OPI DS Indulgence Swatches & Review

OPI DS Indulgence Swatches & ReviewHere’s the second new OPI Designer Series nail polish added to the line – OPI DS Indulgence!

From the promo pictures and the official description, I was expecting this one to be more purple or pink. It actually leans strongly on the red side.

What a beautiful polish – it sparkles like crazy in the sunlight, and because of this, it really lives up to its name. It definitely is a polish that is indulgent!

And I think this would be great to wear for Christmas…Hehe, hey, Christmas in July?

Allow me to tell you more about OPI DS Indulgence!

OPI DS Indulgence Review

Colour

This is a ruby-red polish that has a bit of gold throughout. It’s the kind of colour that looks like sizzling fire in the sunlight – very sexy shade!

The press release for this new OPI Designer Series polish said that it was a red-violet, but I don’t really see any violet, and I wore this polish for several days, so I saw it under many lighting conditions.

And in case you’re wondering, while it’s similar to OPI DS Luxurious, Indulgence is definitely much redder than Luxurious.

Finish

OPI DS Indulgence has what look like small golden flecks. These flecks catch the light and make the shimmer dance on your nails like hyper glitter that needs to bust a move. 😉

The finish is very smooth – not gritty at all! Plus it’s very easy to remove.

Application & Formula

Applying OPI DS Indulgence is very easy because it glides on effortless and even has a self-levelling formula that helps to make your manicure look good (even if you’ve applied it not as carefully as you should’ve).

The polish is also very pigmented. One coat covers very well, but you’ll get complete opacity after a second coat.

Pros

  • Beautiful red with goldflecks
  • Perfect formula
  • Looks glittery, but isn’t gritty
  • Easy to remove
  • Requires just 2 coats for full opacity
Cons

  • Costs significantly more than a regular OPI nail polish

Final Verdict: 8/10

While OPI DS Indulgence is really a stunning polish, I didn’t give it a perfect score because there are lots of shimmery reds with gold on the market. Especially if you wait for Christmas, I’m sure you’ll be able to find something similar.

If I had to choose between OPI DS Indulgence or OPI DS Luxurious, I would go for the latter because the orange with gold seems more special to me.

Were you also surprised to see that OPI DS Indulgence wasn’t a purple as the press release suggested? Do you like DS Indulgence or DS Luxurious better?

Thanks for both DS posts Mary, I really wanted to see swatches of them!
I wish OPI did the great holos again, I don’t find these DS worth the different price. Maybe it’s because I never wear red or oranges, but even if they have nice finishes, I don’t see anything special to pay more for them…
I would gladly pay more for a good OPI linear holo!!! Maybe now that Color Club and China Glaze are having holographic collection, OPI make something like that again! A girl can dream 😉

      Hey mara!

You’re very welcome! Wearing these polishes was fun, and I kept looking at my nails like I was so vain. 😛

Yeah, if OPI put out linear holos, I think they’d sell out like hotcakes. That’d make a killing and laugh all the way to the bank, that’s for certain.

      Hey Marta!

YAY! 🙂 Although your nails are always absolutely perfect. Hehe, and I LOVE your owl necklace in the post. It’s big, and it looks like it would be fun to wear. I need to go to Forever 21 – I’m sure that I’ve seen a similar necklace there. Aside from polish, owls are my weakness!

I’m a little disappointed that this didn’t look more purple.. That would have been ridiculously awesome! Now I’m on the fence. I was so sure I wanted it (even just for the name!) but I have so many other reds in my collection.. It sure is still pretty though!

Oh, quick question. Does it have that same gold flecked look that It’s My Year has? The bottle seems to look like it, but the nail swatches don’t really show much of the gold..? It just looks more foil-y, at least from what my monitor shows me.

      Hey Carmela!

Even though you’re disappointed, one good thing may have come from it – you may be saving money! 🙂 There’s always that silver lining, right?

The press release definitely made me expect a violet. When I opened the package with the two OPI Designer Series polishes, at first, I thought they made a mistake and sent me two of the same polishes until I double-checked the label. And then, of course, when I looked at them closer, I realized that they were actually different colours.

The gold shows up more in the bottle than on the nail for sure. I’d say that on the nail, it’s predominantly red. Yes, I’d say the ‘flecked’ look is similar. The gold blends in a lot more than being in stark contrast. Sometimes you can see it, but just at a glance, you may not notice it.

    Hi Mary,

I was wondering if you could explain what ‘half trusted’ means?
Also, I’m looking for a sparkle/shiny color in the red family, and I really like this. Which would you say is better overall, this one, or ‘I’m not really a waitress’? If your opinion, of course. Thanks. =)

      Hey Terrianne!

What I meant by that in the claims is that only half of the claims are true, and therefore trusted. But the other half were busted, and therefore not trusted. Sorry about the confusion. I didn’t want to say Trusted or Busted since it wasn’t 100% either way. Does it make more sense now to you?

I don’t own OPI I’m Not Really a Waitress, but based on what I’ve seen in online swatches, I can definitely say that if you’re looking for sparkles and something that really pops, OPI DS Indulgence has more of that oomph to it. It’s a real looker! However, it’s also more expensive than OPI I’m Not Really a Waitress. The latter has more of shimmer, it seems. Very different finishes. Out of the two, in my opinion, I must rather like the way OPI DS Indulgence looks compared to I’m Not Really a Waitress.

      Hey Terrianne!

You’re very welcome! 🙂 Glad I could help.

But…if you’re looking to buy just one OPI DS polish, out of all the ones I’ve tried, I actually highly recommend OPI DS Extravagance – it’s AMAZING! Smooth, perfect formula. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love it.
