Nail polish and I are BFFs. So when a lacquer told me the other day that it wanted to spend some time apart and see what it was like to be on someone else’s nails, needless to say, I felt a little hurt.
But, since I’m not one to restrain the freedom of another, I let OPI Give Me Space from the Starlight Collection wander off and explore new territory. This was not before I prepared it a hearty breakfast and packed it an extra sweater (in case it got chilly) and a new bottle of top coat (in case the journey was long).
A few days later, to my great joy, I looked up and saw it skipping happily towards me! It came back, kissed my nails, and told me that there’s no place like Helmer home!
After hugging it long and hard, I promised it a special feature on the blog, so here is my detailed review of OPI Give Me Space! 😉

OPI Give Me Space Review
Colour
Give Me Space by OPI is a medium, rich, sapphire blue at the heart. It very much resembles a night sky, and it’s the kind of blue that won’t get mistaken for appearing black (even in dim light).
I find these kind of blues to be very flattering on a wide range of skin tones, as it’s a saturated jewel tone.
Finish
Just as the stars light up the sky at night, the sparkle in this polish liven up the blue. Coupled with a splash of holographic glitter, Give Me Space by OPI has a vibrant personality that becomes apparent when you move your fingers and glitter reflects the light.
Even though there’s glitter, the finish is smooth, even before you apply a glossy top coat. No scratchy nails with this one!
There seems to be a slight creme-jelly quality about this because the glitter peeks through the blue base. Rather than looking flat with the glitter sitting on top, there’s so much dimension with this nail polish that adds to its beauty.
Application & Formula
The formula of this was excellent, as each coat seemed to apply itself! I was so happy to see how smooth it was, and I only needed to use two easy coats to get full coverage and the intensity you see in my photos.
OPI Give Me Space vs. Essie Starry Starry Night
Both are gorgeous blue sparkly nail polishes that I recommend, however, they are very different and not dupes.
OPI Essie Starry Starry night has silver glitter, and each piece of glitter is larger. On the other hand, OPI Give Me Space has delicate glitter and more of it. Plus the OPI has holographic sparkle that’s not present in the Essie.
(If you want to compare them for yourself, you may find my previous in-depth review of Essie Starry Starry Night helpful. Click the link to read my thoughts about it and to see lots of swatches. Note: I reviewed the relaunched version, not the original one from the 1990s.)

Final Verdict: 10/10
OPI Give Me Space is a stunning nail polish that I wanted to wear back-to-back. (If I wasn’t a nail blogger with so many untried polishes, I would keep wearing this one until I got sick of it!)
Especially if you’re a blue nail-polish lover, you’ll be thrilled to have this one in your collection. And if you like sparkly, saturated nails, this one’s a wonderful one to wear!
Do you prefer OPI Give Me Space or Essie Starry Starry Night? What was the first nail polish you wore in January? Have you made any New Year’s resolutions?
It’s a beauty indeed!
Hey Sara!
This saturated blue is one of my favourites, and the sparkle kicks it up a notch!
I’m with you on this one. A perfect 10 out of 10! I love this color and I’ve worn it a few times already. Every time I wear it I get compliments. I like it so much that when I saw it on clearance at my local Sally’s ($3.65 v. $8.99) I HAD to buy another bottle. I foresee this color getting alot of nail time. 🙂
Hey Melissa!
I couldn’t think of any valid reason to deduct points from the Final Verdict. It was a pleasure to paint with and wear, and the colour made my heart race. It deserves a 10!
P.S. Wise decision to get a back-up of it. Haha, looks like Give Me Space won’t actually be getting any space from nail-polish lovers like us! 😉
🙂
Hi Mary! I’m so happy to see you gave this polish a 10 out of 10 — that’s the rating I would give it, too! I like it SO much better than Essie’s “Starry Starry Night” (which I don’t have). I just enjoy the brighter blue shade and OPI’s formula and brush (though I do have plenty of Essies in my collection). It looks great on you, too!
Hey Cat!
You know what? I don’t even know if I could choose between OPI Give Me Space and Essie Starry Starry Night. They’re both gorgeous in my book, and they both made my nails smile. 😉
P.S. Thanks for stopping by my blog and also my Instagram! I love it when readers visit here and then also check out my social media. Really appreciate the support and interaction!
Wow, Mary you gave this scattered holo 10-10-1 amazing. i need to get this one if you think it’s that great. looks gorgeous on your amazing nails. I do have many Essie’s in my collection but always favor my OPI’s. Love the close up photos of your review. Beautiful job.
Hey George!
Yes, it blew me away. (Hehe, or should I say that it ‘blue’ me away!) 😉
You will love OPI Give Me Space – it’s so lively, and the holographic glitter isn’t ‘too much.’ (I have no problem with ‘over-the-top’ polishes, but this is a great one for those who maybe want something sparkly without being too blingy. It can appeal to more people, I think.)
Photographing this blue was a pleasure! So happy to hear that you enjoyed my photos! 😀 Thanks for looking (and for all your support on Facebook)!
I am sooooo getting this ASAP…..Great review and perfect rating. It has 2 of my very favorite polish traits: blue and sparkly. (“Traits”or lack of a better term, I’m totally not with the program today)
Hey Stephanie!
You will absolutely adore it! If you snap a photo of your manicure, feel free to tag me and show me! 🙂
Blue is my favorite nail color and I have to have this now after your review, even though my nails will never look as good as yours!
Hey Barbara!
Aww, shucks! You’re the sweetest. Do you know that? Thanks for putting a spring in my manicure! 😉
P.S. I’m sure that your nails are gorgeous! Feel free to tag me, if you wear and share your manicure with this polish. I’d love to see!
That polish is so beautiful! I was almost going to order it when I thought, Wait a second… I think that looks a lot like Zoya’s Dream, which I already own. So I think I’ll pump the brakes and go without, but man, your photos are so good it’s still calling to me! Help! lol (Thanks for bringing up the Essie Starry Night polish, as I think they’re close, but OPI’s is prettier.)
Hey Mary!
It’s similar to Zoya Dream – you’re right! I think that Give Me Space is a bit more muted in the sparkly department, though. Both are pretty! Good eye for spotting the similarity. 🙂
