NYX Eyeshadow Swatches, Review & Pictures – NYX Mermaid Green, Hunter Green, Ocean & Kiwi

NYX Eyeshadows

Greens really add oomph to brown eyes and make them pop! I have more greens in my eye-shadow stash than any other color.

Today I’ll be treating you to NYX Eyeshadow. I’ll be reviewing these delicious greens: Mermaid Green, Hunter Green, and Kiwi. And since I have Ocean lying around, I added it just for the hell of it. Why not, right?

I’m ecstatic to review these because I’m a huge NYX cosmetics fan – this company puts out a lot of affordable makeup options that are right up there in quality when compared to higher-end brands. And the NYX Eye Shadows are no exception.

NYX Eyeshadow Review

I always check the ingredients first because I’m allergic to bismuth oxychloride – a common ingredient in lots of eye shadows. If I wear an eye shadow that has it, my eyelids become dry, scaly, and red. That ain’t sexy! Plus I sulk around with a frown on my face, which also doesn’t make me a runner-up for Miss Universe.

The day I found out exactly what was causing my allergic reaction was the day when I discovered a whole  new world filled with pretty eye shadows. And the NYX Eyeshadow was among them. Oh, there were trumpets playing and David Beckham look-a-likes fanning me and feeding me grapes! Okay, maybe not…but it was a good day.

These shadows don’t contain bismuth oxychloride, they’re silky smooth, easy-to-blend, highly pigmented, and so affordable that I literally want to buy every single color! And if you frequent other beauty blogs like I do, you’ll know that NYX has quite a few MAC eye-shadow dupes. (By the way, MAC eye shadows have bismuth oxychloride. Boo!)

  • Kiwi – A light, shimmery yellowish green that reminds me of the spring & of Kermit the Frog
  • Mermaid Green – A shimmery medium gray-green with a hint of blue
  • Hunter Green – A deep mossy forest green with shimmer
  • Ocean – A shimmery blue with some silver that definitely makes me think of the water

When worn alone, these are absolutely gorgeous. But if you have the money to invest in a quality eye-shadow primer (like the Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion (Eden) that I reviewed in a previous post), you’ll be blown away by how rich, velvety, and long-lasting they are.

Pros

  • Inexpensive
  • Animal-cruelty free
  • Same quality as higher-end brands
  • Hypoallergenic (No bismuth oxychloride)
  • Available in tons of colors & finishes
  • Highly pigmented
  • Velvety smooth
  • Nice clean packaging
Cons

  • Can be tricky to find in Canadian stores if you’re not close to a Rexall or Pharma Plus & don’t like buying online
  • NYX sometimes reformulates their eye shadows & the colors may change

Final Verdict: 10/10

The NYX Single Eye Shadows are heavenly. If you’re a frugal beautista, you’ll love how you can get the quality you deserve without paying dearly through the nose. And they come in so many different colors (from pinks to golds) and a variety of finishes (from mattes to frosts), so even the seasoned eye-shadow connoisseur will find that special shade.
