OPI Keeping Suzi at Bay Swatches & Review

OPI Keeping Suzi at Bay Swatches & ReviewOPI Keeping Suzi at Bay is a shiny, sexy nail polish from the upcoming OPI San Francisco Collection due out in August.

Maybe I have an affinity for the Cookie Monster, but when I’m wearing blues like this, I’m over the moon, past the Milky Way, and light years from Earth.

I wore this for several days, and if I weren’t a beauty blogger, I most likely would’ve kept this manicure on until it chipped so badly, I’d be forced to remove it. So, yeah, I think I like it just a little bit. 😉

P.S. As a little heads up – This week, I’ll be sharing reviews on a bunch of polishes from the OPI San Francisco Collection, so keep your eyes peeled like a banana for those.

Key Notes

OPI Keeping Suzi at Bay Review

Colour

Keeping Suzi at Bay by OPI is a medium, primary blue that reminded me a bit like a darker version of Essie Mesmerize,

I just loved how creamy the polish looked. Even though it doesn’t have the bells and whistles of a glitter indie polish, it’s this simplicity that allows the beautiful colour to shine through. (If you want to give it more glitz, it’s so easy to slap on a glitter polish on top. No sweat!)

The first time you wear this, though, I recommend wearing it by itself – there’s just something about the clean formula that really accents your nails and makes them look so put-together. It’s also dramatic, and I feel like it really helps to define your nail shape.

Finish

The creme finish is smooth and streak-free. With just 2 coats, I was able to get full coverage.

Application & Formula

Applying Keeping Suzi at Bay by OPI was hassle-free. It’s the way nail polish should be – easy and enjoyable! I didn’t have to pay much attention during application in order to get the results I was pleased with. For this reason, I think that if you don’t already have a beautiful blue creme, this one is a must to try!

Removal

Whenever I wear blue nail polish, I’m always wary of having Smurf Fingers (i.e. being left with blue residue on my cuticles).

After I took off Keep Suzi at Bay, I did get some blue lingering, however, the vast majority of it came off when I scrubbed my hands a few times with soap and warm water.

It didn’t seem to tint my nails blue, either, just for the record. Then again, I wore a base coat. Results can obviously vary from person to person.

Pros

  • Medium blue that’s easy to work with
  • Smooth formula
  • Shiny
Cons

  • Can leave behind a little blue (but scrubbing your hands with soap and water helps a lot)

Final Verdict: 10/10

While some people may not go gaga over a blue creme (because there are lots of great ones on the market), I still gave this a perfect score because the colour and the formula was perfect.

Sure, it’s not the most original nail-polish shade, but I don’t feel like it should lose points for that. Not everyone is crazy like me with hundreds of bottles of nail polish. Maybe some nailphiles-in-the-making are just starting their collection. 😉 And I feel like this one is worth owning!

And, I think it should speak volumes that even though I do have tons of nail polishes, even I wanted to wear this baby forever!

Do you have a favourite blue creme lacquer? Which of the other OPI San Francisco Collection polishes are you most anxious to see me review? When you want to wear a simple, but dramatic nail polish, what do you reach for?

Excuse me while I pick my chin up off the floor! I LOVE this colour – you’re completely right, it’s so striking and clean by itself there’s no real need to jazz it up. Beautiful swatches.

      Hey Barbara!

I’ll definitely review that one. Haven’t worn it yet, but I will try my hardest to do so before the San Francisco Collection launches. Stay tuned!

Pretty blue. It’s not really navy though and not really crayon blue either. It’s like if they got married this is what you’d get.

It wont be my first choice, my first choice would be car pool, cause I don’t own a shade like this yet,
sauselito would be the second, even I have my doubts it can be too similar with chine glaze calypso blue ( which I own )

Hehe, okay, so I wasn’t the only one who thought that. Good! Sometimes I think about cookie and the Cookie Monster too much. 😉

That’s a really pretty blue! Seeing as I started my nail polish collection over this year, there are quite a few basic colors I don’t have. I’m most looking forward to your reviews on all the reds from this collection. Even though I will wear almost any color nail polish, red is always my favorite.

      Hey Tanya!

So far, I’ve worn one of the reds from this collection, but I haven’t cropped the photos yet. Since you’re interested in it, I’ll have to put it higher up on my schedule to get it out sooner. 🙂

Do you have a favourite red nail polish? I really love OPI Vodka & Caviar. It’s a red jelly, and the formula is perfect – so glossy!

I don’t have a specific favorite red yet, but searching for one is half the fun. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll look into it. 🙂

If you like jelly finishes, that really is a must-have. It’s the kind where you can see your own reflection in your nails! Haha, creepy, but also pretty cool!

Such a pretty blue, these swatches are pulling me in!! I’m going to have to be strong, since I own OPI Dating A Royal and OPI Eurso Euro which could be dupes to this polish? What is your opinion on this matter? You insight would be greatly appreciated!

      Hey Neelie!

Although I don’t have it, from what I’ve seen online, I think OPI Eurso Euro is darker than this. Dating a Royal is probably closer, but again, I don’t have that, so I can’t accurately compare.

Nice one! It reminds me of Suzi says feng shui, just darker! I’m already on a countdown to the outcoming of this collection: i’m expecting, above all, to see you swatch Peace & Love & Opi, Incognito, In the cable car pool lane, Haven’t the Foggiest, Lost on Lombard.
My beloved blue creme is “Chanel Blue Rebel” (deep greyish blue- Collection “Les Jeans” – March 2012). Nowadays, my favourite simple’n’dramatic color is “Dim Sum Plum”: i like this shade and its single coat covering power!
Thanks mary, for this precious (p)review!
