OPI On Her Majesty’s Secret Service Swatches & Review

OPI-On-Her-Majestys-Secret-Service-Swatches-ReviewOPI On Her Majesty’s Secret Service from the Skyfall Collection is a much more complex colour than I originally thought.

(It stumped my camera. Seems like I have difficulty capturing fine metallic flecks. Any camera-setting tips you’d like to share with me are greatly appreciated.)

At first glance, it looks like any other pewter polish, but upon closer inspection, there’s a variety of different colours. (Geez, I wish that I was able to capture it clearly so you could see its brilliance. It’s a very interesting polish up close.)

OPI On Her Majesty’s Secret Service Review

Colour

OPI advertised On Her Majesty’s Secret Service by OPI as being a misty-green pewter. While I definitely see the pewter, I can’t see any green. If anything, the pewter has more of a cool-blue tone.

Pewter isn’t the only colour you see. I noticed gold, silver, and even a pinkish purple! That last hue was really unexpected, but it added a fun and unique touch to a polish that would otherwise look ordinary.

(Even if you have no desire to buy this polish based on my poor photos of it, I urge you to hit up a store to just look at it in person. It might change your mind when you can see the different colours in better detail.)

Finish

This fine glitter polish has what looks like metallic flecks, and they lie flat, so your manicure is really smooth. Also worth noting is that it’s fairly easy to remove.

Application & Formula

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service by OPI applies very easily and smoothly. It flows onto the nail with little effort, and because it’s on the thin side, even if you use many coats, it won’t feel thick on your nails.

Also, because this polish is thin, you should wait longer before slapping on a fast-drying top coat, or you may get premature tip wear like I did.

I used 3 coats. With just 2 coats, there was pretty good coverage, but to even everything out, I found I needed that last coat.

Pros

  • Unique combination of colours
  • Applies smoothly & easily
Cons

  • Thin formula can be prone to premature tip wear if you apply a fast-drying top coat too soon

Final Verdict: 7.5/10

OPI On Her Majesty’s Secret Service has colourful metallic flecks that add a lot of visual interest. It’s like a nice surprise for just your eyes. (People who see your manicure from farther away will think it’s just a cool-toned blue-pewter.)

Did you watch Skyfall? Have you bought any of the shades in the OPI Skyfall Collection? Do you have any camera-setting tips and tricks that help produce sharper photographs of polishes like this?

I have this polish in the tinsy winsy small bottles. (you the 4-pack with small opi:s) I haven’t really looked at it too much but it looks nice though. I think mine actually leans towards some greenish color but that’s only in the bottle and I have yet not tried it on my nails.

A blogger (http://lelack.blogspot.se/) that I like (she write in swedish though) has captured some great close-up shots of it:

      Hey Gelic’ nail art!

Really? I didn’t think they had this one in the mini set. I have the mini set, and it doesn’t have this shade in it!

Hmm…even mine in the bottle looked more silver and blue! Wish it was more green!

Thanks for the link – I’ll check it out!

      Hey Perly!

In person, it’s even more interesting to look at. (Hehe, I almost wanted to use a magnifying glass to inspect it further. It’s really beautiful!)

I bought several polishes from the Skyfall collection (Casino Royale, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Goldeneye, Live and Let Die, The Living Daylights and The World is Not Enough) and this one was a surprise favorite for me (The Living Daylights being my biggest downer)! I almost didn’t even buy it but, geez, it is so stunning when you wear it that I can’t believe I almost didn’t get it. The movie is pretty awesome too. Definitely my favorite Bond movie.

      Hey Camille!

Wow, you got a lot of great shades from the collection! 🙂 My favourite is still GoldenEye – it’s pure magic.

I still haven’t seen Skyfall yet. Haha, I need to see Wreck-It Ralph first, then Skyfall, and then The Life of Pi.

Oh you really must see it! Wreck it Ralph is on our list to see over (U.S.) Thanksgiving next weekend with our son. I’m really interested in seeing Life of Pi. I loved the book so I’m curious to see how they did the movie…

I haven’t read The Life of Pi, but I definitely still want to see the movie. Maybe I’ll read the book before going to see the film, but most likely it’ll be the reverse order.

      Hey Viktorija!

Let me know how you like it after you’ve worn it. I’m curious! 🙂 And if you photograph it for your blog, please share any tips you have on getting clear images. I had trouble capturing this polish’s beauty!

      Hey Lizzy!

And if you look at other bloggers’ photos of it, it’s even better! My photos are pretty terrible. Sadly, I did this polish a huge disservice!

      Hey Charlotte!

Some people said that they could see some green. I totally couldn’t, and I looked at it so long and hard…haha! I wanted to ‘will’ it into existence, but my bottle just didn’t have any green. If you get it, yours might have a tinge of green…

It’s too bad I couldn’t change the polish. Hehe, imagine if we all had that kind of power? The poor polish companies would be out of business! But…I wonder what kind of insanely fabulous creations we could come up with if there were no boundaries.

This is one of the colours that caught my eye. It was so pretty in the store and all the swatches online were great. I didn’t buy it because I’m on a budget.

Hi. Just wondering how you think this one compares to Zoya FeiFei. I’ve read some posts that say it’s pretty much a dupe on the nails (but not in the bottle). I even bought a back-up of FeiFei, so as pretty as this one looks, so I need it? Thanks!

      Hey jess!

They’re extremely similar in terms of colour and finish. Even the intensity of the glitter is very similar, so since you already have Zoya Fei Fei, I don’t think you need OPI On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Unless you prefer the wider OPI brush, then that’d be the only reason to get the OPI.

Hope that helps you save some money! 🙂

Where are you buying OPI for under $6 in Toronto?! (I’m assuming you live in Toronto) I’m stumped, that’s a steal!

      Hey Jackie!

There are sometimes great deals on eBay! You have to be really fast to catch them! But I also have some personal connections.
