OPI I Knead Sour-Dough Swatches & Review

OPI I Knead Sour-Dough Swatches & ReviewWell, it looks like I’m on the homestretch when it comes to reviewing the nail polishes in the OPI San Francisco Collection! After this post on OPI I Knead Sour-Dough, I have just have 3 more to go.

Actually, I’ve already worn them all, but it’s now just a matter of cropping and uploading photos and preparing posts. 🙂 I’ll try to have them up ASAP. Really want to show you prior to the official August 7 release!

OPI I Knead Sour-Dough is like no other polish that I own. Okay, so I don’t have too many neutrals in my collection, but even so, I haven’t seen too many that look like this.

Claim: TRUSTED

  • Toasty warm brown (Yes)

Key Notes

OPI I Knead Sour-Dough Review

Colour

The reddish-brown base reminds me a little of the soil on Prince Edward Island. I went there once with my parents when I was younger, and it was a lot of fun. We went to Lobster on the Wharf, checked out the Anne of Green Gables store (Yes, I’m a fan of Anne Shirley! It’s where my love of redheads began.), and we walked all around Charlottetown. Good memories!

I Knead Sour-Dough by OPI is way more interesting than a typical brown polish (which, by the way, doesn’t usually excite me). It’s the slight reddish shimmer that spices it up and transforms the lacquer into something truly unique.

Finish

I Knead Sour-Dough by OPI has a shimmer finish, so when the light hits it and you move your fingers, it looks really pretty. You see the shimmer more prominently on the middle of the nail.

Application & Formula

The formula is wonderful, and it goes on very creamy. With just 2 coats, you can fully cover the nail without any visible nail lines. The formula is easy to control, but, haha, if you rush like I did, you may not get stellar results. Nevertheless, a manicure doesn’t have to be flawless for you to enjoy it. 🙂 Remember, happiness is more important than perfection!

(Yes, I keep repeating my personal mantra in hopes that you will believe it as much as I do. With so many pressures that people face, I think we need to cut ourselves some slack for the smaller things in life.)

Pros

  • Unique brown with reddish shimmer
  • Catches the light
  • 2 coats to achieve full opacity
  • Great formula
Cons

  • Hmm…I’m not sure what to put here! 🙂 Guess that’s a good sign!

Final Verdict: 8/10

Normally I don’t go crazy over brown nail polishes, but there’s something so different about OPI I Knead Sour-Dough! I really enjoyed wearing this polish, and I appreciated the twist in the form of unexpected shimmer.

When the weather takes a dip in the fall, I’m sure I’ll love this polish even more because it definitely has a toasty, autumnal personality.

Do you mainly wear brown polish in the fall? What’s your most-used brown nail polish? Out of all the San Francisco Collection shades I’ve shown so far, which are on your to-buy list?

      Hey Erin!

You’ll love it – it’s such a different type of brown. And I think in the fall, we’ll all love it even more. 🙂

Ok, I kind of love this. Like you, I’m not normally drawn to browns, so this will be unique to my collection. Finally something a bit different from the San Francisco collection! And I liked your little tribute to PEI, since that’s where I grew! 🙂

      Hey Jess!

How awesome that you grew up in Prince Edward Island! 🙂 When I was there, I remember feeling so relaxed.

How old were you when you moved away? Do you ever go back to visit?

Wow! pretty! I love when OPI does this type of shimmer. Is is sacrilege to say it looks like Chanel Paparrazi? The last OPI I recall that was similar is one of my favorites- I’m Fondue of You. I will have to check this out. thanks for all the swatches of the San Francisco collection you have done so far!

      Hey Lorraine!

Oh yeah? I never saw Chanel Paparrazi, so I have no idea how similar it is. Since I like the OPI, though, I may have to look into the Chanel.

You’re very welcome – glad that you’re enjoying the San Francisco Collection swatches! 🙂 I’ve enjoyed wearing all the shades.

I had the same feeling when I saw the swatches, but I think Paparazzi is more brownish and the shimmer is more hidden. They are both gorgeous fall colors! (and I want them both :D)

      Hey Kas!

Give it time. Maybe it’ll grow on you later. If not, at least you’ll save some money and put it toward polishes you know you’ll love.

Well it’s been too long since I’ve visited your wonderful blog / journey … Did you miss me? 😛
I’ve had a few stresses in my life which resulted in me biting my nails that I worked so hard to look after 🙁
I haven’t painted in a while either! due to pressing work commitments …. but I must say when I read your personal mantra, it made me rethink and reasses what’s important in life so thank you for your thought provoking words Mary.
I hope all is well in your world 🙂

So sorry to hear that you’re really stressed out now. I hope that the pressure dissipates and that you’ll have time to relax and smile.

I love this! I think I have an Essie that’s fairly similar to this, although the shimmer particles on this one are definitely finer, and it’s lighter. It’s really pretty! If it weren’t for the exorbitant price on OPI here, I’d probably buy this anyway despite having something similar.

Oddly, I’m not one for browns, and I’m not really one for pinks, but I can totally wear pink-browns. I wonder why?

My favorite brown polish is OPI Suzi Says Da. It’s the perfect vampy, dark brown cream but it’s not so dark that it can be mistaken for black. Having said that, I DO LOVE THE SHIMMERS, definitely have my eye on this gorgeous new shade as well as Dining Al Frisco. Can’t wait until August 7 and thanks so much for swatching this collection in so much detail before the release date!

So I made a mad dash to the Ulta store at lunchtime and picked up Alcatraz Rocks and Incognito in Saulsalito and while I was there, I eyeballed this one. I agree; I’ve never seen a color like this one before and since I plan on another Ulta run tomorrow I think I will be getting this one, too. It’s almost a duochrome sort of a golden orange-red-brown and it’s quite beautiful. I’d also say there’s almost a gold shimmer effect, too. It’s very unusual and very pretty.

      Hey Kellly!

Hehe, I love all the action in your comment. I have a mental picture of you dashing to Ulta and then running there again. Phew, it’s exhausting being a nailphile, isn’t it? Hehehe! 😉

Seriously, though, great choices! I know you will absolutely LOVE Alcatraz…Rocks! It’s the star of the entire collection. Glad that you’re taking a chance with something unusual and getting I Knead Sour-Dough, too! *Thumbs up*

      Hey Katie!

I live in Canada. The label at the bottom of the bottle isn’t what you’ll see on the ones in stores. I just show it because of the serial number. My label is different from retail versions because this bottle was provided to me by OPI’s PR firm.
