The next time you ride the newer subway trains, check out the red coating on the metal bars. The colour of OPI Romantically Involved is nearly an exact match! (Count on me to notice these kind of things.)
It was far too tempting, so I snapped a quick photo with my phone just to show you. And, yes, some fellow riders were looking at me funny. 😉 It didn’t bother me one bit. (I include the photo of my nails with the TTC bar later in this post.)
Now when I see OPI Romantically Involved, the first thing I think of is “OPI TTC Red”!

OPI Romantically Involved Review
Colour
There was something very familiar about Romantically Involved by OPI, and it wasn’t just because it’s a red. (OPI is known to put out lots of reds because Suzi Weiss-Fischmann has a soft spot for them.)
This red is so similar to the red in the newer TTC subway trains – not the fabric seats, but the red coating on the metal poles! (When I say the newer TTC subway trains, I’m talking about the ones where the train cars are all connected, so you can walk from one end to the other without exiting.)
For those who aren’t familiar with the TTC’s trademark red, it’s not quite as bright as a stop-sign red. It’s slightly more muted, but it’s still lively yet somehow sophisticated.
OPI TTC Red
I’m renaming OPI Romantically Involved to OPI TTC Red. I’m sure that the Toronto Transit Commission will love being part of an unexpected nail-polish collaboration! 😉
When I snapped the photo as the train was moving, I didn’t think to use my phone’s camera flash. It was a spur-of-the-moment type of thing. So, while the photo is blurry and I relied on the artificial lighting, at least you can see that the polish is pretty close to the colour of the red covering on the metal pole! (Obviously, a better photo with brighter lighting would show both the pole and my nails as a shade closer to my natural-light photos.)
Finish
Romantically Involved by OPI has a creme finish, and it glides onto the nail beautifully. It’s smooth, and it’s easy to remove since it doesn’t have any glitter or shimmer.
Application & Formula
I found it very easy to paint with, and it only required two coats to reach full opacity. There was definitely no need for a third coat.
The consistency of the polish wasn’t as thick as a typical creme, but it also wasn’t watery, so it’s easy to use. It’s like a cooperative co-worker, helping you to reach your goal…of achieving a lovely red manicure!

Final Verdict: 7/10
It takes a lot for a red-creme nail polish to knock my socks off and make me tempted to paint my toenails. 😉 Hehe, so while I’m not crazy in love with Romantically Involved by OPI, I appreciate the good formula and the reliable finish. Plus it’s cool that it closely matches the Toronto Transit Commission’s red!
In a nutshell, although I wouldn’t take OPI Romantically Involved out to a romantic dinner, I might treat it to a casual movie. 😉
Are you a fellow Torontonian? Have you ever been to Toronto? Do you ever get a kick out of when your nails match public transportation?
Pretty color.
Hey Robbie!

Hey Ray!
Hehe, I am trying to paint my toenails more since I don’t do it nearly as often as my fingernails! You’re right – this would be a sultry pedicure colour.
I think I like this color more than I thought I would now that I’ve seen swatches of it. It’s gorgeous and perfect for so many different kinds of nail art. Thanks for sharing it with us! 🙂
Hey Melissa!

Hi Mary,
I was born in Toronto and consider it my hometown, although my family moved to Europe when I was four and I’ve never been back since then :(. I hope to come back soon and see, where I’m coming from. I lived near Balmy Beaches and would love to see, where I spent my first years on earth. 🙂
Have a nice day
Akima
Hey Akima!
I hope that you do come back and visit. Since you haven’t been to Toronto in such a long time, everything will seen fresh and new. There’s so much life in this city, and I love living here! 🙂
This is such a great color on you!

Hey Jessica!
Thank you! 🙂 I don’t wear red as often as other colours, but sometimes I’ll get in the mood to wear a nice red. This one will be seeing the light of day again, I’m sure! 😉
