OPI Dining Al Frisco Swatches & Review

OPI Dining Al Frisco Swatches & ReviewOPI Dining Al Frisco is an icy blue nail polish from the OPI San Francisco Collection that’ll be dropping in August.

I can picture this being a great base for wintry nail art, maybe with some penguins? 😉

Even though the San Francisco Collection is coming to stores in August, it’s actually a fall/winter collection, so it’s right on point.

Something about this polish reminded me of slick car paint, even though I can’t think of when I’ve ever seen a vehicle in this colour.

My dad would’ve loved this shade. Haha, no, not because he wore nail polish (although he used to let me paint his toenails for fun once). Blue was his favourite colour in general, and the lighter blues in particular. So when I wore this, I thought about my father.

OPI Dining Al Frisco Review

Colour

Dining Al Frisco by OPI is a periwinkle type of blue that looks fresh and icy. It makes me think of a cold winter breeze that’s sneaky and somehow finds its way up your coat while you’re waiting for the bus. Brr!

Even though this polish isn’t anything really crazy, because I don’t have many polishes like this, it stands out in my collection.

Finish

Maybe it’s the finish that gives it that retro vibe. You see, it’s a little frosty, so some visible brushstrokes are noticeable.

There’s also some shimmer running throughout the polish, so on a sunny day, your manicure has a bit of a twinkle. It’s this finish that keeps the polish from looking flat.

Application & Formula

You may have noticed that on my ring finger and thumb, there was a little ‘bump’ on both nails. That wasn’t the result of the formula. I accidentally got something on my brush. When I noticed it, I just kept painting, thinking that I could cover it with another coat, but they still showed. Oops!

Yup, I wore this manicure just like that. It didn’t really bother me because, as you know, I don’t strive for perfection. As long as a manicure bring me happiness, that’s good enough for me. 🙂 And I was pretty happy wearing OPI Dining Al Frisco.

The formula is smooth, and it glides on easily. Since the brushstrokes show, I suggest that you work a little slower than usual. That way, you can at least keep the brushstrokes straight, which makes them less noticeable.

Pros

  • Pretty light periwinkle blue
  • Smooth, great formula
  • Has a retro feel
Cons

  • Shows brushstrokes

Final Verdict: 7/10

Dining Al Frisco by OPI is a pretty nail polish, but I don’t think it’s the star of the San Francisco Collection. Still, because it has a wonderful formula that doesn’t pose any major problems, it’s worth checking out.

When winter rolls by, I have a feeling that I’ll be pulling this out a lot because it has that icy-blue look that would be perfect for snowy nail art.

What’s your favourite season? Isn’t it funny how it’s not even summer yet and we’re looking at fall/winter polishes? 🙂

      Hey Randi!

Interesting observation. I may have a bottle of that around here somewhere…Not sure! If I have it, I should do a comparison post.

I’m kind of torn on this one. I was really excited about this one in the preview photos because I love that shade of blue and it looked kinda shimmery. I still love the shade, but the frosty, brushstroke-y finish is a disappointment.

      Hey Jess!

It’s shimmery, but I would describe it more as frosty just because I could see the brushstrokes. Well, the one good thing about your disappointment is that you can save your money for other polishes that call out to you louder. “Jess! JESSSSSSS!” Hahaha!

      Hey Christina!

Light blues are really pretty, aren’t they? Glad that you like this one. I know sometimes visible brushstrokes are a deal breaker for some, though.

While this is really not my type of polish, I just wanted to comment and say how much I enjoy reading your blog. Your kindness and sense of humor really shine through, and you seem like the kind of person I’d want to be friends with in “real life” (whatever that means). I will look you up if I ever come to Canada, ha ha!

Just got this one today and couldn’t wait to wear it. I love this shade of blue and the blue microshimmer that’s in it. I didn’t have a problem with visible brushstrokes and thought it went on my nails rather nicely. I also got the Muir Muir one and will probably end up buying a couple more from this collection as well. 🙂 I appreciate how thorough you reviews are and enjoy reading them.

      Hey Christel!

Glad to hear that the brushstrokes weren’t an issue for you. It could be that I tend to use medium coats. I’ve heard that with these types of polishes, it’s best to use thinner coats.

Yay! I’m so happy that you’re finding my reviews useful! 🙂
